Is this look too young for me?

A friend commented that stitching down the side of trousers is a youth trend and she sneered at these trousers on a shopping trip. I work from home and always dress casually (am 48) - I loved the way they look but obviously they are expensive and what she said has me worried about buying them and then not wearing them because of what she said. Are they a bit try hard?

That side stitching is going to date so quickly. I sometimes see a pair and think they're cute, but I wouldn't spend significant money of them as they're not going to have the longevity to be an investment piece.

MrsDrudge · 22/01/2020 20:54

I’m - ahem - 61 and i’d wear them! (I hope this hasn’t put you off). Go for it and take no notice of your “friend”.

Supersimkin2 · 23/01/2020 01:23

No. Your friend is dowdy.

Ginkypig · 23/01/2020 01:52

I like them but I'm too fat for them! My opinion is people should whatever the hell they like. Some of my favourite people Iv seen are the Ines who dress in a unique way or make fashion choices that aren't the expected choice!

I don't know if I'd pay that much for joggers though even if they are nice ones!

Oh and post a pic please I really would like to see them on someone real rather than a model.

noodlezoodle · 23/01/2020 02:22

That sounds like a very stylish outfit and you are definitely not too old. Would also like to see a pic!

JaceLancs · 23/01/2020 11:10

I wouldn’t wear them but not down to age (55) just not my style
One of my best friends is 62 and has a similar pair they look fab on her

mencken · 23/01/2020 11:14

as long as it doesn't involve hair in bunches and clothing emblazoned with Frozen/Peppa Pig/My Little Pony etc, no look is 'too young' for anyone.

expensive for what looks like market-stall trackies in my opinion, and too short for the extremely unhappy-looking model, but not an age thing.

ilovecherries · 23/01/2020 11:15

I have these. I wear them with a black roll neck, leather biker and trainers. I’m 62. Shoot me now.

MaxAmount · 23/01/2020 12:36

Here's a pic - go easy on me please. Smile

I love them - you look fantastic OP, love them with the boots.

MrsDoubtTried · 23/01/2020 13:15

Knowing your age - and perhaps that is why - I wince a bit. The boots are too try-hard, too.

Ilovewillow · 23/01/2020 13:15

I'm 47 and have these, also have the boots (or similar - Hudson) - definitely not too old - they are super comfy and fab as well. I love Me&Em - preferably sales shopping though!

MaxAmount · 23/01/2020 13:19

The boots are too try-hard, too. The boots are very me - they are most definitely staying. Grin

I think you look great and have great boots on. I’d say quite sexy rather than try hard.

MaxAmount · 23/01/2020 13:31

I’d say quite sexy rather than try hard 😂 sexy is not something I've ever aimed for, I'll take it though! Thank you! Grin

OP posts:
Ninkanink · 23/01/2020 13:34

The boots are not try-hard if they’re authentic to the person wearing them!

I think it looks good and most importantly if you feel great that’s what’s actually important.

Floisme · 23/01/2020 13:37

I'm wearing boots like that today and I'm 63. In a few years time I may think back and think they were cool or maybe I'll decide looked an arse. So what? For me clothes are about fun and self expression and cannot be enjoyed without making mistakes sometimes.

What I won't worry about is whether I look 'try-hard'. That's a very telling kind of put down that I only ever see used on here about middle aged women who have the temerity to enjoy fashion.

Floisme · 23/01/2020 13:39

Great pic op. Those trousers would not be kind to my arse - I'm very jealous.

MaudesMum · 23/01/2020 13:41

That's a great look! Going back to an earlier poster, and trends coming around again and again, I'm 58 and totally embracing the hiking boots with floaty skirts/dresses look at the moment. I have a feeling it might be the third time for me..

HepburnKNotA · 23/01/2020 13:43

Fabulous look on you OP, you look terrific

Ohyesiam · 23/01/2020 13:47

Op you look HOT!
Great figure.

Ohyesiam · 23/01/2020 13:50

@MrsDoubtTried out of interest, what would you style the op in?

Elbeagle · 23/01/2020 13:53

The boots are too try-hard, too

Trying hard to be what? Confused

OP I’m 35 and not cool or confident enough to wear that outfit. You look great and I’m envious!

MrsDoubtTried · 23/01/2020 14:01

Young?

MrsDoubtTried · 23/01/2020 14:03

Re styling:

The OP? Difficult to decide because the face and hair are hidden.
