Can you ever wear boots to a wedding?

I have bought a beautiful dress from Maje for a wedding.

uk.maje.com/en/ready-to-wear/collection/dresses/120roman/MFPRO01274.html?dwvar_MFPRO01274_color=P003

I’ve tried it on with the usual strappy sandals and because of the pattern and the swingy skirt and the sleeves the sandals just don’t look quite right.

I was wondering if I could ever team this dress with boots for a wedding. The wedding won’t be super formal I would say just normal levels of formality. I also don’t know what the weather will be like and I think a lot of it will take place outside.

I’m thinking of teaming it with these

uk.maje.com/en/shoes/collection/booties-and-boots/221forchains/MFACH00411.html?dwvar_MFACH00411_color=2517

I’ve bought these items and I think they look great together but am I just fooling myself that this is wedding attire?

@UnreasonablyPissedOff if budget allows, something by Aspinal of London.

It also depends on what colour footwear OP chooses, as that would potentially change things...

I’d probably go for the midi Mayfair in evergreen (which would tie in beautifully with the dress but maybe too well IYKWIM), or maybe in tea rose (but I’ve just seen that sadly that’s sold out, and it may not be quite the right colour anyway, haven’t looked closely), otherwise the Lottie in soft taupe.

OP i'd go for the Whistles boots in Plum (I have them and ADORE them, they are such amazing quality and softest leather I've ever felt. I am tempted by the green ones this year) I think the boots suit the dress perfectly, like a modern version of an illustration of an ice-skater on a lake in the best possible way!

Gorgeous green bag @Ninkanink!

You absolutely can! I wore black ankle boots to my brothers wedding as on the day, it turned out I couldn't walk in my new heels 😂

StellaLeonte · 04/06/2021 16:30

@Beachlovingirl

Actually, actually I really really like these

www.whistles.com/product/cornel-suede-point-pump-29611.html#cgid=Heels_Shoes_WW&is=false&sz=60&start=0&isSecondPage=false&pid=cornel-suede-point-pump-29611&pos=5

And I can get wear out of them afterwards? Sorry I know I keep going on about that but it’s important to me Smile

They’re gorgeous!

Dress is beautiful and you could wear with the boots. Just perhaps not to a wedding.

Boood · 04/06/2021 16:48

The wedge sandals posted upthread would be perfect with that dress. I can’t quite picture anything that would go less well than the first pair of boots, sorry. They’re totally unsuitable for a wedding, much less a summer wedding, and they don’t work with the dress at all.

spotcheck · 04/06/2021 16:53

Dear god I love shopping threads.

As you were

crankyhousewife · 04/06/2021 16:54

Of course you can wear boots to a wedding. I got married wearing boots and have also worn boots to a couple of weddings. Wear what you want.

Lulu1919 · 04/06/2021 17:36

How about a wedge shoe/ sandal

Beachlovingirl · 04/06/2021 17:42

@greenalltheway I like those chicme ones though I don’t know if I would be able to wear them for the full day Smile

@Ninkanink oh wow. Love those. All of them! If I went for the nude bag does that mean it would go with the whistles boots or the whistles court shoes?

I’d wear it with the plum boots.👍

Ninkanink · 04/06/2021 17:53

(The taupe bag, that is. But it would also work with the court shoes.)

allofthecheese · 04/06/2021 17:53

The dress is really nice. Definitely no boots. I'd wear a nude block heeled sandals. Nude goes with everything so would be able to wear those again. You could wear the dress again too with the boots generally, just not to a wedding I think.

Ninkanink · 04/06/2021 17:53

The micro Lottie is on sale at the moment!👍👍

Londonmummy66 · 04/06/2021 18:17

I'd have a look at this website as they have a lot of lovely flats in good colour combinations (a pair of lilac and green loafers jumped out at me). They would work with your dress and be useful with jeans etc as well.

Patapouf · 04/06/2021 18:23

Love the boots and the dress is pretty but they do not work together at all. They are definitely not wedding shoes Shock

When is the wedding? Will sandals work weather wise?

Ghostlyglow · 04/06/2021 19:53

Why can't boots be worn to a wedding?

Unescorted · 04/06/2021 19:55

I wore boots to my wedding...

MadKittenWoman · 04/06/2021 21:00

No to boots. Cream or green wedges or block-heeled sandals, caged or otherwise.

Vodkaandballoon · 04/06/2021 21:13

If that's your style then go for it. To many people look uncomfortable at weddings because they are wearing something completely out if their comfort zone. If you were my friend I would want you to wear something you feel comfortable in. There is no rule book saying women must wear nude pumps to a wedding.

dudsville · 04/06/2021 21:19

Your dress is fab. I actually like the boots you originally chose, but I'm late to come in on that. It's a very sweet dress. Pairing it with equally sweet shoes can be a little much.

Beachlovingirl · 04/06/2021 21:49

@Ninkanink I have the bag in my basket ready to go! I am just hesitating go do the final click!

@Vodkaandballoon yes it is my style. When I bought the outfit I was sure but I tried it on recently and was less sure.

@dudsville it is exactly this! The dress is indeed very sweet and when I’ve tried it on with a good selection of nude sandals/occasionwear shoes the whole look is just too sweet and not my style.

I am between the plum boots/black boots (only thing putting me off plum is that is summer!) and the suede court shoes that look sexy and sharp but wearing them for all day is not making me look forward to that!

If it helps they are great quality and really beautiful IRL.

Ninkanink · 04/06/2021 21:53

Why not go for the black boots then? They’ll be more versatile, and as you said, there’s black in the dress so it’ll tie in nicely. I agree, plum is quite autumn/winter.
