I am pleased they have reintroduced some better quality trousers that come in plain black and navy and also some plain black quality work skirts. Also bought dd a very nice duffle coat.

Still too much nylon for my liking. Always buy bras, knickers, tights, mens socks and pants there.

BeatriceTheBeast · 31/10/2019 07:04

I have had a few nice bits from M&s, but it is a bit rubbish if you're on the taller side. Especially tshirts and knitwear.

I also have a small bugbear with M&S and it's that you can search for menswear by fabric, but not womenswear. You can also buy pure lambswool, washable knitwear which apparently even goes in the drier, for men, quite cheaply, but the women's knitwear is often manmade fibres, or is ludicrously expensive and either hand wash only or at least wash on cool and no drier etc. It's not even as if I use my tumble drier all that often. It's just the principle that men get pure wool items which are also practical, but women get overpriced polyester Hmm.

Northernsoullover · 31/10/2019 07:05

@Shodan I've bought a swing dress too. I was lucky to get one as they are almost sold out. They also have some nice roll neck print tops which are only 8.50. If people have stopped shopping in there and have written it off I strongly suggest having another look.

Vicliz24 · 31/10/2019 07:09

The £59 leather hiking boots are fabulous as are a lot of the coats . The polyester though I can't bear .

Scarydinosaurs · 31/10/2019 07:11

Beatrice I can search by fabric on womenswear? It’s probably one of the reasons I buy so much as I can quickly sift through all the polyester.

ChickenyChick · 31/10/2019 07:15

I have not bought clothes at M&S for over 20 years

Used to think it was good quality at a reasonable price

But they always somehow get things just wrong

ChickenyChick · 31/10/2019 07:16

And they have not woken up to the fact that some women are taller than 5ft6

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 31/10/2019 07:20

I like that first pair of boots, but wouldn’t spend £59 on them!

BeatriceTheBeast · 31/10/2019 07:21

@Scarydinosaurs

Omg really? Because last time I went on there I definitely couldn't. I'm delighted to read it's either changed or I am being a tecnhophobe Halloween Grin.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 31/10/2019 07:22

Some people think being highly critical makes them look discerning. It doesn't, it just makes them sound catty.

I agree op, m&s has improved lately.

Ohhellooooo · 31/10/2019 07:26

I still really like M&S. It’s my staple for workwear. I’ve just bought a really lovely and comfortable coat and get so many compliments on it.

Sagradafamiliar · 31/10/2019 07:31

Those Grenson-alike hiking boots are peng.

And I agree, Bedtime.

chillichutneysarnie · 31/10/2019 07:53

Today I learned I have no fashion sense... Always suspected it. I like the m&s stuff!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/10/2019 08:09

My 24 year old daughter has just bought the black hiking boots and is wearing them with rolled up mum jeans and a long coat. She looks great!

Daffodil2018 · 31/10/2019 08:13

You still get the odd gem in M&S but my god you have to trawl a lot of crap to find them.

I wish they would cut right down on the size of the range and just concentrate on getting the quality up on what they do offer. They're trying to be all things to all people at the moment and it just doesn't work.

scubadive · 31/10/2019 08:26

It’s the worst I have ever seen it. All the basics gone, sizing horrendous.

All tops have such narrow shoulders, the body of their t-shirts are wider then the shoulders, who is shaped like this.

Cheap fabrics, store layout muddled, too many items on each rack but always sizes missing.

Looks like a cheap version of BHS these days.

I used to love love love M&S, literally everything I bought was from there. Now I think they deserve to go bust with such terrible buyers and management.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/10/2019 08:41

After with Daffodil. They should do far fewer items, but do them much better with real care about cut, fabric and quality.

Moondancer73 · 31/10/2019 08:49

Ooh love the boots

beanaseireann · 31/10/2019 09:00

The quality has definitely gone down. Some coats last year, while reasonably priced were dire quality.
Their knickers quality too has gone way down- all that microfibre synthetic shi*e, when women are advised to wear cotton.
Why can you not get cotton midi knickers in nude ? M&S do them in white and black but not nude or do them in nude but not cotton. Aghhh Sad

ClinkyMonkey · 31/10/2019 09:02

I don't enjoy shopping in M&S anymore at all. It is very badly laid out and it's difficult to find what you're looking for. The materials are thin and don't hang well. I got my 20 per cent off Sparks offer last week and thought I'd see what their dresses were like. So much scratchy polyester. Some of them were basically just elastic with a few strands of material thrown in for good measure. Everything I try on makes me feel a bit crap, like I'm the wrong shape. Of course, that could be trueGrin but I always find SOMEthing in other shops.

I liked some of their boots, but couldn't justify buying myself a pair at the minute.

JoanBonJovi · 31/10/2019 09:03

Both boots godawful. Although I got a hold bias cut skirt in there which I like. Their dresses also good

SpiderCharlotte · 31/10/2019 09:31

You've embarrassed yourself with those boots

Oh come on, no one can really say that this isn't catty. Because it is.

JoanBonJovi · 31/10/2019 09:32

So? People disagree with the boots. Think the OP will survive 🙄

Jocasta2018 · 31/10/2019 09:34

I buy their jeans online as there's always a decent fit if you buy loads of different styles & sizes (then send them back - I'm sorry but the local stores have a crap selection!). Plus I got some nice black T-shirts from there as well. Not looked at anything else really.

ClinkyMonkey · 31/10/2019 09:53

Yes, I'm sure the OP will survive, but there is no need for nasty comments. I wonder if all those who have been rude would use delightful phrases such as 'godawful' if asked by someone in real life what they thought of something already bought and being worn.
