Can anyone recommend a powdery, musky, mysterious, dark perfume?

I'm looking for a powdery, musky, mysterious dark perfume/ scent. Oriental, musk, expensive and mysterious smelling. Violet, jasmine, all the lovely oriental notes. From budget to hundreds.

Current and past faves include: Vanderbilt, violet sky from Tesco, kerbside violet from Lush, So.. Dark Romance, Michael Kors Midnight Shimmer, Miss So Love Potion and Awesome by Primark which I've been told smells like LouLou by Cacherel but I have never smelt that so no idea if that is true. Not old enough to remember it being around and I only wear Vanderbilt as my nan and mum wore it but I do like the smell - it's lovely to me.

I like musk fragrances too some extent such as white musk but I like to smell darker and mysterious. White musk is - on my skin - very clean-smelling and I prefer darker notes.

I would try boots, the perfume shop and department stores on my day off, usually but I've missed the boat somewhat now, haven't I? Hmm

Can anyone recommend me a perfume, body spray or scent line that I may like given those past choices, please? DH has asked for a few options for birthday next week (30 eeeeeekkkk) and Christmas. From budget to higher end any oriental smells you think I may like would be very welcomed! Any ideas very gratefully received thanks all! I'll be ordering blindly as I won't get to try it first, either.

TIA

I love the same types of scents and would recommend Opium, Tom Ford Noir de Noir, and Youth Dew.

Get your husband to buy you a Perfume Society Discovery box. They've got loads of samples in. Maybe he can buy you a full bottle of whatever you like best? I just tried their Niche Box Band there was s very generous selection in there. The box is £27.

Niche Box V. Not band.

MissBattleaxe · 08/11/2020 23:59

Oh and you can still buy Lou Lou for about £15. I love it. Very Goth!

Free samples (pay postage only) from Penhaligons - and you can do a scent profile too for suggestions of what you might like. Someone upthread has suggested Halfeti.

This one is my fave...

@itchyfinger

Tom ford black orchid, if budget allows. Or pomegranate noir by jo M
God no. Done to death and awful.
Othering · 09/11/2020 00:10

@OhTheRoses

La Panthere, Cartier
Yes to this.
caringcarer · 09/11/2020 00:14

Poison but it is strong and musky so only use s tiny bit.

BaronessBomburst · 09/11/2020 00:21

Arpege is lovely but only if you can get a vintage bottle. The latest reformulation is dire. Not sure it'll be 'dark' enough for the OP though.
Éclat make a wonderful Coromandel dupe. It's not quite as rich or long lasting but I can recommend it. Link here It's number 239.

Mytholmroyd · 09/11/2020 00:22

Must de Cartier

Mytholmroyd · 09/11/2020 00:24

Also love Chanel's Coromandel as others have recommended.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 09/11/2020 07:35

Portrait of a Lady or Dans tes bras by Frederick Malle. The first is quite incensey and the second full of violet and heliotrope.

LunaNorth · 09/11/2020 07:37

Obsession.

Get the vintage formulation from eBay. It always has a gold trim on the lid of the bottle.

It’s beautiful.

AgentCooper · 09/11/2020 07:41

Try Fleur de Peau by Diptyque. I love it but it’s an acquired taste! The moment you said powdery that’s the one I thought of. You can order from Diptyque direct, and they send you a sample so you can return without opening the box if you don’t like it.

KaliforniaDreamz · 09/11/2020 13:49

MissBattleaxe has a lovely suggestion. You could also try perfume parlour for a cheaper way of experimenting.
Shalimar is beautiful.

stella1know · 09/11/2020 13:49

Datura Noir by Serge Lutens, if they still make it. Legendary.

GreyBudgie · 09/11/2020 13:51

Youth Dew. It's warm, powdery and musky.

PachinkoFreeFood · 09/11/2020 13:55

Rose Oud by Loccitane

didireallyjustsaythat · 09/11/2020 14:00

Ange au demon by Givenchy.....been a firm favourite for years.

musicmum75 · 09/11/2020 14:11

If you can justify the cost then look
at Phul Na Na from Grossmith. It's just gorgeous.

BlueRabbitWasNaughty · 09/11/2020 14:15

Rituals do some 'oriental essences' perfumes that are not crazy money. I have this one currently and it's gorgeous, much spicier and darker than I'd normally wear but I'm loving it.

PumpkinCheater · 09/11/2020 14:26

chickenyhead yes!!

I was just about to come on here to suggest Narciso Rodriguez For Her.

Doesn't seem to be well known and is under 50 quid. But everyone who tries it seems to like it.

There are very few perfumes I like and the others are £££ unfortunately. But this one is great.

motheroftwoboys · 09/11/2020 14:27

Aromatics Elixir by Clinique is GORGEOUS!
