Could it be the Aldi skincare?!

I'm 39 and feel like my face has aged so much in the last year... After a brief spell of looking OK last spring/summer (which I put down to upping my game with my skin routine, thanks to some lovely products in the M&S summer beauty bag), it all went to shit last autumn when these monstrous bags appeared under my eyes which just wouldn't go away. I got worried that I'd somehow ruined my face with too much REN glow tonic or something. I tried drinking more water (and less wine, thanks to dry January), sleeping more etc but nothing seemed to work. I honestly looked like I'd aged 10 years.

Anyway, when my posher skin stuff ran out I went back to good old Nivea and it looked even worse. So, the other day, I bought some of the Aldi Lacura Q10 serum and rejuvelate day cream and, I swear, the bags have shrunk back to early 2020 size and my skin has got this lovely glow. This happened the day after I used the products for the first time...!

I don't know what else it could have been - I've got a really stressful week happening, I've got a cold, I'm not sleeping well, dry January DEFINITELY finished for me on Jan 30th etc... Could it really have been the creams that have had this effect, this quickly?

@Catwoman123

Ok so review time..I woke up this morning and the puffiness is definitely reduced! I still have dark areas under my eyes but at this point I don't think ill ever shift them. I'm going to keep using this and see how I get on. Thank you op! I'm happy I purchased this. Its done more for me than my £20 pot of kiehls under eye cream.
Is that the one in the blue pot?
Redburnett · 12/03/2021 08:39

I usually use the Aldi anti-wrinkle serum and find it excellent. As an experiment I once bought 3 tubes of the Boots one that is said to be scientifically proven to reduce wrinkles, and used that for a month. It was definitely not as good on my skin as the Aldi one.

TeaAddict235 · 12/03/2021 09:23

Agree with @ThisIsClare , can someone post a picture of the product please?

FreshFaceTime · 12/03/2021 09:35

There are multiple Q10 products (serum, day cream, night cream, etc) and I'm still a bit confused about which one this is Grin

ShiningGonnaShine · 12/03/2021 09:37

This is the stuff (I went and bought some more yesterday Grin)

Could it be the Aldi skincare?!

Honestly, it's more likely a change in hormones or a placebo effect, or the fact that the kids have gone back to school and spring has sprung. Aldi make some reasonable skin products but none of them are miraculous, and none of them will make a significant difference to eye bags.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 12/03/2021 09:43

I've been using Aldi Q 10 day cream for years now, I have a pot of the night one (bought when I wasn't paying attention) I put it on by mistake once it a while, just feels a bit heavier, but no harm.
All lovelt stuff.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/03/2021 09:43

I use the Q10 daydream (cube box, basic white pot), and I use the Caviar Night Cream (cube box, blue pot with silver lid).

Both excellent!

ShiningGonnaShine · 12/03/2021 09:51

@TheYearOfSmallThings - you might very well be right... This is why I posted the thread because it seemed a bit unlikely. But, as I've said before, there aren't any other reasons that seem to add up as to why I noticed such a difference in my eye bags... In fact, the opposite should be true - I haven't slept well, I've been ill, I've had a stressful couple of weeks, I've drunk some wine (and probs not enough water), I haven't been outside much etc. Who knows 🤷‍♀️.

I genuinely think there is a strong placebo effect with new skincare. I have friends who are constantly finding "holy grail" products which have changed their lives/faces. In two months time they will be enthusiastically recommending some completely different holy grail product, and have forgotten all about the previous one. It's not really about the products, it's about the optimism and hope for transformation that comes with trying a new thing.

Having said that, some products will suit your skin better than other, and it sounds like you should stick with this one OP!

Derekhello · 12/03/2021 10:38

Just wanted to ask, did anyone used to use their lacura shimmering day cream? Gave an amazing glow and smelt like peaches and only £1.99! Was the best! And of course they discontinued it 😔 still upset about it some 7 years later 😭 😭

ShiningGonnaShine · 12/03/2021 11:20

Again, you're probably right @TheYearOfSmallThings. Although I've been using lots of different products for the last year (having been very much a blue pot Nivea only kind of gal previously!) and I haven't had this kind of thing happen with any of them (I mean, I really like the REN glow tonic but that was more of a gradual realisation that my skin was nice and glowy. Other than that, they've all been fairly meh - and kind of confirmed my previous belief that it was all snake oil and blue Nivea was the way to go 😁).

Either way, I'm pleased my bags seem to have been reduced, whatever the reason.

Thank you. Do you use the night version too?
Catwoman123 · 12/03/2021 12:44

@TheYearOfSmallThings for me it's definitely the q10 Serum but as I said it's not worked miracles..my dark areas are still there but its got rid of the puffiness which my more expensive creams haven't.
I also have a daughter that is very blunt and will tell me when I look like a zombie or an old hag Sad.
I forgot who asked but I am using the q10 Serum that op posted a pic of, I haven't tried the other creams in the range.

FreshFaceTime · 12/03/2021 13:16

I've just bought the Q10 night cream. I already had the serum. Have used it in the mornings for a while - can't say I've noticed any miracles but I like the way it feels and I like the smell.

Have also ordered the moisture boost cream (clinique moisture surge dupe) online as I'm keen to try it and haven't managed to find any in store. Chucked in an original hot cloth cleanser while I was ordering as I haven't tried that one before and it's another thing I can never find in store.

Has anyone used the pixi dupe toners? Never sure which ones are best to try out. They have rose, collagen, hyaluronic, retinol... no idea where to start. And it's toner, does it really make that much difference?

Re placebo effect... meh... I've always said I don't care if something is a placebo effect or an actual one. If it helps perk me up a bit and feel a bit better I don't think it matters that it took a 2 quid serum to achieve that. With skincare I definitely notice the way things feel before I notice any visual effects (if any) and in general I feel like my skin looks and feels nicer since I've been sploshing a few different things on it. If that's a placebo thing then so be it...

FreshFaceTime · 12/03/2021 13:21

Oooh I think I got the list of toners wrong...it was glycolic, not hyaluronic 🙄 see... no idea!

TeaAddict235 · 12/03/2021 18:50

Thank you @ShiningGonnaShine . That is very helpful.

Chilledchablis · 13/03/2021 19:33

Love Aldi Caviar day & night creams especially when on special offer in a gift box with free eye gel - usually only available at Christmas or Mother's Day, like now! Just been in and stocked up as sold out online. My ageing skin has never been so soft and smooth - a great recommendation from one who was Clarins trained in the distant past. Now paying £7 a pop instead of £70+ - yay!!

ThanksForAllTheFish · 14/03/2021 11:02

I waiting on them bringing back the purple colour toner (like the Pixi one) and serum/tonic again. I’m sure they have retinol in them.

I have another bottle of toner they done (green lid and like the original Pixi glow) but didn’t realise it has aloe vera in it so can’t use it as aloe vera makes my skin bright red and feels like it’s on fire.

I’m tempted to try the rose serum/tonic they have out at the moment but I loathe the smell of rose in skin care products. For the people who have it does it smell strongly of roses?

I have a horrible feeling they won’t be releasing the purple version again as the last two skin care releases have only been the rose version.

FreshFaceTime · 14/03/2021 11:25

I've just bought the rose toner and it does smell a bit rosey but it's fine. It doesn't hang around for long. I'd be more bothered if it lingered. I've been using the rose toner (with hyaluronic acid) in the morning and the glycolic toner (think that's the one you said you couldn't use) at night. I'd have stocked up on some of the retinol one if it had been there. They had a collagen one when I was in store. Not sure about aloe vera but you could try it if you don't fancy the rose one?

FreshFaceTime · 14/03/2021 11:27

For anyone contemplating various Aldi skincare products, I didn't get on with the caviar night cream - liked the smell and it was nice to apply but I found it too rich - so I tried the Q10 night cream instead and loved it.

JMAngel1 · 14/03/2021 12:37

I've just had an Aldi Beauty Shop Up!
Got the Q10 serum as per this thread.
A black rose sisley dupe face mask - have always wanted to try the sisley one but ££££ - have been wanting a hydrating mask for a while.
Hot cloth cleanser with marine algae and HA - just ran out of my usual Suoerdrug Vit E hot cloth one and fancied a change - plus can't get to a Superdrug easily.
Got a Paradise shower gel - think it's a White Company dupe - smells like heaven.

FreshFaceTime · 14/03/2021 12:49

@JMAngel1 I got the rose mask and the marine cleanser too. Haven't used the mask yet but am really pleased with the cleanser. What did you think of the superdrug vit E cleanser? I've been meaning to try it but bit of a faff for me to get to a Superdrug at the mo too. Their app is such a pain - empties your basket if you leave the app! I like to ponder my purchases for at least a month before I commit. Piss off emptying my basket!!

JMAngel1 · 14/03/2021 13:21

I like the Superdrug cleanser - very mild, non irritating and hydrating. I would have continued with it if I had been organised in time to have a back up supply. Now looking forward to a change tonight though - just hope I get on ok with it.

FreshFaceTime · 14/03/2021 13:25

At least if you don't you haven't forked out £££s though!
