New dress & weight gain - yay or nay?

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 18:32

I've went from being a nicely sized hourglass to far too much weight around middle in last 6 months. I have endo and I do struggle with it and the lockdown.

Anyway - I'm hosting an event online this weekend which involves a live demonstration. I thought I'd dress up a bit and I feel soo comfy in the dress but thinking I might need to shift the pounds again first Sad it doesn't look so awful when I stand up straight as you can see, but otherwise not great.

Wear this or a black kind to tummy rolls number instead? Ta

I think yay if you feel comfortable in it and not self conscious, it's a great colour and you have a great shape. It will look great on the screen.

Whyistheteacold · 27/01/2021 18:35

I love this dress. The colour and cut is fabulous on you, I would keep it. If you feel comfortable in the dress then wear this, you look great op

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 18:36

I've honestly had a bit of a shock taking these photos. I actually lost a stone beginning of lockdown, now all back on again! I think they will motivate me to sort it out

I agree with the 1st 2 posts!!!

Janaih · 27/01/2021 18:37

That looks a bit too tight im afraid. Lovely colour dress.

thenightsky · 27/01/2021 18:38

Can you get someone to film you moving around so you have a better idea of how the fabric clings or drapes? You don't want to be all self-conscious on the day.

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2021 18:39

It’s a beautiful dress but I agree it looks tight. It will drive you nuts when you’re wearing it.

I’d go for the other option.

BronwenFrideswide · 27/01/2021 18:40

It looks too tight as it is creasing and pulling and therefore doesn't flatter you as it should.

Personally, I wouldn't wear it and would choose something different.

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 18:40

Hmm it doesn't feel tight. The arm straps are actually a bit loose, so the next size up would be too big I think.

I think carrying extra weight at the moment in lighter colour is going to show up more. I'm just sick of wearing black.

Aw it just arrived today. I dont really have anything else apart from the same old black dress I usually wear.

It doesn't flatter me because I've got fat. I chose this style intentionally because I'm sick of wearing frumpy clothes to cover up.

Love it

Maybe Spanx may help?
Your figure is wonderful btw !!!!!

Cheator · 27/01/2021 18:42

I love the dress, throw some spanxs underneath and it would be fine.

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2021 18:43

Add some brightly coloured jewellery to your black dress?

How much of it will be seen on zoom? Will the whole thing be on camera?

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 18:44

Hmm I havent tried spanx before. Not sure I can get one before Saturday, maybe Amazon?!

Also the dress needs ironed. It arrived quite crushed if that will make a difference. Who knows.

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2021 18:45

I agree you have a really lovely figure. It’s a shame the dress is pulling so much that’s it looks the wrong size.

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 18:45

Thanks @dublingirl66.

That's very nice. I've gained weight but trying not to be too hard on myself. I know I'll sort it out again.

OP posts:
Maria53 · 27/01/2021 18:47

@PurpleDaisies the dress is stretchy and actually feels loose around the arms and waist. It is only the tummy that feels tighter ti me. This is why I think the next size up would be no use overall

Hourglass is very hard to shop for. Feels fine some places and not others.

It's a nice dress in a great colour but it's not flattering at your current weight. If you definitely think you will lose weight again then keep it.

That's not to say you are in any way hideously overweight, you do have a very nice shape.

Vallmo47 · 27/01/2021 18:49

Would love your figure. As long as you can sit down comfortably, I say be proud of what you’ve been given 🙌 Haters will hate, no one who cares about you will even notice a problem. I certainly don’t.

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 18:49

I think I might stay away from this material in future. I usually wear dresses where you wouldnt even see a pull like this.

OP posts:
BronwenFrideswide · 27/01/2021 18:50

It's a shame Maria53 because the style and colour are perfect for you but the fit is just not doing you justice.

Chickydoo · 27/01/2021 18:50

Gorgeous waist up. Waist down... maybe Spanx?
It all depends on how confident you are & if you care about a bit of tum or not.

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 18:52

@CheddarGorgeous and @BronwenFrideswide oh dear, I know you're right. I feel so sad about it but the truth hurts.

The dress is also available in black and arrived in a day...hmm

This. Great dress. I wouldn't feel comfortable presenting in it as is.
