Not such an amazing dress. Or is it? Should I get the skirt?

Thanks to @posterRemusLupinsBiggestGroupie amazing dress thread, and a birthday meal out where my standby Hush Tara dress made me feel dull rather than special, I have decided I need a new "going out" outfit. So the odd trip for a meal/cocktails/the pub with friends which require more than jeans and a jumper (my normal wear) but nothing totally smart.

Stuff has arrived and I have been trying on - but I go style-blind when looking in the mirror- especially if outside of my comfort zone jeans and a jumper

So please will you cast your much better eyes over the attached. Ignoring the fluffy hair and duff photo abilities..

I am not convinced by the dress. All Saints here: www.allsaints.com/women/dresses/allsaints-nichola-rosalyn-dres/?colour=162&category=15296.

On me? Less boho-chic and more wide-screen flower bed? Am not sure.

It is very floaty and light..

I tried that on yesterday. I think it's one that looks better on the hanger but doesn't quite work,

You have a cracking figure but I would keep looking.

ChopOrNot · 09/01/2020 15:46

Then I also ordered this. Looks far nicer in real life - the sparkles are subtle but just not showing up on the photo.

To wear with it I also tried a leather skirt and some pleather trousers. I shall attach photos of both. I am 48, grey and do not want to look like I am trying too hard...so honest opinions on these would be gratefully received.

Oh and both of the above (trousers/skirt) have shirt tucked in on one and out on the other as I am not sure which looks best.

I like the leather skirt with tights best.
Your hair is lovely!

GiveHerHellFromUs · 09/01/2020 15:51

I think the dress is just too big.

I like the trousers but not the skirt.
You rock it tucked in and out with the trousers x

ChopOrNot · 09/01/2020 15:52

I agree the dress is a no. I have broad shoulders (my widest part to be honest) and so it doesn't just hang from them it "pouffs" out - making me look like a walking 1970s sofa. It is so pretty though.

I needed to come and check with neutral/expert eyes though as I am so fashion-backward that it can take me a while several years to get used to new fashion shapes/styles. I was one of those shaking my head at skinny jeans for quite some time Grin

That dress is all wrong, doesn't flatter your figure at all, I don't like the sleeves and the length is wrong on you.

I do like the shirt tucked into the leather skirt.

museumum · 09/01/2020 15:53

I think the shirt and trousers but not the dress or the skirt. Dress is a bit voluminous.

CoffeeConnoiseur · 09/01/2020 15:56

Tucked into the skirt is the only one that shows you have a waist! The shirt half tucked or loose just hangs from your shoulders and makes your top half look very straight up and down.

Xiaoxiong · 09/01/2020 16:01

Tucked into the skirt looks FAB. The best of all the looks by a country mile!!

Hoppinggreen · 09/01/2020 16:02

The dress swamps you
I love your hair by the way

GiveHerHellFromUs · 09/01/2020 16:05

I'm warming to the skirt too but not with the tights

BaronessBomburst · 09/01/2020 16:06

Shirt tucked into skirt is my favourite my far. Wear it with heels and you'll look fab. Smile

Ihaveamind · 09/01/2020 16:10

Shirt tucked into skirt is the best look.
You do have gorgeous hair!

ChopOrNot · 09/01/2020 16:10

I want to get the skirt just because it smells soooo lovely .

I wouldn't wear the tights with the skirt - all too black. Though I would wear natural ones (again - the white legs are just tooo much).

I have just ordered the smaller size 8 skirt as this one was actually quite roomy. I felt quite "parsnip-legs" and wrinkly legged with the trousers - but there are other options pleather trousers wise.

If you've get the skirt and some different trousers you've got two different outfits - bonus!

NeverTwerkNaked · 09/01/2020 16:13

You have a waist! V envious, you have a great figure. The shirt tucked in looks great

Bubbinsmakesthree · 09/01/2020 16:13

TBH I don’t even think that dress flatters the model. The length and style doesn’t feel very current, and I’ve never been a fan of asymmetric or irregular hemlines unless they’re the dominant feature of the item - there’s just too much going on here.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 09/01/2020 16:14

I think skirt + tucked in shirt + tights would be a winning look.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 09/01/2020 16:16

@Bubbinsmakesthree I think pleather skirts look weird with black tights

ReginaGeorgeous · 09/01/2020 16:16

Tucked into the skirt looks lovely.
I like sniffing leather too

CoffeeConnoiseur · 09/01/2020 16:18

Where's the leather skirt from, I want one now.
