New dress & weight gain - yay or nay?

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 18:32

I've went from being a nicely sized hourglass to far too much weight around middle in last 6 months. I have endo and I do struggle with it and the lockdown.

Anyway - I'm hosting an event online this weekend which involves a live demonstration. I thought I'd dress up a bit and I feel soo comfy in the dress but thinking I might need to shift the pounds again first Sad it doesn't look so awful when I stand up straight as you can see, but otherwise not great.

Wear this or a black kind to tummy rolls number instead? Ta

Honestly I don’t think the dress is flattering for your new figure. It does look strained, as if it’s the wrong size, even if it feels okay. The bodycon fit emphasises your stomach and the colour creates an unflattering shadow, so you’d have to be careful with lighting. For that reason, the black version would be more flattering as no shadow

Maybe you can stand at a flattering angle if it’s all online? Or position your camera so that your bottom half isn’t visible

QueenPawPaws · 27/01/2021 21:50

@Maria53 I don't know if you already have it and possibly not suitable but this is in the sale and the most flattering dress ever

Strongly agree that the dress looks better on you than the model!

It’s a great dress, and you have a lovely figure, but the current size doesn’t look like it fits well.

I’d definitely keep it though, if you think you may one day fit it better.

Am totally in the same boat (I think many of us are) - trying to lose my lockdown weight (and we were only in lockdown for 8 weeks, so it’s scant excuse), but with the added bonus of peri-menopause making it that much more challenging.

Sickoffamilydrama · 27/01/2021 22:19

The dress looks great on you. But I'm also a great believer that if you don't feel good in something don't wear it.

Please don't be hard on yourself clothes should be made to fit us not us made to fit clothes.

@MoreMorelos

Are you comfortable? You said yes Do you love it? You said yes

Wear the dress!

Nothing wrong with your figure, nothing wrong with having a bit of belly - it's normal!!

Hope your event goes well

This all over. I think you look great. A little tummy is normal and your figure is amazing.
Maybe not with the bootie things Grin
Maria53 · 27/01/2021 22:27

@sofiaaaaaa 'your new figure'. Say what you really mean Grin

It's a pencil dress 1950s style. I love this style of dress and want to wear them again. So I'll just need to go on a diet.

@QueenPawPaws do you have the dress?

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 22:28

Ha ha @wishywashywoowoo70 definitely not! I got gorgeous new shoes at christmas, god knows when I'll wear them on an actual night out...

Thanks for the compliment. I feel less like a massive fatso as per some of the comments.

Oo that's lovely.
I've never heard of this website. The clothes are lovely.
I'm a short chubster though so they won't look
Good on me

Bluntness100 · 27/01/2021 22:49

I’m sorry, I think it’s a lovely dress, I love the colour but it’s to small for you and is obviously so, and not doing you any favours really.

QueenPawPaws · 27/01/2021 22:50

This style is also really nice (yes I have this too!)

@Beachlovingirl thanks for this, I actually have an almost identical dress. Gets pulled out for special occasions only.

This dress I was hoping would work on an evening out but also with a cardi for a nice lunch etc. V different styles.

When you posted the link to the model wearing it, it's clear to see why it fits you the way it does.
The dress is designed so the straps are meant to be so loose that they fall down the shoulders. Whereas you're wearing it so the straps fit snugly and it's therefore too tight elsewhere. If you went a couple of sizes up, it would perhaps fit the way it's "meant" to fit?

kowari · 28/01/2021 07:39

Seeing the dress on the model it looks like you are wearing a too small size. Is it the right size according to the size chart?

StarlightLady · 28/01/2021 08:04

OP, to make you feel better it’s a lovely dress and my own dresses have shrunk(!) during lockdown.

I agree it’s slightly tight on the tum, but as it’s new, it may have some give. It’s slightly tight, not very tight and pictures always “freeze” you at an odd moment. Real life has movement.

Are you going to be seen full length anyway? If so people will be unable to notice your face on their monitors. In addition, you are likely to be quite some distance from the mic unless you have a high tech set up.

Cheator · 28/01/2021 11:31

I think the shoulder straps are supposed to be off the shoulder, which is why they feel too loose when you have them up over your shoulders.

It's a really lovely dress on you and your figure is great, just order the size up and throw some Spanx under, no one will see the label.

I used to get caught up on wearing my small size jeans even though going up a size and not having a muffin top is much more flattering, I just got obsessed with fitting in the smaller size.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 28/01/2021 12:07

I personally don't like to see tummy weight but that's a little preference . You have an hourglass figure and could flatter it much more . However if you like it then wear it ! 🤷‍♀️

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 28/01/2021 19:47

I love the colour. I think with more suitable knickers it will be fine. It really shows off your curves.

Hollyhead · 28/01/2021 19:49

I think it looks fab and if you feel fab that’s the main thing. It will also still look fab if you lose weight overtime too so it’s a win win.

lovescaca · 28/01/2021 19:58

U look great but ur underwear seems a little tight . X

TornadoOfSouls · 28/01/2021 20:12

The dress is too tight. It’s clear from the model pic (which I don’t like) that the fit is slightly odd and intended to be looser. It also looks like a summer dress on the model, I think.

However - the colour is fantastic on you, the pencil shape is great on you, and you have a very lovely figure. You can absolutely wear a pencil/slim dress - but you need it to skim, not cling, and you need a Spanx slip. Even if you were a size 6 a Spanx slip would improve the look of that style of dress, so saying ‘you need Spanx’ isn’t code for ‘you look fat’ at all, it’s just a question of the style of dress.

Vitaminsss · 28/01/2021 21:46

If I’m speaking freely, I’m not wowed by the photos. I wouldn’t have said you had an hourglass figure on first glance as the dress draws attention to your stomach, making the silhouette of your figure much less noticeable.

If anything, it looks like you’re sucking your tummy in based on your posture (shoulders etc) to look more hourglassy. You may not be of course, regardless the dress looks uncomfortable. It looks like you’re wearing Spanx due to the crease above your stomach. That dress is likely to crease whilst you’re sat down so even if you iron it, when you get up to start the demo it will be creased again. Bit of a faff.

You don’t have to go for a boring dress, you can still wear bodycon! Just go for more expensive materials. House of CB comes to mind - their material is quite thick and naturally smooths over any lumps. They’re known for a flattering fit.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 28/01/2021 22:35

Nay.

It’s just too small. You’ve a good figure but that dress in that size. No.

yaboo · 01/02/2021 08:04

loving the colour, it's fabbo on you. Defo a keeper. If you haven't got time for spanks, then try a big pair of granny knickers and two pairs of tights. Works for me. Hope your demonstration earns you loadsa money x

OhTheTastyNuts · 01/02/2021 13:23

The dress looks soooo much better than you than it does on the model! I also prefer the shoulder straps they way you have them.

Did you get spanx in the end? Did they help?
