Is this look too young for me?

A friend commented that stitching down the side of trousers is a youth trend and she sneered at these trousers on a shopping trip. I work from home and always dress casually (am 48) - I loved the way they look but obviously they are expensive and what she said has me worried about buying them and then not wearing them because of what she said. Are they a bit try hard?

OP posts:

I'd wear them, I bought something similar recently. I'm a few years older than you Smile

FloraGreysteel · 23/01/2020 14:21

I think you'd look very cool. With your stats, and styled like that pic, I can't see why she's moaning.

oohnicevase · 23/01/2020 15:32

I'd wear them and I'm short and curvy .. life is too short to care what other people think 🤷‍♀️

Ginkypig · 23/01/2020 21:41

I missed the bloody pic!!!!

BlueBooby · 23/01/2020 21:44

Those are way out of my budget but if they weren't I'd wear them and I'm 32. I don't think they'd look out of place on a woman in her 40s or older.

FlorenceLyons · 24/01/2020 08:40

I'm intrigued, MrsDoubtTired. What style of boots do you think us 40-somethings should be wearing?

CountFosco · 24/01/2020 18:16

What style of boots do you think us 40-somethings should be wearing?

'Mum' boots obviously Grin. Not that anyone on here can ever agree on what so-called 'Mum boots' actually look like.

Almahart · 24/01/2020 18:21

I absolutely love them! Just as well they’re sold out cos I couldnt justify buying them

LilyJade · 24/01/2020 18:33

I like the OPs joggers & the boots I'd wear both & im 43.

However I went to do my Tesco shop & they had a sale on & I picked up a pair of black cuffed joggers with side stripes... £4!!!!

I will wear them round the house, & er, over to Tesco...
Because basically they are comfy & cute but not as smart & posh as yours OP! But not bad for just £4 & made me happy.

TheFormidableMrsC · 02/02/2020 10:18

Christ alive, people come out with some rubbish. Wear what you like. I'd wear those. I also quite like a side stripe and have several pairs in a similar style. I'm 50 and still running around with a small DS and have absolutely no qualms about wearing anything "current". My 21 year old fashion student DD would absolutely tell me otherwise. She thinks I'm "quite cool for an oldie" Grin. I think your friend is jealous of your style. Honestly, take no notice.

JFM27 · 02/02/2020 14:32

Ignore her.Im way older than you and ive a similar navy pair more jeggings than joggers but they have a nude burgandy stripe.I wear biker jackets, pleather trousers and leggings, biker boots and snakeskin boots.etc I intend to go on dressing this way and to hell with anyone who thinks im too old.Im still slim, and i dye my hair red and its longish all supposedly wrong for woman of my great agelol.Where does this mad idea that once a woman passes her 40th birthday she needs to start dressing like an elderly women. At 40,50,60,70 80 whatever, dress as you damm well like.

goose1964 · 02/02/2020 14:37

I'm lost 50 and I have a pair with stores down the side. I kind of agree that you should not worry about whether clothes are too young/ old but I suspect there are not many women at my age that could pull off a crop top / mini skirt combo.

EdinaMonsoon · 02/02/2020 15:56

OP, I hope by now you are convinced that you can wear whatever you love, whatever your age.

I find this thread title so depressing. I’m a womenswear designer. I’m often asked who/what age my designs are aimed at & I always answer “any woman who loves them”. I am late 40’s and I will wear what I damn well please, without permission from societal misconceptions of “appropriateness”. And I would give that advice to ALL women, from teens upwards!

CallmeBadJanet · 02/02/2020 17:50

They’re great. You’re friend is boring. Don’t like the price though!

Mick15 · 02/02/2020 19:07

Thank you so much for introducing me to Me&em. I used to love Mint Velvet and before that Karen Millen but now find the quality of KM is poor and some MV is a bit frumpy. Me&em looks great and I’m looking forward to receiving my order. Any other recommendations for good quality, trendy shops for over 40s who don’t want to look like their mother??

SurpriseSparDay · 02/02/2020 19:25

I’m way older than you, OP - and find Me&Em a bit ‘safe’. Grin Not a brand I’d generally consider, though the things are perfectly nice. And the trousers you show would surely suit any age or shape? What’s the issue?

Also have some lookalike boots, but chunkier and less naice.

SurpriseSparDay · 02/02/2020 19:29

(Sorry, meant the boots in the Me&Em photo - was too late to see yours. But I’m sure you look great!)

angelfacecuti75 · 02/02/2020 21:53

Wear what makes you feel good and sod the rest. I would buy cheaper ones you can get them everywhere...

angelfacecuti75 · 02/02/2020 21:55

Bett lynch =mutton dressed as lamb
...imho joggers don't fit that stereotype....

Jojo2wyatr · 02/02/2020 21:58

You rock, OP! Just be aware that you might attract wolf-whistles from young chaps whilst walking down the streetGrin🤣
I have almost waist length blonde hair and I get honks from young chaps all the time! As they get closer to me so that they can see my face we both burst out laughing as I'm in my 50'sWink

Jojo2wyatr · 02/02/2020 22:01

And, hence, that's why there are a lot of us on MN who are of the age for GN but are still very young at heart

Sunbeam18 · 02/02/2020 22:10

I like these and would wear them, I'm
47

Ohduckie · 03/02/2020 22:00

Stuff your 'friend' she's clearly jealous.

cansu · 03/02/2020 22:08

I don't think you should worry about whether they are suitable for your age as such but.. I think they are basically ordinary brown joggers and don't look worth 90.00!

Purplealienpuke · 04/02/2020 09:18

I didn't see the picture.
If YOU like it what does anyone else's opinion matter??
I give zero fucks what others think of my skinny jeans and doc martens. Its part of me. 😊
