I suspect they are, but they've had great reviews.

I like the Joules ones. They look stylish.
I am not keen on the Shuh ones.

Atalune · 03/01/2021 11:46

Well I am NOT suggesting you get into debt for boots or anything else but you could pay with Klarna (over 3/4 payments) for some more expensive boots?
Your mum would maybe make the first payment of £30 or so and then you pay the rest off each month? But don’t do it if you can’t afford it.

Also worth looking on eBay for unwanted boots that were presents and Depop too. I’m not fussy about second hand shoes though.

My DMs were fine to break in. Smile

"Can't afford to look frumpy"

Not ever?

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/01/2021 11:48

Obviously not ever. If I'm not leaving the house I revel in comfy frumpiness.

Ah, thanks Atalune, but they're still more than twice the price. Plus I'm not hugely keen on Chelsea boots.

Also if you have small feet you might be able to shop in the kids/juniors?

AlbertaAlberta · 03/01/2021 11:53

Oh yes, good idea! When I was a teenager I used to buy kids trainers. So much cheaper!
MacDuffsMuff · 03/01/2021 11:53

When did "mum" become such a pejorative word? Is it a synonym for bring dull and frumpy? That's a shame.
Wear what you like

Since the MN ever so stylish people who are no doubt sitting in their joggers like lots of people, decreed it so. 🤣

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/01/2021 11:53

I do not, unfortunately. Size 6.

Then my feet grew and now I wear a 7 though! Boo!

This.
midnightstar66 · 03/01/2021 12:19

I don't like them, I don't think they are too 'mum' or anything else but I don't like such fine soles and the leather and buckles look cheap

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/01/2021 12:28

As I believe has been pointed out, this the Style and Beauty section. Part of its purpose is get other people's opinions on how we look and what we're wearing.

I do wear what I like, I just like to gather opinions on what other people like and don't like too - and I used the term "mum boot" because it's been used on these boards for as long as I've been around as shorthand for practical but unstylish boots.

That doesn't make it right.

Maireas · 03/01/2021 12:34

@SoupDragon... very true.
I had a colleague who got her children to call her by her first name because she thought being called "mum" was ageing and frumpy. I thought that was quite sad.

Ah come on OP, it's a shit term really isn't it. It doesn't 'offend' me but it's just a bit FFS if you know what I mean? I agree it's been used for a while on here.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/01/2021 12:38

Well, you're going to struggle to find decent leather ankle boots for that price. A pair of boots are what you make them. And if you're a mum they will also always be mum boots, whatever they look like and whatever you wear them with.

GoldfishParade · 03/01/2021 12:38

Hate the Joules ones, they look like an obvious nod to a key trend without any bite.

I like the second ones

Well thank you for that. Clearly my fault for being skint in a global pandemic.

You can get perfectly decent leather ankle boots for that price. You may wish 'better' ones, lucky you of you can afford it, but you absolutely can get decent boots for this money.

MrsBobDylan · 03/01/2021 12:45

Op, look on eBay for second hand doc martens. Most of my wardrobe has been bought that way. Or TK Maxx online, they have some fab leather boots.

I bought a lovely pair of second hand leather boots before Xmas on there.

midnightstar66 · 03/01/2021 12:46

I find eBay excellent for barely or un worn quality boots . Clarks amazingly do some nice boots (as well as some awful ones) that you can pick up at a fraction of the original price.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/01/2021 13:06

My point is that you might have to 'settle' for something, even if a load of random people on the internet dislike them. A decent pair of black boots to get you through the winter is a really useful thing - and it really doesn't matter, or shouldn't, if they are 'mum' or not, since this means nothing anyway.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 03/01/2021 13:07

Well, ok, fair enough.

I'm tempted to wait a bit though, see if any of the more expensive ones get further reduced.
