New dress & weight gain - yay or nay?

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 18:32

I've went from being a nicely sized hourglass to far too much weight around middle in last 6 months. I have endo and I do struggle with it and the lockdown.

Anyway - I'm hosting an event online this weekend which involves a live demonstration. I thought I'd dress up a bit and I feel soo comfy in the dress but thinking I might need to shift the pounds again first Sad it doesn't look so awful when I stand up straight as you can see, but otherwise not great.

Wear this or a black kind to tummy rolls number instead? Ta

I have endo so I get this.
I would do zero carb between now and the weekend and buy Spanx. Then it will look perfect

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 19:29

I don't @doadeer. About 2 years ago I got shapewear from m and s and I felt it made such little difference it put me off. Any specific brands that are good?

Thanks @MoreMorelos Smile I

I had to return a bravissimo dress that clinched my waist and flattened my stomach because it was so busty. Every dress I tried there showed off the bosom too much. I think she thought I was bring prudish but I dont like that personally.

@GenevaMaybe I'm new to having endo so I am still learning about it.

When I cut out bread last year and lost that stone I did look and feel better. I do love bread but I think I'll need to try what you suggest.

I think spanx are great just to smooth out these type of styles, even super slim celebrities wear clever underwear! I have a similar body type and it really creates a beautiful smooth shape.

MrDarcysMa · 27/01/2021 19:32

It's a great colour especially with your hair but I do agree with you that it's emphasising parts of you you'd rather it didn't ! Some smoothing underwear or tights should help x
@NatashaAlianovaRomanova this is the dress with a massive discount: www.collectif.co.uk/clothes-c1/fitted-dresses-c2/lorena-plain-pencil-dress-p13918

Might need to opt for a shaper, will try it out.
Looking at the dress on the model, I'm inclined to think that the straps are supposed to be quite (very) loose and it would be worth ordering a larger size to try. If you look at how it sits on your shoulders vs the models, you can see a difference.

As everyone else has said, gorgeous shape and beautiful green colour! Just not quite the right cut.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 27/01/2021 19:35

Thanks @Maria53 I have ordered in my pre-lockdown size so I'd best avoid the Christmas chocs!

Like you I'm a lover of bread but have to avoid it the week before I wear anything pencil style which is a shame because I can polish of a whole tiger loaf with a pound of butter Blush

cordelia16 · 27/01/2021 19:38

@Mandalayblonde

TBF, I don't honestly think it's particularly flattering even on the model!
I thought the same thing.
BronwenFrideswide · 27/01/2021 19:38

Don't feel guilty Maria53, you sound like you've a lot going on on top of all the other crap about at the moment.

Supersimkin2 · 27/01/2021 19:39

Two pairs of Spanx, which I guarantee the model is also wearing, will see you proud. M&S have a good version on sale.

You look great and rock that dress, which you've also made look lovely.

Nopreservatives · 27/01/2021 19:42

I think it looks better on you than it does on the model. I looks too big for her.

RunnerDown · 27/01/2021 19:49

I think you look better in the dress than the model does. You should keep the dress even if you don’t wear it for your demonstration

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 19:53

Thanks @RunnerDown. Appreciate that hugely!

I've found a non glamorous dress which highlights my waist and boobs then flares out. It doesnt make me feel fancy or special at all! But it is more flattering.

I think I'll hold off buying more dresses and focus on losing weight again once my house move is complete in a week or so.

ginandwineandbaileys · 27/01/2021 19:55

You have a great shape, that dress could be flattering - but if I wore it, I'd wear smoothing underwear, it would help with the wrinkling.

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 20:02

With the smoothing under thingy, is it best to get your usual size or next size down or what?

Fluffyhairforever · 27/01/2021 20:10

Looks really sexy and feminine. And a striking colour!

TiredMummyZZZ · 27/01/2021 20:20

Some of the responses on here would really upset me!

You have a lovely figure and you Don’t need to feel guilty about gaining weight, who hasn’t during the last year!

It’s a lovely dress but I doesn’t sit in the most flattering way, I’d either wear Spanx or a long cardi/ shawl and belt it at the waist.

If you wear the black dress you have mentioned you could add a neck scarf or some statement jewellery to pep it up a bit?

grassisjeweled · 27/01/2021 20:43

The non glam sounds a good call.

Another one who can confirm that spanx REALLY works

Geography101 · 27/01/2021 20:51

Am I the only one who thinks this dress is really awful 😬 it looks cheap and really outdated 🤷‍♀️

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 20:56

@Geography101 I don't like looking modern, I generally prefer the 40s/50s kind of look.

Honestly @TiredMummyZZZ some of the replies have upset me but I opened myself up to it! I will see how the spanx goes first. Then it will likely be back to the black dress. Joy.

BronwenFrideswide · 27/01/2021 21:10

Just wanted to agree with a couple of other posters that the dress suits you far better than the model and I totally disagree with Geography101 the dress doesn't look outdated or cheap on you Maria53, it's definitely your style and colour.

Try not to be upset Maria53, you really don't have to do too much to achieve the look you want, take care.

ScrapThatThen · 27/01/2021 21:26

Definitely better on you than the model.

Get spanx in your normal size

Gwenhwyfar · 27/01/2021 21:35

Looks too tight, but also might look better with black tights and spanx.

Janaih · 27/01/2021 21:41

I wear an m&s cooling slip under dresses, always makes them sit better.
I think your stomach is more prominent in the photo because you're head is cut off. That would be the main focus in real life.
