I'm so heavy

I am 5'3" and a small UK 12. So I'm a little chunky for my height but not anything excessive. I wear mediums In most brands. Being shorter ideally I would be a uk 8 and wear xs but I'm in my 50s and look ok. I work out and have significant muscle but.... I am 80kg. EIGHTY. How am I so heavy?

I'm 5'7 and a size 16 and weigh over 100kg. I had a full body composition done and I have over 50kg of muscle lol. Maybe look into one of those

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 13/04/2021 21:32

Is that 13 stone?

withmycoffee · 13/04/2021 21:43

@BJHair

Also where are you buying your clothes from So many shops do bloody vanity sizing it’s difficult to judge what’s the correct size any more If you work out a lot so do you wear a lot of sports / Lycra stuff which is much more forgiving in terms of sizes
H&M, hush, All Saints, Zara. Just regular places

At 5ft 3 and 80k means your 12 stone 7 I think your scales have eaten to much crap 😂 are you weighing them on a flat surface like a wood floor and not on carpet as I know that if I put my scales on anything like carpet it can be half a stone different I’m 5ft 6 and have recently lost some weight I was 80k back in Feb and I’m now 73k and aiming for 70k by May I can’t see how your not overweight unless your built like one of those Russian Olympic Shotputters but even they look overweight to me
Hospital scales. Giant big thing. Not floor scales that move around.

Ok so what I am getting is that it is weird and I'm not crazy for being bemused at my weight. I've anyways weighed heavy for my size but 80kg got me very puzzled.

If your bra size is 32 and your waist is 30 then I think your scales must be wrong or you forgot you were carrying a bag of bricks when you weighed yourself op!

It sounds like you don't have anything to worry about but I agree it's a bit strange.

theteachesofpeaches · 13/04/2021 21:48

You sound like a similar size to me, but I'm nearly 20kg lighter.

I think either the scales were wrong

Or you were wearing a big thick sweater, jeans with a big leather belt, steel toe capped boots, a winter coat, had wet hair, had just drunk 10 pints and was very constipated Grin

user1471554720 · 13/04/2021 21:49

I am 69kg 5 ft 3 and 49 years old. 36gg breasts, broad shoulders. I used to take size 14 m&s. I take 12 now with vanity sizing. Medium in most clothes. I run 20 mins most days and walk for half an hour i.e 11k steps most days. I eat all normal meals, very little sweets and no takeaways. Drink a bottle of wine a week. Some people who exercise will be naturally heavy.

@withmycoffee

Hospital scales. I'd like to think they are accurate. I don't even own scales that's why I didn't know I was so heavy until now. I do lift weights so I have well developed and dense muscle mass but 80kg????? Definitely an average size Medium. Small in some knitwear tops. Some 12s are snug on the bottom due to having a bit of a thick menopausal waist but generally a medium/uk12
Ah that explains it. Hospital or GP scales can often be really inaccurate esp if mechanical as they often don’t get calibrated enough. If possible buy a pair of cheap salter scales and doublecheck
OverByYer · 13/04/2021 22:02

I’m similar OP
I’m 5’5”
Currently weigh around 11’4”
I’m a size 12 in most shops, in M&S sometimes a 10!
32e bra size.
I have very muscly thighs and buttocks. I run 3 times a week and yoga twice a week.
Most people are shocked when I tell them how heavy I am

randomsabreuse · 13/04/2021 22:07

I have a small frame (wrist measurement), 5'6 and am 82kg when a supermarket/M&S 12 (waist is too big).

I'm a 28K bust and carry a lot on my thighs and calves.

Assume you were clothed on hospital scales, which does add a bit.

PolarnOPirate · 13/04/2021 22:12

@MabelPines

I think your scales may be off OP !

I was weighed about 6 weeks ago at GP surgery - I am 5”6 and weigh 76kg and I am a size 20.

I’m 5ft5, size 16 and 101 kilos. Yep!
InglouriousBasterd · 13/04/2021 22:14

Oh I had this! When I was working out heavily and muscular I was a size 8-10, 5’9, 84kg was my absolute peak fitness weight. I was weighed in hospital pre op and the nurse thought the scales were broken! But I’m just....dense, I suppose. I was a size 4 and gaunt at 70kg, supposedly perfect BMI.

Just to add, they changed scales to double check and I was weighed a week later at the doctors. The weight was definitely right!
Miseryl · 13/04/2021 22:21

How strange! I'm 5'5", weigh 10st 11lbs or 68.6kg and on a good day I'm a size 12 and on a bad day I'm a 14.

ChronicallyCurious · 13/04/2021 22:34

Just goes to show how everyone carries weight differently! I’m 5ft 9, 11 st 10 and a size 8/10. My friend is exactly the same height and a few pounds less as me but is a completely different body shape and is a size 12

waterlego · 13/04/2021 22:37

Heavy bones make a huge difference. I suspect I have these also because I sink in water, even the sea.

Me too! Well specifically my lower body; my upper body is reasonably buoyant but my legs cannot float 😂

I’m another one for whom ‘healthy’ BMI doesn’t necessarily reflect good health. At one point some years back, my BMI was in the middle/low segment of my ‘optimum’ range. I looked bony and gaunt and friends and family kept asking me to put on weight. I’m now right at the top end of my healthy range and look good on it, if I say so myself. I exercise around 10 hours a week teaching fitness classes (resistance/HIIT/Combat/yoga) and have a low body fat %. When participants and clients tell me they want to lose weight, the single most important thing that I want them to understand is that the actual weight of your body is of little consequence unless you are a boxer or a jockey. What DOES matter to your health is the amount of fat you are carrying, especially visceral fat, and of course your heart and lung health.

ichifanny · 13/04/2021 23:00

I’m about 75kg 5ft 5 and wear a size 10-12 some people just are heavier , people never believe my weight when i tell them .

iamaclumsytwat · 13/04/2021 23:41

Yep I agree with PPs. I am 73kg (about 11 and half stone) and I am a size 10/12. Very strange how we all differ? 🤷‍♀️ I try not to weigh myself for this very reason as it's quite depressing. I run 3 times a week so I'm quite fit, yet I still weigh too much for my height. I'd 100% say yours is muscle rather than fat which isn't a bad thing! Stay off the hospital scales!!!

iamaclumsytwat · 13/04/2021 23:43

@waterlego you are totally right by the way! As I've just said - stay off the scales!

OverByYer · 14/04/2021 06:30

This has been a really interesting thread as I find weighing myself depressing as am so heavy despite being slim and fit . From now on I won’t bother!

I have found my people!! So muscles can weight a LOT then? I know I weigh heavy and I have been lifting heavier weights for the past few years but I had no idea they could add 10kg +++!!

samthebordercollie · 14/04/2021 06:39

Maybe the scales are wrong? Or you at least have a big skeleton. I'm a size 10 at 5'8 and 59kg, muscle is 47kg with 16% body fat (I'm a serious runner) according to scales.
I'm not skinny, but small boned, not much in the way of boobs or bum more straight up and down.
We are all different!

devildeepbluesea · 14/04/2021 06:39

I can believe this. I'm the same height, lots of muscle mass, dense bones etc. And am also 80kg, bust 34g. No doubt I need to lose a bit but at 62kg I was a size 6-8. Currently 12-14 with probably less muscle than you.
