Can anyone recommend a powdery, musky, mysterious, dark perfume?

I'm looking for a powdery, musky, mysterious dark perfume/ scent. Oriental, musk, expensive and mysterious smelling. Violet, jasmine, all the lovely oriental notes. From budget to hundreds.

Current and past faves include: Vanderbilt, violet sky from Tesco, kerbside violet from Lush, So.. Dark Romance, Michael Kors Midnight Shimmer, Miss So Love Potion and Awesome by Primark which I've been told smells like LouLou by Cacherel but I have never smelt that so no idea if that is true. Not old enough to remember it being around and I only wear Vanderbilt as my nan and mum wore it but I do like the smell - it's lovely to me.

I like musk fragrances too some extent such as white musk but I like to smell darker and mysterious. White musk is - on my skin - very clean-smelling and I prefer darker notes.

I would try boots, the perfume shop and department stores on my day off, usually but I've missed the boat somewhat now, haven't I? Hmm

Can anyone recommend me a perfume, body spray or scent line that I may like given those past choices, please? DH has asked for a few options for birthday next week (30 eeeeeekkkk) and Christmas. From budget to higher end any oriental smells you think I may like would be very welcomed! Any ideas very gratefully received thanks all! I'll be ordering blindly as I won't get to try it first, either.

TIA

  1. Anna Sui ( the original in purple/black beautiful gothic look bottle).
  2. Ghost -Deep Night.

Another vote for Narciso Rodriguez for her.

Here's another vote for Opium, and Black Opium, which I love just as much as the original.

The Actress by St Giles. I'm slightly obsessed by it Grin

Tresor Midnight Rose came to mind - deep floral and woody musk. Very alluring!

I would suggest getting a few of the suggestions here from Perfume Parlour. Their dupes are mostly excellent and then you can decide whether to invest ££ in the designer juice!

Next cashmere (sensuous nude dupe)
Next eau nude
Black opium
Agent provocateur
Avon soft musk
4160 Tuesdays temptation

Appuskidu · 09/11/2020 16:04

Narcissi Rodriguez Poudree is gorgeous and ticks all of those boxes!

Femme by Rochas
the current one isn't a patch on the original!
CleverCatty · 09/11/2020 17:14

Dunno if it's musk but Michael Kors Sexy Amber is nice.

also YSL Elle Intense is lovely and dark smelling - discontinued but you should get it on Ebay etc.

QuentinWinters · 09/11/2020 17:17

Anna Sui Sui Dreams is not expensive but gorgeous and lasts ages.

@PumpkinCheater

chickenyhead yes!!

I was just about to come on here to suggest Narciso Rodriguez For Her.

Doesn't seem to be well known and is under 50 quid. But everyone who tries it seems to like it.

There are very few perfumes I like and the others are £££ unfortunately. But this one is great.

I can't stand Narcisco Rodriguez for her - my mum's fave - I think it smells like disinfectant LOL

I used to love this and have a couple of bottles.
NameChange84 · 09/11/2020 17:23

100% Narcisso Roderiguez for her ticks all your boxes.

Agent Provocateur (pink and black bottle) is similar and cheap as chips.

I used to have this as a student but see it as more sweet and powdery than dark and mysterious iyswim.
QuentinWinters · 09/11/2020 17:30

Its very musky on me....

Both absolutely gorgeous and I always have a bottle of each on the go.

Maybe our skin reacts differently. It’s powdery and baby sweet on me rather than spicy and dark. I know my friend and I can wear the same perfume at the same time and have it smell totally different!
spongedog · 09/11/2020 17:53

Malabah by Penhaligon when they can be bothered to put it back on their website.

I did their fragrance testing thing and didnt really get the result (i was looking for!)

SwearyMaclary · 09/11/2020 19:51

Shay and Blue do some great ones but you need to try them on your skin as they can smell really different. You can order five samples for £20 (they last ages).

Oh the original Anna Sui was my perfume when I was a moody, slightly gothy 17 year old getting ready for art school. I loved it. I almost think I couldn’t bear to smell it now, it would make me emotional!
LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 09/11/2020 21:57

if you like Vanderbilt then try Insolence by Guerlain, it's like Vanderbilt but more...more violet, a hint of powdery, lasts longer on me too.

Aprilcherry04 · 09/11/2020 22:13

Recently came across insolence by guerlain on someone and it smelt gorgeous. I also think u would like narciso Rodriguez for her

Aprilcherry04 · 09/11/2020 22:14

Also I wore Loulou back in the 80s and 90s

DoThePropeller · 09/11/2020 22:17

Le Labo Thé Noir - beautiful perfume
