New dress & weight gain - yay or nay?

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 18:32

I've went from being a nicely sized hourglass to far too much weight around middle in last 6 months. I have endo and I do struggle with it and the lockdown.

Anyway - I'm hosting an event online this weekend which involves a live demonstration. I thought I'd dress up a bit and I feel soo comfy in the dress but thinking I might need to shift the pounds again first Sad it doesn't look so awful when I stand up straight as you can see, but otherwise not great.

Wear this or a black kind to tummy rolls number instead? Ta

@Chickydoo brutal! It was designed for a normal zoom session then Grin

Think I'm in denial about the weight gain. I will need to lose it. I've always had a slight tummy, but recently is the worst ever.

Don't get the same in black, find a nicer dress. Maybe a fit and flare to show off your nice waist?

fellrunner85 · 27/01/2021 18:55

Agree with others - the dress isn't flattering and, if it was me, I'd feel very self conscious in it.
That doesn't mean you have to buy something boring though - surely there are colourful and flattering dresses out there that aren't skin-tight?

Nopreservatives · 27/01/2021 18:56

With some good smoothing underwear, you'll look amazing.

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 18:58

This is what I feel rubbish about @CheddarGorgeous. This time a year ago I could wear a dress like this more easily ecause I didnt have a large tummy.

I ALWAYS wear fit and flare now to disguise the stomach and now I'm thinking...so is that it? Can I never wear the dresses I really like again?

I'll have a look on collectif again at different options as they delivered quickly. I agree it is better to be realistic

Go easy on yourself OP, we're in lockdown, it's winter, you have endo. If you lost the weight before you can do it again. I've gained about a stone in 7 months and am just starting to do something about it. I cannot fit into any of my nice clothes and it's getting me down. But all you can do is keep trying!

Girlintheframe · 27/01/2021 19:03

The colour really suits you!

I really like the dress too but dont think it's very flattering.
I see dresses all the time that I love but dont flatter my shape for one reason or another

nancybotwinbloom · 27/01/2021 19:05

You have a lovely figure.

I also suggest smoothing underwear. You can get a dress type one that goes under your bust like this

The style really suits you-it’s only the fact it looks like it’s pulling all over that’s the issue. Otherwise it would be perfect.

devildeepbluesea · 27/01/2021 19:07

I have a similar figure to you, and my tummy roll has definitely ballooned this year. If it were me, I'd try spanx but I'd probably choose a different dress.

That said, it looks good on you but I know that feeling of too much timber on show!

Lamentations · 27/01/2021 19:08

I agree the dress is lovely but it does not flatter your stomach and Spanx will definitely make all the difference.

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 19:08

I think the point is though this type of dress always did flatter me. It doesn't now because of weight gain. Having to adjust to this means I cant wear what I really like and I'm still only 29. It's making me think about ageing and endo has only come up in the last year or 2. It's hard.

@CheddarGorgeous I know. I'm also moving house at the moment so stress is high.

I think I'll keep the dress and aim to fit into it a bit more nicely in a month or 2. I wanted to feel a bit special for a change for the event which is the first time I will ever host one. I probably just have to opt for the usual black dress.

I've seen a next day spanx delivery, may as well try it anyway

Don't be too hard on yourself Maria53, I don't think you have much to lose/tone up.

If you tried the bigger size could you adjust the arm straps so they don't slip?

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2021 19:09

I think the point is though this type of dress always did flatter me.

It would if it was fitted right. That’s the problem, not the style.

Rooroobear · 27/01/2021 19:10

I agree with pp, get some Spanx, they are amazing x

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 19:12

Thanks @BronwenFrideswide. I feel guilty for letting myself gain the weight.

No the straps are a bit loose as it is so next size would be no good. I know it is hard for you all to tell but I do feel the next size would just be too big.

I need to lose weight so I dont need to worry about this.

OP your current figure is my pre-lockdown figure & I wore lots of similar style dresses!

I have the shaper type slip that a PP posted up thread & wore that along with shaper pants under them - they smoothed out my lumps & bumps.

Where is the dress from? I've been looking for a green dress for ages & can't find one I like!

Maria53 · 27/01/2021 19:17

@NatashaAlianovaRomanova this is the dress with a massive discount: www.collectif.co.uk/clothes-c1/fitted-dresses-c2/lorena-plain-pencil-dress-p13918

Might need to opt for a shaper, will try it out.

Have you got shape underwear? That would be perfect for this style dress.

MoreMorelos · 27/01/2021 19:22

Are you comfortable? You said yes
Do you love it? You said yes

Wear the dress!

Nothing wrong with your figure, nothing wrong with having a bit of belly - it's normal!!

Hope your event goes well

Mandalayblonde · 27/01/2021 19:23

TBF, I don't honestly think it's particularly flattering even on the model!

Bralessandfree · 27/01/2021 19:27

You look great. If you feel good in it, wear it.
