I can't decide if these are stylish or not? I am a pretty young looking 39 year old, and want something I can wear with skinny jeans and skirts for smart casual at work and at the weekend. I am specifically looking for non-leather boots so these got a tick.

Me too! I had a pair of boots with heels like that in the early 70s. Wore them to school.

The heel shape is spot on for this winter. Just look in the better fashion magazines: splay heel ankle boots and long boots are everywhere!! My older DD (27) has a dark maroon long pair with higher heels but of a similar shape - she knows about trends. Some of the current boots have very chunky splayed heels. I would think they are quite comfortable.

The other trend is short lace up boots. These go with skinny jeans or midi dresses. Biker boots are ok but not really 2019 if you want to be spot on. More of a comfort boot that has been done to death really. Hanging on in there from the 00ies.

The M&S ones are ok. Vegan doesn’t do it for me as I like shoes that breathe. The shape is good though for jeans but they are too gappy for midi dresses. Arket have the perfect boot range including lace up ankle boots but they are leather. You might find similar in faux leather somewhere!

Have attached Louboutin and Proenza Schouler offerings re this style. Alternatively, luxe hiking boots are everywhere!

I'm converting these from M&S, but no money at the moment.

I bought their navy, suede brogue boots last year and still really love them.

*coveting!

MikeUniformMike · 15/11/2019 09:43

Those are nice CallarMorvern. I can see why you covet them.

I like animals to breathe too.
There is nothing wrong with the Vegan material and TBH most leather is so treated it is occlusive
And I;m an NHS Podiatrist so I do know.

OP there're fine if you don't want to make any kind of statement, and looking for a very safe option. I agree something not quite right about them (trying to avoid the word 'frumpy').

I tried these exact ones on in M&S last weekend, but they weren't even very comfortable - soles were too rigid and thin.

I ended up getting some from Dune instead - they've got some lovely boots atm.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/11/2019 10:32

Maybe they need to start selling those fetish shoes with the spike heels, given their target market.

HebeMumsnet · 15/11/2019 11:43

Morning, everyone.

We've just wanted to poke our heads in the door to say that we've had several reports on this and another thread about an M&S product saying that the threads were being derailed and the OPs accused of not posting here genuinely. We want to make clear that we can't see any evidence that the OP here is not genuine.

We'd also be grateful if threads like this one weren't derailed. There are lots of threads already running about the issue of changing rooms at M&S. It seems unfair on other posters to derail threads that aren't about that issue.

Thanks.

Ness1234 · 15/11/2019 11:55

It does seem such a coincidence that there are several threads now about M&S products.......when I’ve never seen any before.

Jojoanna · 15/11/2019 11:58

I usually see M&S threads in Style and Beauty saying how rubbish there clothes are

KimchiLaLa · 15/11/2019 12:13

Square toe boots are actually very trendy at the moment and lots of bloggers are going for them, that should not influence your decision but they are not as frumpy as people are making out. So I would go for them. Even better if you used a discount code.

BubblesBuddy · 15/11/2019 18:15

Leather is a by product of animals. They are not husbanded for leather and I will continue to wear leather. Luckily we have choices so each to theirs.

flobonobo · 16/11/2019 00:43

@BubblesBuddy I don’t think leather being a byproduct of the meat industry makes it ok for someone with vegan values.

Whilst ‘vegan’ is becoming a eye rolly word, I agree with the basics. I’m vege and trying to change.

no idea why there is such vitriol towards those that are. It’s green, sustainable and pain free! If we were all vegan the amazon wouldn’t have been burnt down for cattle farming, and we likely wouldn’t be seeing horrendous floods/fires etc.

Anyway I’m derailing... on with the boots hunt!

BubblesBuddy · 16/11/2019 12:32

Ok. Deforestation has been, historically, for cattle ranching. Latest reports say it’s also for palm oil plantations and soy bean production. Therefore being vegan isn’t great for the rainforest either. So please, at least, get your facts right.

Also, if you actually read what I posted, I sad I preferred leather and was attacked for that view. At no point did I attack anyone wanting vegan products. I just said they were not for me and cattle are not bred for leather. That’s a fact too.

I do believe there should be choice. You make yours and I’ll make mine. The vitriol has actually been aimed at me. But if you think you are saving the Rainforest by being vegan I would think again.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/11/2019 15:21

attacked for that view.

vitriol

Pfffffffffft

I'm guessing that was aimed at me ?

I didn't "attack" for wanting to wear leather . You wear what you like .
Leather . Fur . Cashmere . Angora . Snow leopard ,. Crocodile . Snake .Sea otter .
Go for it .

It makes no difference to me .
I cannot stop anyone doing what they want.

What I said was leather doesn't "breathe" ('cos it's dead innit?)

There's a lot in the tanning and preparing of leather to proof it .

And I have seen and adviced 1000s of people with hyperidrosis and bromidrosis , many of whom wear leather shoes .

My choice is not to .
