These M&S boots?

I can't decide if these are stylish or not? I am a pretty young looking 39 year old, and want something I can wear with skinny jeans and skirts for smart casual at work and at the weekend. I am specifically looking for non-leather boots so these got a tick.

OP posts:

I've just bought some chelsea boots in M&S - they are just for work & were cheap.

This is why I often find M&S misses the mark. They try to do on trend but in a safe way so the styling is a bit off

This a million times. They M&S it. Whatever trend there is, they change it in some inexplicable way thereby rendering said shoe/boot/garment unappealing to all tastes. Consistently.

springcomeround · 14/11/2019 11:14

I don’t think they quite work - but I can’t work out why

suzy2b · 14/11/2019 11:15

ankle boots look stupid with skirts

ageingdisgracefully · 14/11/2019 11:16

I also think they are a bit - bleurgh.

Something about the heel. Not high, not low.

Maybe better in red?

MrsPepGuardiola1971 · 14/11/2019 11:31

I think they are fine , something I would go for because they have to be comfy , nice heel too , if you like them then you wear them , they'll be fab with skinny Jean's, leggings or dresses and skirts , bang on trend 😊

ThePestoTwins · 14/11/2019 11:36

They M&S it
This, they add, change, embellish things and spoil them
Also, this is my new favourite saying

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 14/11/2019 11:37

People are complaining that they are soulless but I'm more concerned that they look 'soleless' - ie lacking in the suspension department.

They don't look soulless to me though, just low-key and likely to match a number of outfits.

So absolutely fine if you're not planning to go for a yomp in the hills in them.

sunshinesupermum · 14/11/2019 11:37

I've definitely discounted the M&S ones and am tempted by the chunkier New Look ones.

The New look ones are too clunky to wear with skirts. The M&S ones might be bland but they go with everything. (and frankly boycotting M&S for a pair of boots is OTT imo)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/11/2019 11:41

I have a pair of flat Chelsea Boots from M&S (vegan) that are going into their 2nd winter , I wear them loads and I plan to re-buy (maybe in another colour too)

The ones in the first post have a weird looking heel and a seam in the upper that would irritate me .

New Look ones aren't brilliant , I know DD has bought in the past , they didn't last .

I have bought vegan knee length boots ( with a 20% off ) just waiting to wear them now Grin

Shuckle · 14/11/2019 11:43

I buy all my boots from Rocketdog, have you tried there? Pair of ankle boots not too dissimilar to those I have been wearing to death for three years now and they are still in great shape. And they have lovely thick grippy soles. They have a little bit of "detail" to make them not so plain, my current ones have little fringes on and I adore them. I am 24 and would like to think I'm reasonably fashionable - not sure other people night agree though 😁

gingersausage · 14/11/2019 11:51

Why is “frumpy” suddenly the buzzword? It’s not like the OP is asking for opinions on a pair of turd brown Velcro fastening fur-lined Nanna-slippers for gods sake 🙄.

JFM27 · 14/11/2019 11:53

I mostly always buy my boots from M&S but i tend to go for the trendier looking ones.ive a pair from two years ago with perspex heels and a chelsea pair with lizard print heels. And last year had a red shiny pair, they were not leather think others were. But my black biker boots i got last year, they have similar this were not leather povair i think not sure of spelling, very lightweight. And this year got snake print ones very unboring but were leather.I live near city store who do have most of their range, but ive always found their boots great, insolia makes them very comfy, but though would never wear real fur,i do leather. The ones you considered are similar style to my chelsea ones but perhaps the lizard print heel makes mine more stylish, this year though havent seen any similar.

babyburrito1 · 14/11/2019 12:00

I bought a pair from TU recently which were marketed as 'vegan' and made from recycled plastic bottles. I feel very virtuous in them and think they don't look too bad either although I'm sure they would be classed as frumpy according to MN. I mainly wear them with rolled up jeans but have also worn with dresses and tights.

separatebeds · 14/11/2019 12:36

M&S ones are more stylish than the new look ones - I think they would look good with skinny jeans and skirts. New look ones look like something a young teen would wear. Nothing smart about them at all.

airedailleurs · 14/11/2019 12:40

@floraloctopus yes that is the look (I wear it myself!) but those boots aren't right for it IMHO...

ginghamtablecloths · 14/11/2019 13:06

Don't worry if they're stylish - if items are the height of fashion they soon go out of fashion.

Do they fit properly? Are they comfortable? Do they co-ordinate with the rest of your wardrobe? Will you wear them?

If the answer is yes to these questions then buy them and enjoy wearing them.

user12345796 · 14/11/2019 13:18

I thought we were boycotting M&S?

PurpleDaisies · 14/11/2019 13:19

I thought we were boycotting M&S?

“We” aren’t a hive mind.

Liedownsnikey1965 · 14/11/2019 13:40

Definately depends on your age,,im a young 54 yr old and I think the m n s ones are fine theyre just black ankle boots,, which are fine ,they go with skinnies etc,the New look ones are awful but thats my old age opinion lol x

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 14/11/2019 13:44

I'm not keen on the M&S block heel (or the mixed sex changing rooms).

What about these www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/317/3230806871

Kaykay06 · 14/11/2019 13:52

Oasis do some really nice boots I have a few pairs, I’m 40 and I prob wouldn’t look in M&S tbh and wouldn’t wear those boots.

SirVixofVixHall · 14/11/2019 13:56

I am not buying anything from Marks while they have a policy of mixed sex changing rooms.
But aside from that, I agree with pps, that the heel is a bit of a clunky shape.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 14/11/2019 14:01

Vegan boots should save you from yourself and make a loud, warning whooping sound if you approach the threshold of McDonalds and refuse to lift up off the pavement and let you go in.

If they don't do that, I wouldn't bother with them.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 14/11/2019 14:11

@PurpleDaisies do you have the DM flora? I keep umming and ahhing about them myself in burgundy. What's the sizing like? (Sorry to thread hijack)
