Is this look too young for me?

A friend commented that stitching down the side of trousers is a youth trend and she sneered at these trousers on a shopping trip. I work from home and always dress casually (am 48) - I loved the way they look but obviously they are expensive and what she said has me worried about buying them and then not wearing them because of what she said. Are they a bit try hard?

I have ordered them and they are arriving this morning!

Oh good, let us know if you like them! Dressing casually (intentionally) can be very youthful IMO.

Theroigne · 22/01/2020 08:38

Yay, hope you’re happy with them! I’d wear them, I think they’re great.

Reginabambina · 22/01/2020 08:38

That’s loungewear. If you’re wearing it in the house then there’s no issue (quite chic actually) but only teenagers make the mistake of wearing loungewear out doors.

AnuvvaMuvva · 22/01/2020 08:38

They're gorgeous.

I'm 48 and struggling with the "if you wore it first time around, you're too old to wear it second time around" fashion mantra at the moment. Side-stripes, army boots with floaty floral dresses, high-waisted jeans - I wore all of them when I was a teenager in the 80s.

I have a work thing today and my usual wardrobe of black skinny jeans tucked into long black boots with a nice shirt suddenly feels SO DATED. All my dresses are knee-length and fitted. I suddenly feel I have absolutely nothing fashionable in my wardrobe at all.

trinity0097 · 22/01/2020 08:41

Personally I think they’d look awful on anyone of any age, unless being worn as PJs

smemorata · 22/01/2020 08:41

I love them but what do I know-? My dd told me off for wearing an above the knee skirt today!

NiteFlights · 22/01/2020 08:42

Sorry, that sounded mental. I mean dressing casually in a good way gives you a young vibe. You won’t be MDAL (a phrase MN rightly abhors), you’ll just look relaxed and casual.

Greyhound22 · 22/01/2020 08:44

They're absolutely fine. Quite like them.

Being Me&Em and at that price they're not aimed at a younger market anyway.

CaMePlaitPas · 22/01/2020 08:58

Is this a joke? Of course you're not too old for joggers! And at £90 a pop too. I'm sure you'll look great, and if you love them then why not?!

CaMePlaitPas · 22/01/2020 08:58

Oops just saw your update - enjoy them OP!

Cheeseandwin5 · 22/01/2020 09:20

If you like it , than wear it.
Life is to short to be governed by other peoples attitudes.

SpamChaudFroid · 22/01/2020 09:46

Definitely not - I'm 48 and live in joggers and sweatshirts from Hush and Me&Em. I have earned my right to be comfy and refuse to wear anything else! Grin

I just bought a dress from Me&Em after following your link.

Ninkanink · 22/01/2020 09:52

Wear whatever the hell you like as long as you feel good in it, that it suits you and looks the way you want it to look.

I know a woman of 55+ who wears trousers like that and looks great in them.

Ninkanink · 22/01/2020 09:53

Oh good I’m glad to see your update.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 22/01/2020 09:54

Gutted I missed these in my size, I love them.
I'm 38 and happily wearing joggers/combats and big military boots at the moment. Bollocks to what is age-appropriate.

Mischance · 22/01/2020 09:55

Some friend! Ditch her!

Mind you, nothing on earth would persuade me to spend that sort of money on glorified joggers!!!

MaxAmount · 22/01/2020 09:58

Well - they have just arrived and I love them!!! Styled with a black cashmere polo neck and a pair of Grenson Nanettes they feel great - comfortable and smart enough to detour into the pub at the end of a dog walk. @SandrasAnnoyingFriend I added my email to the notify me when a size comes in list. I'll be returning the size 14 - they are too big and I'll be keeping (and wearing proudly and happily) the size 12.

Thanks all!

Sounds fab!

@AnuvvaMuvva that mantra is ageist, misogynist, prescriptive nonsense, so I suggest you disregard entirely.

MrsDoubtTried · 22/01/2020 11:12

A bit, to be honest.

justilou1 · 22/01/2020 12:08

Really? Aren’t those days over? Fuck that! Does it spark joy! Wear the fucking clothes.

I'm wearing gym leggings with stripes down the sides because they make me look slimmer.

I like the style of the me&em joggers, I'm 43 but don't have a teenager / conservative friend to tell me what not to wear....

MoltonSilver · 22/01/2020 12:48

It sounds like a lovely outfit. No need to doubt yourself. You know what suits you.

Bouledeneige · 22/01/2020 13:07

Love them. Your friend is a bit dull.

Bouledeneige · 22/01/2020 13:08

By the way I'm 55 and I would wear them.
