I'm getting into m&s. Some of their boots and coats have been nice this season. I also really like their childrens wear

LoyaltyBonus · 30/10/2019 21:30

M&S makes me sad these days. It used to be the place for decent quality basics at a fair price but now, as PP says, things that look nice are horrible close up and the quality is very poor

Scarydinosaurs · 30/10/2019 21:30

My sheer black shirt from M&S earlier this year was lush, and because it’s a classic shape I’ve dug it out for this year. I’m going to try wearing it layered up, and see if I can find a good pencil midi length skirt to go with it.

I like being able to search by fabrics. Their cotton knitwear is so lovely. Hate the polyester/nylon crackle of autumn wardrobes.

ClinkyMonkey · 30/10/2019 21:46

Erm, the OP has bought and is wearing items linked. No need to be so rude when giving your opinion. Blimey, tough crowd on here!

NotStayingIn · 30/10/2019 21:53

I’m so excited about the M&S beauty calendar. And OP I agree, there are some great clothes. Sure not everything will be to everyone’s taste, but I generally always find something I love.

huffpuffstuff · 30/10/2019 22:00

Hey op if you are still out there I bought both those boots too (different colours) and was so pleased with them until I opened this thread!

How do you know?

Aderyn19 · 30/10/2019 22:15

I did see a nice blue velvet blazer and some mock crock boots which were nice. Would have bought both but blazer not in my size and I had literally just bought boots in the jigsaw sale.

TattiePants · 30/10/2019 22:24

Having not bought anything in M&S for years (apart from school uniforms) I've bought loads recently. From memory I've bought two of the merino jumpers linked above, a pair of jeans, two pairs of skinny trousers, a navy dress, those black hiking style boots and a navy wool coat! I blame my Mum; I never would have been in M&S if it hadn't been for her.

Pinkarsedfly · 30/10/2019 22:26

I’ve lived in the black hiking boots I got from there this autumn.

Northernsoullover · 30/10/2019 22:31

I've got a pair of boots just like that. I only bought them in September Blush
I've been in M & S quite a lot lately. I am finding that their prices are much more reasonable than they used to be.

Jumbojem · 30/10/2019 22:34

I got a lovely autograph lace trimmed camisole which is great quality. Looks like the Jigsaw ones but half the price. Great for layering and wish they had more colours. Also heatgen are great for my chilly office. Couldn't find any decent wool mix work trousers though, or any decent work trousers really.

TattiePants · 30/10/2019 22:35

@Pinkarsedfly are these the boots you have? If so, are they comfy? I bought them last month but haven't worn them yet.

letsdolunch321 · 30/10/2019 22:38

I like both pairs of boots OP

We all like different things in the fashion world, different things make up all the snazzy quirks we have.

Tractorgirlz · 30/10/2019 22:38

I love the first pair of boots! People are being so catty!

ClinkyMonkey · 30/10/2019 22:42

How do I know? I read the OP.

Oly* has mentioned washing the cashmere. Presumably she didn't dunk it in a basin in the middle of M&S to see what happened. The tights stay up apparently. Oh, and the boots appear to go well with various items she owns.

ScrambledSmegs · 30/10/2019 22:52

I bought a pair of leather hiking-style boots there recently that I wasn't sure about to start with (as I'd actually like a pair of DMs but can't justify the expense) but have barely stopped wearing since. They were a bit too new and shiny at first, but now they've been worn in I love , they're comfortable and I've basically worn them with everything. Even wore them with a floaty skirt to a nice restaurant and didn't feel or look a twit. I think Grin

Not sure about their other stuff this season but these are a winner for me.

ScrambledSmegs · 30/10/2019 22:54

Ha! And now I see that I'm not the only one!

Loaf90 · 30/10/2019 22:54

You've embarrassed yourself with those boots

Bellasblankexpression · 30/10/2019 23:00

Wow people are being really harsh. You might
not like them, but how has OP embarrassed herself with the boots?! I've seen much worse on here touted as high fashion.

I'm quite liking the M&S oversized jumpers at the moment as not getting on with maternity wear but sizing up in those has worked perfectly. They've washed okay so far, we shall see.

But then I don't really consider myself to be fashionable at all, I'm part of the stripes and jeans brigade so what do I know! Grin

Nat6999 · 30/10/2019 23:00

I very rarely buy anything from M & S now, the odd pack of knickers & a coat. I don't feel like their ranges don't meet what I want any more, everything is either too young or for women much older than me, also the quality of the clothing isn't as good as it was.

Shodan · 30/10/2019 23:09

I've just bought 2 of their jersey swing dresses. £19.50 each, comfortable, easy to dress up or down. I've had so many compliments on them!

Also bought leather brogues for ds2 and jeans- M & S are one of the few places that don't assume all kids want to wear skinny jeans/chinos.

Ds1, who usually buys very expensive stuff (handmade shoes ffs Grin) is a big fan of the tweedy coat he bought there.

Sure, a lot of their stuff is truly hideous, but tbh the same can be said of virtually any store.

swimlyn · 30/10/2019 23:10

Dunno about catty or ‘tough crowd’. Hmm

People are entitled to their opinion though, be that good or bad. For us, over the last twenty years or so, we go there less and less, mainly due to quality problems that we don’t experience elsewhere. Additionally, it all seems very poor value for money now.

If it doesn’t last well, eg: fading, stretching out of shape etc, then you’d be daft to keep buying there. Couple that experience with the fact that they’ve closed so many big stores…

Most annoying for me is the online stock problems, where you find something you do actually like, return immediately to buy more, and it is never ever back in stock. They clearly lack confidence in their own products.

Pinkarsedfly · 31/10/2019 02:16

Tattypants they’re the ones! They’re like slippers.

chamenanged · 31/10/2019 06:32

I like their kids clothes (for myself).
