These M&S boots?

I can't decide if these are stylish or not? I am a pretty young looking 39 year old, and want something I can wear with skinny jeans and skirts for smart casual at work and at the weekend. I am specifically looking for non-leather boots so these got a tick.

I just bought a few pairs of boots in the Shoeaholics sale - if you use code MSE30 it's an extra 30% off. There are loads in a 4.5 much nicer than those M&S ones

PurpleDaisies · 14/11/2019 09:08

Dr Martens vegan flora.

Samosaurus · 14/11/2019 09:08

They look very old fashioned. Like something that a member of a girl band would have worn in the 1990's. Have you had a look at Moshulu?

TatianaLarina · 14/11/2019 09:08

I don’t either kind of ankle boots work with skirts so I’d just wear then with trousers myself.

They both look cheap and uncomfortable if you want an honest opinion.

CJsGoldfish · 14/11/2019 09:09

I quite like them OP. Smile

echt · 14/11/2019 09:11

It's probably because I' m 65 and wore block heels the first time round but they are ugly.

I wouldn't be caught dead in them

Sorry.

Zelda93 · 14/11/2019 09:11

NEXT usually have some nice ankle boots and they do a comfy fit which means you can get a higher heel!

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 14/11/2019 09:21

I bought the knee high version of those New Look boots OP and they haven't lasted me three weeks. It's a false economy buying from there I think :(

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 14/11/2019 09:23

I wouldn't wear the New Look ones with a skirt, no chance!

I do like a chelsea boot myself but I infinitely prefer them with a sharp pointed toe, which (luckily for me) is coming back into fashion again. I have trouble finding the ones I really like in my size, always have done since I was a teen (Euro 41 -42, most only go up to a 40) but sometimes I get lucky.

The ones I bought recently were fairly pointy though - I can't stand the rounded toe (mum boot) look as I have such big feet - the point offsets the size - and square toes would be even worse!
You don't have that issue because you have small feet. But I still wouldn't wear those chunky ones with a skirt.

hotcrossbun4321 · 14/11/2019 09:26

I saw a very stylish early 20s lady trying them on in store and thought they looked great actually! And she was beautifully turned out, not frumpy!

I have these from Amazon and love them. It says the top is Leather/Other which I can't figure out means if it's man made leather though!

airedailleurs · 14/11/2019 09:39

The heel shape is a bit odd. I know the look you are going for and don't think these boots are right.

Do you have a Deichmann shop near you? They have an amazing range of ankle boots in non-leather and mostly cheaper than £35.

PocketDictionary · 14/11/2019 09:43

These have a bit more about them & are a bargain price.

This is why I often find M&S misses the mark. They try to do on trend but in a safe way so the styling is a bit off. The New Look ones are nicer but no idea re quality. Try Topshop?

floraloctopus · 14/11/2019 09:57

Perfect teacher boots! (I see a lot of teachers wearing them with opaque tights and a boden dress)

MeTheCoolOne · 14/11/2019 09:58

They are all nice enough. I would chose the marks ones over the new look ones as they will be more comfortable 😅

Boofybear1 · 14/11/2019 10:00

I think they look a bit "safe". Have a look on asos or river island Smile

ThePestoTwins · 14/11/2019 10:26

Like most things at Marks and Spencer, they’re not quite right.
The styling always seems to miss the mark. That’s why they just don’t get my money days.
You could find much nicer.

flobonobo · 14/11/2019 10:37

Hudson do lovely boots though all leather.

BC footwear are vegan - They sell on amazon. The ‘unify’ boot maybe an option?

tillytrotter1 · 14/11/2019 10:38

As a matter if unterest is there anywhere/anything that shouldn't be boycotted for some spurious reason, according to MN?

As for the boots, I'm 71 and wouldn't wear them, too square round the toe. I recall a Victoria Wood sketch where she said she knew she was old when she saw a pair of shoes in the Scholl shop and thought, Oh, they look comfortable!

Whitecandle · 14/11/2019 10:40

I'm 23 and would definitely wear them with skinny jeans!!

Might even buy them lol

shearwater · 14/11/2019 10:45

They are really good, you will get loads of wear out of them with trousers and dresses. There is no "appropriate age group" for shoes. I would buy them if I didn't have something from Sainsbury's last year (with a zip instead of elastic and a little tassle).

No use asking on here, you will not get a definitive opinion. The only relevant opinion is your own.

Uncompromisingwoman · 14/11/2019 11:00

OP,
I bought some of these online a couple of weeks ago and promptly returned them - they were horrible both in terms of looks, comfort and fit. Unusual as until now I've been a fan of their ankle boots.

However, since their "any man who fancies going in the women's changing rooms is welcome " debacle I've cancelled my M & S account and have just found some lovely boots in TKMaxx.

Supersimkin2 · 14/11/2019 11:09

I'm a terrifying clothes snob and I'd wear these. Square toe is v next season.

manicmij · 14/11/2019 11:09

Will your choices be life threatening? It's only a pair of boots for goodnes sake. . If you like them, get them. Says a lot that people actually look and judge others' choice of boots. Thought we were in the live and let live, stop being judgemental era.
