Opinions on engagement ring...To resize or not!!!!

Hi there,

Just looking for opinions on my replacement engagement ring as I'm starting to obsess!!! So I'll start at the beginning, I somehow managed to take a chunk out of the diamond in my old engagement ring so luckily we had it insured and we got our our money through and we decided to put a little to it and upgrade slightly so choose my new replacement princess cut engagement ring. We have been married for 13 years and have to children so I already have my wedding and and an eternity ring.

My old engagement ring was an I 1/2, I have small fingers with bigger knuckles. My wedding ring and eternity ring are both a size J. So when ordering my new ring I ordered an I 1/2 but the problem now is that at certain points in the day it feels really quite tight and my fingers bulge a little, it's is also tight getting it on in the mornings (I take my rings off every night) but then at other times usually later in the day or when cooler it fits perfectly and even spins a little. My old ring was a different band style and slightly narrower.

So my dilemma is whether or not to go up a quarter of a size to an I 3/4 or just leave it. I know I don't want it at a J as my other 2 rings are a J and they do spin when my hands are smaller but they don't bother me much as they are flat but I really don't want my new ring to be to big and the diamond spinning all the time but also don't like it when it feels tight!!!

The first photo was this morning when it felt tight and the second was this afternoon and felt perfect.

Thank you to anyone who has actually got to the end of this post, sorry for rambling on....decision making is not one of my strong points!!!! smile Any opinions ladies on wearing your rings slightly to big or slightly to small?! What do u prefer?
xxx

sunshine so it's fine to criticise someone else's (stunning) rings, but you completely dismiss someone being negative about your rings?

Hmm
Skinnychip · 21/10/2019 23:04

She says the key point is that if this is a ring that may be passed to someone else in future, the unconventional resizing could become a problem.

But surely its more important that the ring fits its current owner properly? To prevent damage or loss

I agree with kitten on the previous page who says you can put balls in to stop it spinning (they could be removed at a later date if the ring was gifted to someone else)

CoastalWave · 21/10/2019 23:16

I just can't believe people can actually FIT 3 on one finger?! I must have very strange fingers..there's barely room for 2.

I would wear it on the other hand personally but then I prefer simplicity. Looks a bit cluttered to me.

L0bstersLass · 21/10/2019 23:16

Sorry, but I don't think your finger is long enough to have 3 rings on it. Why not get the eternity ring made larger and wear it on your other hand?

Tartyflette · 21/10/2019 23:21

I think the problem is that with all three rings together and the solitaire on the outside, so to speak, it is noticeable that it is a smaller circumference than the other two.
I think if you had it resized it would look perfect. They go together very well apart from that small point.
If it subsequently spins, you can do the ball thing.

Djimino · 21/10/2019 23:37

I’d get them resized and I’d also wear them on separate hands. All three together looks clunky. I wear mine on separate hands,

lborgia · 22/10/2019 02:18

I would get the eternity ring resized and wear it on your other hand... I’ve got exactly that - eternity is slightly larger, and it also feels more balance too. I think the photo of the rings that were so similar to yours are on a finger where there is more room between the knuckle and next joint, so it looks quite different. Whatever, I hope you carry on wearing all of them, I still love mine after 15years!

FuriousVexation · 22/10/2019 04:29

Your rings are beautiful!

Hand/fingers/feet/toes swell up and down during the day in response to heat, humidity and hydration levels.

(I always found my fingers swole up worse when I went to the gym or took a brisk walk.)

Maybe try waiting to put your rings on until you've drank at least 500ml of water and had a pee?

nononever · 22/10/2019 07:22

I thought everyone kept their rings on

I only wear mine when I'm leaving the house!

nononever · 22/10/2019 07:27

I think there are some jealous people on here.

Hmm
Nishky · 22/10/2019 07:31

I think you should only wear two on that hand- and I am not jealous, what an odd thing to say.

I think the rings on @MakeTeaNotWar look stunning - there is more room on her finger than on @Fruity77. I think this detracts from Fruity’s engagement ring, which is so stunning it deserves to be displayed in all its glory.

AugieMarch · 22/10/2019 07:43

Lovely rings! I would definitely recommend have it resized.

I do think the issue is not so much that 3 rings looks bad per se, but that your wedding band is relatively wide given the length of your finger (your engagement band too, perhaps, although hard to tell on these photos). If the bands were a little narrower having 3 would look good, but those 3 rings look a little squeezed in given the length of your finger. It's for that reason I agree that wearing one ring on another finger would make more sense, or perhaps alternating which 2 you wear (eg wedding and eternity for every day, engagement and wedding for special occasions).

I'm the same - if I wear 3 stacked it looks squished in as I have small hands with relatively short fingers compared to some (not tiny but just not long) and the space between the base of my finger and the first knuckle isn't large enough to give the rings space.

nedflandereses · 22/10/2019 07:44

Sunshine your rings do look crammed.

ExpletiveDEVILighted · 22/10/2019 07:53

Three together nearly always detracts from the beauty of the individual rings and looks cluttered on most people. If you can't wear the eternity ring on the other hand how about getting the engagement ring re-sized to your right hand?

dottiedodah · 22/10/2019 08:38

I too have small and rather chubby fingers! I wear my eternity ring and wedding ring together .

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 22/10/2019 08:56

I wear wedding and engagement in one hand and my eternity on the other. I’ve got lanky fingers but fat knuckles.

stclair · 22/10/2019 17:43

OP I think the 3 rings are fine for your finger! Resize (unless you’ll worry they will slip off!) and perhaps put the princess cut between the other two. More traditional way and balances them out.

SunshineCake · 22/10/2019 21:58

@nedflanderers in your opinion. I can't agree as they look and feel fabulous. Crammed would be where there is barely any finger showing below the knuckle.

Derbee · 22/10/2019 22:20

@SunshineCake didn’t you delete your photo? So you can’t think they look that great?

This is ‘talk > style and beauty’

MustardScreams · 23/10/2019 09:01

@Bevsmith70 oh do bore off. Don’t read Style and Beauty if you don’t want to read about style and beauty!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 23/10/2019 09:02

Bev - I have one sister terminally ill, one has just had cancer and another may be losing an eye. Also other stuff. Is that ‘serious’ enough for you?

Fruity77 · 23/10/2019 11:52

@Bevsmith70 This is style and beauty talk...??? !!!!!! If you have bigger worries then don't read my post and better still dont post on it!!!!!!
