I'm a fashion inspiration PaulHollywoodsSexGut I wish you many warm and snuggly winter days

OrchidInTheSun · 01/11/2019 17:52

Well they've lost most of their core customers with their policy of letting me into the women's changing rooms so just as well some of S&B think their clothes aren't too awful.

Aderyn19 · 01/11/2019 19:23

Gwen I like that grey jumper dress.

Bellasblankexpression · 01/11/2019 20:57

I've actually bought a fair bit in there recently but I'm 7 months pregnant and it seems to fit me well (jumpers and tops especially) as they are narrow at the shoulders and wider at the bottom.... I can imagine if I wasn't pregnant I wouldn't love the fit of these so much!

I do however like their footwear. I've got a lovely pair of suede mustard heels from a couple of seasons ago and am very tempted by some hiker boots that are in there at the moment....

@Loaf90 bitchy comment

I’m loving M&S at the moment.
Bought 4 dresses, shoes, boots.
Looking at the coats now.

Obviously hit and miss with some things but on the whole, very nice.

BearFoxBear · 01/11/2019 22:19

I'm loving it at the moment - spent a fortune there last weekend. I work in PR so I have to look good and a bit edgy and managed to get a suitable winter capsule wardrobe. If you c as nt find anything, you're not looking.

TableNiner · 01/11/2019 22:50

Something is different in M&S this season, can’t entirely put my finger on it. But they seem to have reduced the product range slightly, gone for some more ‘edgy’ choices and Per Una is not so ‘frumpy’, no weird felt jumpers with flower embellishments. More plain and better cut stuff. Still some dross to pick through but they are on a better track.

There is still a big contrast between the older, unrefurbished, suburban stores and the flash ones (both Westfields in London, Bluewater etc).

Gwenhwyfar · 01/11/2019 23:09

Thanks Aderyn

TattiePants · 01/11/2019 23:32

@OrchidInTheSun is that a typo or have you singlehandedly been driving their customers away Wink

Zinnia · 01/11/2019 23:51

I'm in the "M&S have upped their game" camp. Went a bit crazy with my 20% off last week...

Properly gorgeous leather skirt

Slinky satin (if overexposed) floral midi skirt

Red cashmere roll-neck jumper

Surprisingly great western boots that I thought I'd hate but actually love

Very comfy laptop backpack that might not be quite as nice as the Knomo one I really want but is less than half the price

Leopard print trainers!

Locking up my wallet for a while now but so far I'm really impressed with them. Also really like the long duvet coat upthread but had to draw the line somewhere...

Have also picked up a long sleeve stripy top for layering, a black half slip and some knee length socks for wearing with boots.

Yes of course there's loads in M&S I wouldn't touch with a barge pole, but I'd say the same of pretty much any high street store (except Cos, obvs). The amount of dross in the likes of Zara or H&M (for example) beggars belief, and at least M&S are making a proper effort environmentally.

Zinnia · 01/11/2019 23:55

Ugh link fail..
Floral skirt that's in all the ad campaigns

Laptop backpack

Trewser · 02/11/2019 10:28

Am I allowed to say I don't like anything linked to and in fact a few of the pieces are truly grim? The black sweater is the best of a bad bunch.

myhandsareverycold · 02/11/2019 10:45

Their opaque tights are the best. Also love their bras and some of the very smart trousers are amazing quality.

I must be honest, I often forget about them though. Not my first place to go when I want clothes.

I consistently like Boden and Mint Velvet.

Oly4 · 02/11/2019 11:31

Zinnia, I love everything in your links, especially the floral skirt

OP posts:
Trewser · 02/11/2019 11:37

Ok, i think the floral skirt is horrible and hard to wear. Im 52 and think of myself as not bad fashion wise. Even the model has the wind blowing it to give it some shape!

Velveteenfruitbowl · 02/11/2019 11:41

I’ve actually seen a lot of stuff that I’ve liked a lot this season but with the exception of one short everything by else I have ever bought from M&S has turn greed out to be very poor quality so I can’t really being myself to shop there.

Trewser · 02/11/2019 12:12

The last thing i bought there was a gold pendant necklace, in an emergency to go with a particular outfit. When i put it on, the pendant broke and fell off Confused

Deathraystare · 02/11/2019 12:21

I do likle the basics and their bras and knickers plus I usually buy their wide fit shoes. I would buy more but for their obsessions (sadly like every other shop) with bloody Viscose. Damn them.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/11/2019 12:35

Sorry but not loving the waist on that leather skirt. I think Whistles do much nicer leather skirts at a similar price point. M&S ones generally far too long as well.

Zinnia · 02/11/2019 13:02

Grin if there's one thing this thread proves, it's horses for courses!

I'm 5' 9", hourglass/pear, hate my legs so love a long skirt. The floral is a wrap which I would never normally buy, but actually holds fast and goes with all the red/navy/olive/brown in my wardrobe. It suits me. The only thing I don't like is that it's been so heavily advertised, I hate it being really obvious where my clothes are from (despite being a Cos junkie so this is a bit of a contradiction in terms).

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I like the waistband, it's comfortable and means it will still fit me when I've lost that stone can be worn on the waist or hips. I don't like the pencil skirts Whistles have in this season, and their hike in prices in the last few years has been accompanied by a fall in quality, IMO. I miss the Jane Shepherdson years.
