I suspect they are, but they've had great reviews.

Didn’t know this was a thing
What is the age range for these?

I need to hide a few boards myself tbh!

Hate the first pair, the chunky buckles are totally out of place on the flimsy looking material. Much prefer the second pair you posted

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/01/2021 11:05

@Poppingnostopping

I don't think boots really define whether a look is frumpy. My teenagers wear this style of boots, one has got a pair which have a small heel and would definitely count as 'mum boots'- she looks fab, wears them with short skirt, torn tights and big chunky knits. I love their styles, but the same thing on me would look ludicrous. They also both have a pair similar to the second ones only with less of a heel.

I think people are overly picky on here, I rarely see super-stylish mums who are at the peak of fashion anyway, so who are these people who are going to be judging the mum boots?!

I'm surrounded by super-stylish mums! Honestly, the school run round here is like something out of Vogue!

@Cleverpolly3 - "outlandish and very statement" has just increased their appeal to me! Grin

You answered your question by typing www.joules absolutely mum boots, anything from that overpriced version of Next is Mum. 💐

IfTheSockFits · 03/01/2021 11:12

Like the first pair, second pair are awful according to dd (21 and not a mum).

SlopesOff · 03/01/2021 11:17

@SinkGirl

Those boots look like frumpy boots with buckle straps on, however they do look comfortable if you don't care how you look.

Miaow. They’re not a pair of Crocs FFS.

No need for Miaow. Assume you like them, I am allowed not to.
LookMoreCloselier · 03/01/2021 11:19

I like them but I'm a mum so maybe that's clouding my judgement 😁. They would look nice with leggings or tights. And ok with Jeans.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/01/2021 11:19

I don't like the second pair.

The first pair are a bit too flat looking for the buckles, if that makes any sense. They are a bargain though and should be decent quality.

I loathe the phrase 'mum boots' though. If you like them and they suit your lifestyle, who gives a fuck about whether some random people on the internet define a pair of boots with a phrase that makes precisely zero sense and is so self critical too, since presumably everyone on here is a mum by the very nature of the site. It's fucking ridiculous.

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/01/2021 11:23

Good decision op. Don’t like either pair and why post a pair of Church’s boots at £570 on this thread? I mean they’re far nicer. But out of most people’s price range. I wouldn’t spend that much on a pair of boots!

Nameandgamechange123 · 03/01/2021 11:23

I think they look a bit plasticy. Are you sure these will be the bargain you were hoping for?

This is accurate. I love Joules, but I am tres mumsée. I love a gilet and M&S clothes Blush. Still wouldn't wear those boots though! They're ghastly imo and don't think they're OP's style either.

YY, they look cheap. They are a bit...Shoe Zone, if that isn't an awful thing to say!
Atalune · 03/01/2021 11:25

I love my DM classic chelsea boots. If budget allows that would be my recommendation. They are just chunky enough and timeless.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 03/01/2021 11:26

@UsernameSaved

Not sure what you mean by "didn't know this was a thing", but I love those boots and being Church's they will be beautiful leather. I actually own a very similar style from Zara as unfortunately Church's are way above my budget. As for age - I'm, early 50s, if it matters.
AlbertaAlberta · 03/01/2021 11:27

I was also thinking DMs (maybe in the sales)? Although, they take a lot of breaking in.

Also thought of Grenson Nanettes but they are ££££.

AnyFucker · 03/01/2021 11:33

They are meh

If you wouldn't consider wearing them at full price don't buy them in the sale. You can't fool yourself into liking them by saving a few quid.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/01/2021 11:37

I'd love a pair of docs, but I can't afford them. Tbh I can't afford any of them - my mum offered to get the Joules ones as an alternative Christmas present (because she ordered the dungarees I'd wanted in the wrong size, and by the time she gave to me they'd sold out in all sizes Confused - and I know boots aren't dungarees, but I couldn't find another pair I like, and she knows I need new boots too, as mine are leaking). I didn't like the Joules ones, so found the Schuh ones. Can't ask DM to spend more, she's a pensioner.

TL:DR - I haven't worked since pre-the first lockdown, I can't afford expensive boots.

SoupDragon · 03/01/2021 11:37

@Maireas

When did "mum" become such a pejorative word? Is it a synonym for bring dull and frumpy? That's a shame. Wear what you like.
This.
Bluntness100 · 03/01/2021 11:38

Yes they are. I think if you shop at joules,it’s almost a given.

Oh yes sorry, I read it as if you were referring to the boots you linked to.
HighHeelBoots · 03/01/2021 11:41

I like the first boots, hate the second
I usually wear big chunky boots. I'm done with docs, breaking them in is too hard
I bought chunky kickers this year. Odd sizes were heavily reduced and I get loads of compliments

Tenyearsgone · 03/01/2021 11:45

I read that as 'chunky knickers' 😂

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/01/2021 11:45

I agree, but I shop there for the DC, and am occasionally drawn in by how warm and comfy everything looks...Blush
