Can anyone recommend a powdery, musky, mysterious, dark perfume?

I'm looking for a powdery, musky, mysterious dark perfume/ scent. Oriental, musk, expensive and mysterious smelling. Violet, jasmine, all the lovely oriental notes. From budget to hundreds.

Current and past faves include: Vanderbilt, violet sky from Tesco, kerbside violet from Lush, So.. Dark Romance, Michael Kors Midnight Shimmer, Miss So Love Potion and Awesome by Primark which I've been told smells like LouLou by Cacherel but I have never smelt that so no idea if that is true. Not old enough to remember it being around and I only wear Vanderbilt as my nan and mum wore it but I do like the smell - it's lovely to me.

I like musk fragrances too some extent such as white musk but I like to smell darker and mysterious. White musk is - on my skin - very clean-smelling and I prefer darker notes.

I would try boots, the perfume shop and department stores on my day off, usually but I've missed the boat somewhat now, haven't I? Hmm

Can anyone recommend me a perfume, body spray or scent line that I may like given those past choices, please? DH has asked for a few options for birthday next week (30 eeeeeekkkk) and Christmas. From budget to higher end any oriental smells you think I may like would be very welcomed! Any ideas very gratefully received thanks all! I'll be ordering blindly as I won't get to try it first, either.

TIA

I love Shalimar and Mitsouko by Guerlain. Actually, I might have to go and have a spritz now... Grin

Tom ford black orchid, if budget allows. Or pomegranate noir by jo M

mrwalkensir · 08/11/2020 19:34

Mitsouko is glorious despite the reformulation, and Opium.

I would have recommended Estée Lauder’s Sensuous Noir, now discontinued sadly. I love Next (yes really) Enchantment. Inexpensive to try. It sounds like we like similar types of things- I hate anything too sweet, so if you find the perfect one, let me know! In the meantime, I have the following on my list to try: Nero Assoluto by Roberto Cavalli, Blue Silk by Agent Provocateur and Arpege by Lanvin.

La Panthere, Cartier

Oriental by Zara. I have it in a roll on that I keep in my pencil case. It's lush and cheap

ALexander McQueen EDP, Shalimar, Vivienne Westwood Budoir

Gertrudetheadelie · 08/11/2020 19:37

Arpege was my work perfume! So long lasting and lovely. Not that common either so it felt a bit more interesting. Also, the cap doesn't fall off in a suitcase which is a plus!

Therollockingrogue · 08/11/2020 19:38

Vivienne Westwood boudoir

Black Opium sounds like it might fit the bill.

Jimmy choo flash is a lovely powdery fragrance smells very expensive but it's not dark.

Dior hypnotic poison.

Coco Noir from Chanel is fab

gower4 · 08/11/2020 19:52

Coromandel from Chanel exclusives is amazing. ££ though.

skeemee · 08/11/2020 20:03

Jimmy Choo Fever is lovely

Wow! Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! Are there any testers or samples available via post or do I have to buy it and chance it? Some of them do sound expensive and I do not want to ask for one and then hate it Confused.

Are there any that around under the £50 mark that if I did not like it wouldn't be such an expensive mistake? Buying a perfume you have never smelt is a gamble. Pandemic perfumery isn't as easy as I thought it would be....

Samples are often available on eBay. (It's a bit of outlay but it's pandemic times). There are perfume fansites where you put in your "notes" and they make suggestions of what fits the profile you're looking for. I found that useful when I was looking for iris perfumes.

Like fragrantica.com

Ghost Deep Night might fit the cheaper end of the budget.
