Orgasm or Deep Throat?

DesignerDesigner · 05/10/2020 07:54

Friend has asked for this for a present but she can't get to try. I've used both but actually gave away as they were too bright for me.

She' s very pale and had been using Sex Appeal but thinks it's too pale.

I know Hannah Martin loves Deep Throat for all skin tones (in her John Lewis Xmas box) but not sure.

The woman who starred in deep throat has since said that she was controlled, coerced, subjected to violence and threatened with a gun by the men she knew (her partner?) to do this and that what people saw as a risque hot sex film was rape.

Anyway.

I think I've got some orgasm downstairs that I got free but not used it yet. I don't think I could bring myself to buy something called deep throat tbh

This is what Nars said in reply...

Dear Mrs

We thank you for taking the time to contact us.

We would like to inform you that the names are inspired by classic films, travel, art, cuisine, culture, songs, people or simply a personal interpretation of the name. In addition to the richness of the shades, superior textures and high standard of quality, our names further enhance the creative expression of the brand.

With no intention to be literal references, NARS shade names are meant never to objectify but always to empower our consumers.

We remain at your disposal and wish you a pleasant day.

Yours sincerely,

Customer Relations

Emmapeeler2 · 05/10/2020 15:36

Deep throat not literal? Creative expression? Sure. Hmm

LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 05/10/2020 15:37

@JKRforPM

How utterly grim. Is this really what we want our daughters to grow up with ? The normalisation that women should be happy choking on cock?

This isn’t cool, it’s sexism at its very worst.

I heartily agree. It's beyond awful. Normalising something very disturbing. I can just imagine the marketing department (mainly men, perhaps??) chuckling at the thought of all the women talking about DT without a trace of irony. And it's worked.
TheQueef · 05/10/2020 15:40

Empowering?
My arse.

Prettybubblesintheair · 05/10/2020 15:47

@TheQueef

We shouldn't be paying £25+ for products aimed at women yet named after abuse/coercion or derogatory acts against women. They are spitting in our eye, it adds insult to injury.
This!
KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 05/10/2020 15:48

Kat Von D also had lipsticks called 'Underage Red' and 'Lolita'. Grim.

Emmapeeler2 · 05/10/2020 15:53

Kat Von D also had lipsticks called 'Underage Red' and 'Lolita'. Grim

That's truly grim.

justasking111 · 05/10/2020 15:55

Is there a difference between powder and liquid. I use liquid orgasm it is not too loud and can be worked in.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 05/10/2020 15:59

@KnightsofColumbusThatHurt

Kat Von D also had lipsticks called 'Underage Red' and 'Lolita'. Grim.
That’s disgusting

I had no idea this kind of naming was a thing in makeup Sad
(I don’t think I’ve bought so much as a lipstick since “Heather shimmer” was the in thingGrin)

TheQueef · 05/10/2020 16:05

Gaslight
Deep Throat
Lolita
Underage Red
Who gets a frisson or a tingle from any of those? That extra urge to buy?
no woman that's for sure

Aye same here Gibs the blue tinge in Heather was the end of my clown attempts Grin

NiceGerbil · 05/10/2020 16:17

They see deep throat as a classic film that they reference in makeup to empower their customers (mainly women).

Well that's us told.

NiceGerbil · 05/10/2020 16:17

Yay empowering!

'In her first two biographies, Linda Boreman characterized having made the film as a liberating experience; in her third and fourth biographies, both of which were written after she had come out with her stories of sexual abuse, rape, and forced prostitution in the porn business, she charged that she had not consented to many of the depicted sexual acts and that she had been coerced to perform by her abusive then-husband Chuck Traynor, who received $1,250 (equivalent to $8,000 today) for her acting. She also claimed that Traynor threatened to kill her, brandishing handguns and rifles to control her.

In 1986, she testified before the Meese Commission, "Virtually every time someone watches that movie, they're watching me being raped." In the Toronto Sun on March 20, 1981 she said, "It is a crime that movie is still showing; there was a gun to my head the entire time." While the other people present on the set did not support the gun charge, both Traynor and Damiano confirmed in interviews that Traynor was extremely controlling towards Boreman and also hit her on occasion. In the documentary Inside Deep Throat, it is claimed that bruises are visible on Boreman's body in the movie.'

AnaViaSalamanca · 05/10/2020 16:27

@DesignerDesigner does it have to be NARS? Hourglass blushers are much much better.

BlueCowWonders · 05/10/2020 16:35

@AnyFucker

It's possible to be so open minded your brains fall out.

This is a clear example.

I've never heard this expression before. I'll be using it often. Brilliant

Thank you @AnyFucker

Frappuccinofan · 05/10/2020 16:36

I have both, I have light skin however I’m not pale.

I can’t remember what Nars shade I am but I wear Hourglass shell and am a Mac NW18/NC20 (I think!!).

Deep throat is perfect, I don’t like orgasm as it’s much more pigmented and too shimmery for me. I think it looks nicest on people who are more tanned. Your friend would need to use a really light hand, so you may as well go for Deep Throat to save the faff as both shades are very similar.

Frappuccinofan · 05/10/2020 16:36

Yes, does it have to be Nars? Mac has lots of options too

BikeTyson · 05/10/2020 16:38

I really hate the name of it but it is a lovely blusher! I’m pale (although dark hair rather than reddish) and it’s much more flattering on me than Orgasm.

If anyone is cool toned, Gaiety is surprisingly flattering. It looks bright pink in the pan but is very sheer on application.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 05/10/2020 16:38

The orgasm liquid is different from the powder as it doesn't have the sparkle.

I agree that Hourglass blushers are better. My favourite is mood exposure (which I presume is an acceptable name for a blusher?)

Using deliberately provocative manes for things is an excellent marketing strategy.
Don't you think? Wink

justasking111 · 05/10/2020 16:39

Is there a film called Orgasm outside the porn market. I could not bring myself to buy something called deep throat though.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 05/10/2020 16:40

I could not bring myself to buy something called deep throat though.

Don't worry, you don't have to.

BabyItsAWildWorld · 05/10/2020 16:42

Yes, calling other people stupid, always wins you the argument.
Use it lots.

AnyFucker · 05/10/2020 16:46

With no intention to be literal references, NARS shade names are meant never to objectify but always to empower our consumers

I am not their demographic so I expect Nars won't give a shit but they should. This crap isn't "empowering" unless you think porn and prostitution bigs up women.

So I won't be buying and I will be discussing it with female friends/family of all ages. Which is a pity for Nars because we have a shitload of disposable income between us.

AnyFucker · 05/10/2020 16:54

@BlueCowWonders you are welcome. It's not my own work, I nicked it from somewhere else. Gets the message across well, I feel.

I don't have a problem with pointing out ignorance. Many people just go along with this bollocks without acknowledging the implications. Attaching names that signify the abuse of women to daily articles eg makeup normalises the language of it.

It's not ok and it's not harmless
