I'm so heavy

withmycoffee · 13/04/2021 19:57

I am 5'3" and a small UK 12. So I'm a little chunky for my height but not anything excessive. I wear mediums In most brands. Being shorter ideally I would be a uk 8 and wear xs but I'm in my 50s and look ok. I work out and have significant muscle but.... I am 80kg. EIGHTY. How am I so heavy?

@samthebordercollie

You are definitely toned but there is a lot of extra flesh there too. Yes, you look your weight.
Oh ok. I'm just surprised that I'm 80kg at size 12 s/m clothing. It seems that everyone else on the thread who is that sort of size is at least 15 kg lighter I'm also surprised that at size 6/8 I was 50kg but at size 12 I'm 80!!!!

I also don't think I look obese which at 80kg I should be 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't feel overly comfortable commenting on actual photos because I don't know if this is really a picture of the OP. It could be anyone.

I agree with other posters that, having seen the photos, yes, the person in the photos looks like they have the height and weight stats given in the OP. There is clearly some muscle there and a fair bit of body fat.

Clothing sizes mean very little. I am 5'8, quite muscular and weigh around 56kg. I have clothes in every size from XXS to M, and from 6 to 10.

Cam2020 · 14/04/2021 11:12

You look pretty muscular to me, OP and like you have a small but strong physique. You certainly don't look obese, you look really good! Body shape and type is everything in determining whether someone is large!

fellrunner85 · 14/04/2021 11:17

This is difficult for everyone, OP, because you clearly don't think you're overweight or obese.

80kg is around 12 and a half stone, right? Yes, you do look that weight, at 5ft 3.

Oh no, if you read my OP I make it perfectly clear that I know I am carry some excess body fat. Absolutely. But no way did I think I would be OBESEI say very openly that at my height, I should be more like a size 8 not a 12 but I am just shocked to find that I weigh 80kg!

That's because you, like many people, have a distorted idea of what obesity really looks like.

Yes clothing sizes mean nothing. To me you look like at least a size 16 but I suppose a 12 these days could stretch to that. If you are happy with how you look OP that's all that matters. I used to be fit, muscly and on the chunky side but prefer being fit, muscly and slim.

@samthebordercollie I'd like to shed the winter layer of body fat for sure. I always gain over winter. I'm in my 50s. I'm past being weirded out by seasonal fluctuations. This post has gone down some peculiar tangent of what I want to look like. That's not the point of the post. The point was just that at the size I am I am surprised to find that I weigh 80kg. It seems most people are equally surprised. Some are not surprised at all.

Christ these comments Hmm

You look strong OP and no, I certainly wouldn’t look at you flexing muscles and think ‘what in the name of obesity is this’ but any post involving weight and confidence will immediately get shat on in this place, unfortunately.

'What in the name of obesity is this' 🤣🤣🤣 I'm definitely using that sometime. And yes, comments do always go weird. It's the same with the 'how old do I look' posts where people will suggest a clearly 40 something looks 70 🤣. Fortunately I am made of tougher stuff than to be derailed by obviously obtuse remarks. My post is genuinely just me going 'holy cow, I'm 80kg. Does that shock you as much as it shocks me?' If people want to be weirded out by that, they can knock themselves out 🤣

OMG are you sure your scales are right? I'm 5 foot 6 and a 'normal' size 12 and I'm only 68kg! Can't be right surely?

SnowAllSpring · 14/04/2021 11:38

Literally no one has said anything other than to say that, having seen your photos, yes, you do look like that height and weight.

If you want to read something into it that isn't there, that's your prerogative, but any 'weirdness' is coming from you. No one else.

No, there is nothing shocking in hearing that the person in those photographs has a BMI of 31 and weighs 80kg at 5'3. As I and several other posters have said. We're not being 'obtuse' just because we don't agree with you.

ClumsyPickle · 14/04/2021 11:39

As this post shows 'size' and weight rarely neatly correlate. Since I've started weight training I've dropped a dress size but my weight has stayed pretty much the same; I'm also very 'dense' 😂

Ok calm down Petal. There is lots of conflicting opinions. You seem very determined to push yours.

This. Exactly this.

The person in these photographs looks just like I would imagine a person with a BMI of 31 to look. Talk of dress sizes is a bit of a red herring as, as we all know, that varies from shop to shop and from style to style.

JustSleepAlready · 14/04/2021 11:43

Muscle. Muscle is heavy. That’s why trying to loose weight by working out people don’t understand why their not loosing weight when what they’re actually doing is building muscle.

In your own words on a very recent thread

* If someone is average height then at size 14 they have an unhealthy excess of body fat. We have got used to seeing it so think it's normal. It's not*

Yep and I believe that. And as I've said, at size 12 I am carrying excess body fat. No one is questioning that. Especially not me. Why anyone thinks I am thinking that I am in peak form eludes me. My question was not about whether I am in good shape or not. My comment is simply that at 5'3" size 12 and WITH THE EXTRA BODY FAT that I possess (have I made that clear enough now), I am surprised that I weigh 80kg. Some people agree. Others don't. One person thinks I look a size 16 minimum and are therefore morbidly obese. That's all fine I'm happy with whatever people think. I am just putting my comment out there! Because that's what forums are for 🤣

You state that someone at average height and size 14 would have an “unhealthy” level of excess fat.

So at leas than average height and supposedly a size 12, you have an “unhealthy” level of fat, which will go a long way to explains the weight (along with fact, I don’t see size 12 as being accurate)

waterlego · 14/04/2021 12:00

OP, you look bloody fantastic. 💚

starbrightstarlight8888 · 14/04/2021 12:00

Wow! I'm 5ft 4 in a size 12 and weigh 69kg. I'm a powerlifter so have loads of muscle. I have the same bra size as you. That's bizarre.

Feelingpoorlysick · 14/04/2021 12:01

@SnowAllSpring

Why are people telling you it's fine? Your BMI is 32. Not just overweight but obese. That's not ok for your health.
Because BMI is a ridiculous outdated way of measuring someone's health

Yes. I agree. I have too much body fat. Not questioning this. Questioning how I am 80 kg when as others have said, their not slim 5'11" husband weighs 80kg .... someone is 5'7" and a size 16 and they weight 70 something kg... etc. It leaves me pondering, when I drop my winter layer and get back to a size 10 which I am generally throughout the warner months, how heavy will I be. I don't own scales so I've never checked. At my age, I prefer being a size 10 than an 8 as my face looks better even though my body looks best at 8. Figure or face.
