What instantly ages?

Whether that be clothing or cosmetics, I'm interested to hear your opinions. I have a few of my own thoughts on this, though I could be way off the mark.

Am in need of a boost and think I might be unwittingly ageing myself before my time.

Thanks.

Mil tended to look masculine at times wearing similar clothing to her DH. I know what you mean.

woodhill · 07/01/2021 16:55

And blouson jackets are very unflattering

Ddot · 07/01/2021 19:17

A little bit of 😇with a smattering of 😈 works best

NiceGerbil · 07/01/2021 19:37

Scented and Xmas, re women getting all manly due to hormones.

Would find kind of mask help? Or maybe a bag?

Wear hair like cousin it from the Addams family?

There must be a straightforward solution. I mean other than women over a certain age staying indoors. I suppose from that perspective covid is a gift!

scentedgeranium · 07/01/2021 20:00

Errr @NiceGerbil not what I meant at all. I'm right in the target age range for aging badly. I'm trying to say there's stuff we can't do much about, so no point making snarky comments about women who are starting to look masculine. I'm much more in tune with the idea of hey it's life, it's what you're dealt, get in with it!

There! Fixed that for you.
Everybody ages. Perhaps wig we a made lol stopped judging each other via so many of the ridiculously unreasonable 'standards' cited on this thread, we could just go about our business, ageing however we choose, without fearing that other women are secretly sneering at our wardrobe choices and thanking their starts that they are ageing 'better' than us. It's so bloody toxic.

CandyLeBonBon · 07/01/2021 20:10

Perhaps if we all made an effort to...etc etc (not the gobbledegook I just wrote!)

scentedgeranium · 07/01/2021 20:17

Ooo @CandyLeBonBon you're so clever! Thank you!

woodhill · 07/01/2021 22:05

Ah well. At least you're not wearing mum boots!

There is nothing wrong with any item of clothing. I will always advocate for individual style and the right to rock any outfit of choice.
scentedgeranium · 08/01/2021 08:07

@Readingandrighting nothing at all wrong with chinos and blazers. Am recalling Julia Roberts looking anything but aged in that combination.

MrsBobDylan · 08/01/2021 08:11

A lot of people on this thread have confused 'out of fashion' with aging, not unfairly because clothes can literally 'date' you back to when they were last in fashion.

I would say to look good you need to wear clothes you absolutely love, in colors/cuts that look amazing on you.

I love the way I dress and make sure I wear something everyday that makes me feel like the 'best me'. I have recently got rid of every single item of clothing which isn't 100% good on me. I now have a wardrobe of around 50 items and each and everyone I love and feel I look good in.

I have very curly hair and have recently cut myself a big curly wild fringe and a clippers undercut at the back. Fucking awesome I am 😂.

StarlightLady · 08/01/2021 08:24

I think it only fair if I answer this about myself when looking in the mirror, not my view on others.

I would say having my hair tied back ages me. So l only do that for gardening, when it’s very warm etc. Also grey pubes, but all pubes have been banned (by me) for ever so many years so the latter is resolved.

I’ve checked my boots, inside and on the sole, none of them have “Mum” stamped on them Grin.

pippistrelle · 08/01/2021 09:09

That won't save you, StarlightLady. Photographic evidence on this thread demonstrates that all boots are mum boots.

Readingandrighting · 08/01/2021 09:11

What are Mum boots?

StarlightLady · 08/01/2021 09:11

@pippistrelle - Better than Dad Boots l suppose!

Readingandrighting · 08/01/2021 09:13

@scentedgeranium and @justanotherneighinparadise

Phew! Grin I read a list upthread & half of it is in my wardrobe! I work with a 20 year old who wears chinos; so I’m happy enough to cling to that!

scentedgeranium · 08/01/2021 09:17

yes still no one has shown us Mum boots. How am I to know if I am unknowingly aging myself? Has anyone got a link to the offending items?

unmarkedbythat · 08/01/2021 09:22

Thinking of yourself as older.

pippistrelle · 08/01/2021 09:26

There have been quite a few photos of mum boots - the first on page 4 of the thread. There have been more at regular intervals. There have been no photos of a non-mum boot though.

Readingandrighting · 08/01/2021 09:29

Okey doke! Off I go to page 4...
