With 'old lady' not being an offensive term, but rather referring to women with knowledge, refined taste and other positive qualities

Show off your pretty things and link to dresses, slips, twinsets, pearls, stockings, big knickers, cross your heart bras, prestige scents, retro style makeup, soap and everything else in between

@ppeatfruit

Is the Pashley stiuff made in China? I have an old lady intolerance to anything that is made there Grin

Pashley bicycles are handmade in Warwickshire
The Pashley blazer, belt and scarf are made in Britain
The Pashley merino items are made in New Zealand

@Mominatrix

I am surprised I missed the first thread. I love old fashioned looks, pearls, and have never been much of a jeans wearer. I prefer dresses to trousers as they really are more comfortable and I feel that I can more more easily.

I love watching the Marvelous Mrs Maisel, not just for the great scripts and acting, but for the clothes. I have a vintage lace 50s New Look style dress which I pull out for special occasions and it always gets loads of compliments and the styles on the show always remind me of that dress.

One of my favourite scents for summer is L'Eau Fraiche by Christian Dior. It is not one of the famous ones and was created by M Dior for himself. It is, however, unisex and smells like just getting out of the shower if you have used verbena soap.

Is it this one(?) :

Keep meaning to watch The Marvelous Mrs Maisel (and the clothes look good in the trailers!).

@thisenglishlife: yes, that is the one. It is a very light, citrusy scent.

Thanks for the update @thisenglishlife on Pashley merino.
I used to like o de lancome, that was lemony .

That sounds brilliant, about the bikes esp. Thanks thisenglish .

The other good thing about Pashley bikes is that they have Brooks saddles (although secure it on - as they get stolen!).

Do they have thick "mountain bike tyres" I have to have them here or it's a puncture every time I go out !

@ppeatfruit no nothing at all wrong with being a real old lady, just wasn’t sure if I was too young to joinGrin. I don’t get to say that often. Lol!

I love Eau Sauvage by CD for DH. But prefer Armani pour homme which is also lemony but with a warmer soapier vibe. Perfume Parlour do a great dupe for very little spends.
My DM wore Rive Gauche and a colleague sometimes wears it and it takes me right back to Mum’s 70s bedroom. She also wore Je Rivien and Ma Griffe . The smells of my childhood.

No, more for country lanes etc. I’ve got a mountain bike too but it’s not nearly so pretty!

I received my Penhaligon's order today, it comes wrapped in beautifully illustrated tissue paper.

The scent is: lush nectarine, green foliage, green apple, lily of the valley, jasmine tea, violet, creamy vanilla, oak moss, sandalwood, musk, amber and caramel

Very nice, but I wouldn't pay full price (it was £60 off) as the sillage is very minimal. A very dressing table worthy bottle though.

Oh that looks beautiful english.

Over the weekend I ordered a few treats from Estée Lauder, which is a bit old lady-ish I suppose. I wanted a new lipstick (I love proper lipstick in a lovely glamorous tube - not horrible gloopy lip glosses). I ordered Pure Colour Envy in a shade called LA Noir.

I also decided to order a perfume for autumn/winter, and felt in the mood for something that reminds me of my DM, so chose a bottle of Cinnabar.

I much prefer Penhaligon’s stronger scents,Cairo and Halfeti Are so unusual but really nice.

Those of you who are after old fashioned cotton nightgowns/dresses. cologne&cotton do carry a good selection.

lilgreen You're never too young to be sensible. though it's not so usual Grin And sometimes old people are not so sensible!!

IMO and E it's quite possible to be "old' in a sad boring way when you're young and feel, and seem, young and sprightly (though nor OTT) when you're getting on a bit!

I'm reading the ebook version* of Pretty Iconic by Sali Hughes and it is about classic (old and future) beauty products. I thought posters here might be interested in this bit about Youth Dew perfume.

Had my roots done last night so no more greys! Not quite ready for that part of old lady style and not sure I’ll ever be. My DM was blonde until the day she left us and I intend to follow. Wink

Some lovely stuff on QofF's link. Why do people think women only want white or pale colours though? It's all obviously designed by people who have never had a period or eaten a doughnut in bed.

Ref. being blonde Iam a natural blonde (I went mousey later) . Now with the grey\mouseyness I have blended the blonde quite effectively ! I do it myself with an almost natural french colour.

Oh I use a great SPF 25 solid powder for my face by a new make up company called Inika from some HF shops.
