I suspect they are, but they've had great reviews.

'Mum boots' implies there is something intrinsically wrong, unstylish etc about being a mum. You mean are they frumpy? Imo no they're not, but then I am a mum Grin
I have a first class degree in fashion design if that helps? Still a mum though.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/01/2021 10:12

@AlbertaAlberta

Don't do it op!

They look cheap, which is why they are so heavily reduced. Don't let the bastards get you! You don't even like them. No!

Sorry, bit bossy Blush. I got taken in by sales a month or so ago and now have boots I don't like and feel terrible about buying them. Like you, it was the price that got me!

You're quite right, I don't like them! Full price I wouldn't even consider them.

Thank you for talking some sense into me. Grin

I prefer the second pair, but I don't love them. I also think they might date? Not sure for how much longer those chunky boots are going to be 'in'.

AlbertaAlberta · 03/01/2021 10:13

Any time op! I don't often get my bossy pants on, but I did it for you Grin.

I'm a mum too, twice over. But yes, I don't want to wear anything frumpy. I'm an actor. Can't afford to look frumpy unless I'm prepared to radically change my casting type (I'm not).

Can't you wear comfortable boots, then when you go for casting, change into something else (orange lizard skin with five inch heels?)

Go for it, Greebol!

MacDuffsMuff · 03/01/2021 10:27

I quite like them. And I'm a mum so I guess I would be allowed to wear them. Grin

Hate the Schuh ones.

Poppingnostopping · 03/01/2021 10:32

I don't think boots really define whether a look is frumpy. My teenagers wear this style of boots, one has got a pair which have a small heel and would definitely count as 'mum boots'- she looks fab, wears them with short skirt, torn tights and big chunky knits. I love their styles, but the same thing on me would look ludicrous. They also both have a pair similar to the second ones only with less of a heel.

I think people are overly picky on here, I rarely see super-stylish mums who are at the peak of fashion anyway, so who are these people who are going to be judging the mum boots?!

SlopesOff · 03/01/2021 10:33

I wouldn't wear the first pair because they remind me of Chelsea boots but with buckles and I loathe Chelsea boots on most people, most times they never look quite right. Those boots look like frumpy boots with buckle straps on, however they do look comfortable if you don't care how you look.

The Shuh ones are a better shape but look just as cheap as the first ones, in a more uncomfortable way, however if I had to choose it would be those, but that's because of the style, not the perceived quality.

JustLikeStitch · 03/01/2021 10:37

Why is something being “mum clothing” seen as a bad thing? Isn’t all clothing that mothers wear “mum boots/jeans/tops” etc?

Cleverpolly3 · 03/01/2021 10:38

The first pair aren’t biker boots they’re a pensioner version of biker boots. They are so flat and the height will cut your legs in half and make you look stumpy unless you are Elle McPherson.
The second pair will be more flattering on your legs and with clothes but they are quite outlandish and very statement.

Personally I would keep looking

Miaow. They’re not a pair of Crocs FFS.

Batmanandbobbin · 03/01/2021 10:40

Step away from the sale.

😂😂😂😂

Spied · 03/01/2021 10:42

Yes, they're Mum Boots.
You are attracted by the price. Not the boot.
If you really lived them you would not be asking the question.

AlbertaAlberta · 03/01/2021 10:42

YY @Batmanandbobbin.

Off topic and possibly unnecessary info, but I'm making a list of things I can buy this year and sticking to it. Nothing else is getting bought! Sick of grabbing impulse buys in the sales only to end up not wearing them and selling on / donating. Terrible habit I had last year, but no more!

Stay strong op! You don't want those boots.

I hate MN sometimes and this thread is one of the reasons. Where whatever the fuck suits your look and you feel comfortable in. If MN didn't exist would you walk down the street thinking everyone was judging you and for being 'mumsy'?

That's good advice and obviously everyone should wear whatever the fuck they like. But this is the fashion board. It would be quite empty if none of us cared about how we looked, tbf Smile.
Allispretty · 03/01/2021 10:50

The scuch ones are so much nicer but I wouldn't be seen dead in joules (sorry if offending anyone) they look like a pair of boots from shoe zone with a hefty price tag!

Get the schuh ones or if you like chunky/combat style boots invest in a pair of docs

MumOfPsuedoAdult · 03/01/2021 10:52

@AlbertaAlberta I agree about caring about what you look like. What I find irritating is not choosing something you might like because you think others (strangers on the web rather than people in RL) may judge you for looking a certain way.

Well, with respect, maybe you'd be better off hiding the Style and Beauty board? It is where people come to ask the opinions of strangers on the internet on how they look.

If you take issue with the phrase 'mum boots', that's a separate issue, which a lot of people seem to have. Doesn't bother me. I love mom jeans etc. But I get why people might dislike the phrase.

MumOfPsuedoAdult · 03/01/2021 10:59
