Orgasm or Deep Throat?

Friend has asked for this for a present but she can't get to try. I've used both but actually gave away as they were too bright for me.

She' s very pale and had been using Sex Appeal but thinks it's too pale.

I know Hannah Martin loves Deep Throat for all skin tones (in her John Lewis Xmas box) but not sure.
@BlueCowWonders you are welcome. It's not my own work, I nicked it from somewhere else. Gets the message across well, I feel.

I don't have a problem with pointing out ignorance. Many people just go along with this bollocks without acknowledging the implications. Attaching names that signify the abuse of women to daily articles eg makeup normalises the language of it.

It's not ok and it's not harmless
Absolutely agree that it’s not ok and it’s not harmless

LynetteScavo · 05/10/2020 17:12

Thanks for this thread OP.

I now know never to buy NARS Make-up for my teen DD. I'm no prude, but WTF?

DesignerDesigner · 05/10/2020 18:01

I wouldn't NOT buy a product because of the name, because it might be cutting my nose off to spite my face. BUT I'd make an effort to contact the company and say what I thought. Ultimately, they will do nothing unless millions of women boycotted the product.

@TheQueef You've had a very quick reply- I've had nothing back yet.

Sleek do a good dupe first Orgasm called Rose Gold for £4:99.

I like Riviera in the Multiple.

BolandToad · 05/10/2020 19:55

What are the bets that the name was pushed by a man?
It's the opposite of creative.

NiceGerbil · 05/10/2020 20:05

I dunno. Women seem to be coming up with this stuff in these industries/ going along with it/ and certainly buying it.

Nars is pricey so not so much of an issue but in general teenage girls (underage) buy a lot of makeup and it just seems so odd. Women will buy the makeup if it is good and the colours are good. Why reference underage sex directly, or a film that is well known for the woman involved saying it was rape. It just all seems so odd. Maybe I am getting old.

spongedog · 05/10/2020 20:10

@AnyFucker

With no intention to be literal references, NARS shade names are meant never to objectify but always to empower our consumers

I am not their demographic so I expect Nars won't give a shit but they should. This crap isn't "empowering" unless you think porn and prostitution bigs up women.

So I won't be buying and I will be discussing it with female friends/family of all ages. Which is a pity for Nars because we have a shitload of disposable income between us.

^^ This. #Metoo - as in lots of disposable income not heading this way.
NiceGerbil · 05/10/2020 20:12

Even just the obviousness of naming something so the question, do you like deep throat, what do you think of deep throat. Innocent teen saying I like deep throat.

Reminds me of the sort of thing where a teen girl says I'm going to get a facial and all the boys start sniggering...

Anyway. Been to pub so probably a bit less comprehensible.

Oh yeah! The paperchase stationary range with peaches, aubergines on them. When fruit themes were all the rage for younger girls. I mean why? Why make stationary with imagery that means cock on it when you know it will be purchased unawares by 10yo girls!

Dunno. Really dunno. All very odd.

justasking111 · 08/10/2020 00:08

I have just seen their mascara called climax, in a sexually suggestive latex wand sleeve, this is how they describe it. ffs

"Uncensored. Unparalleled. Don't hold back. Climax reaches its peak with the most dramatic volume yet - in just one coat. New Loaded Pigment Complex and XXXL ribbed-bristle brush instantly creates explosive volume with latex-like black pigment from root to tip. Maximum volume. Minimum effort."

Do grow up Nars.

NiceGerbil · 08/10/2020 01:53

It's fucking mascara for god's sake.

Gloopy stuff you put on your eyelashes.

Talk about an oversell Grin

theyarereallytakingthepissnow · 08/10/2020 07:15

Depressing stuff. I don't wear much makeup but teenager does. Had no idea the branding of some of the products is so degrading and disempowering. These companies should show some respect to their customers.

Emmapeeler2 · 08/10/2020 08:45

That description for 'Climax' mascara is vomit inducing.

Totally depressing. I got a similar response from Nars about empowering women. I guess I am not their target market, and that young women whom they can persuade this is cool and edgy are. I won't be buying my female relatives Nars products. I otherwise might have based on good reviews of the actual blusher.

nitgel · 08/10/2020 08:48

i use deep throat, it's not as bright when you have it on. really lovely shade.

nitgel · 08/10/2020 08:49

i can't get worked up about their naming of products as they are bloody gorgeous.

nitgel · 08/10/2020 08:54

deep throat
noun
a person who anonymously supplies information about covert or illegal action in the organization where they work

TheQueef · 08/10/2020 09:00

Why are you attempting to justify the name nit?
If you are happy with the association (before Watergate was the film) and like being reminded about Linda Boremans rape and abuse then crack on and pay Nars £25 for them to insult you.

They don't have to call the blusher this but they are, because they can and it's your choice if it steers you away.

TheQueef · 08/10/2020 09:01

*The film was before Watergate
(Went a bit Yoda there)

Emmapeeler2 · 08/10/2020 09:02

Well nit if you want to believe that's what the name refers to that's up to you. Clearly lots of women don't mind - however I do on their behalf.

Emmapeeler2 · 08/10/2020 09:03

Went a bit Yoda there

Grin
nitgel · 08/10/2020 09:03

the recent film about her life is really good btw.

I just can't get worked up about this. sorry. but you can all 'crack on'

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/10/2020 09:04

but always to empower our consumers

Ah. They obviously use "empower" in the same way that people do who say that being raped for money is empowering Hmm

Emmapeeler2 · 08/10/2020 09:06

Thanks for your input nit. I will - thanks.

Suckmuckduck · 08/10/2020 09:13

What awful names. NARS is off my shopping list.

nitgel · 08/10/2020 09:24

my original input was to answer op btw.

I really don't understand where you have all been. These products have been around for 20 years or so.

HMSSophie · 08/10/2020 09:29

I don't use blusher but omg is there one called that? That's an absolute disgrace
