Opinions on engagement ring...To resize or not!!!!

Hi there,

Just looking for opinions on my replacement engagement ring as I'm starting to obsess!!! So I'll start at the beginning, I somehow managed to take a chunk out of the diamond in my old engagement ring so luckily we had it insured and we got our our money through and we decided to put a little to it and upgrade slightly so choose my new replacement princess cut engagement ring. We have been married for 13 years and have to children so I already have my wedding and and an eternity ring.

My old engagement ring was an I 1/2, I have small fingers with bigger knuckles. My wedding ring and eternity ring are both a size J. So when ordering my new ring I ordered an I 1/2 but the problem now is that at certain points in the day it feels really quite tight and my fingers bulge a little, it's is also tight getting it on in the mornings (I take my rings off every night) but then at other times usually later in the day or when cooler it fits perfectly and even spins a little. My old ring was a different band style and slightly narrower.

So my dilemma is whether or not to go up a quarter of a size to an I 3/4 or just leave it. I know I don't want it at a J as my other 2 rings are a J and they do spin when my hands are smaller but they don't bother me much as they are flat but I really don't want my new ring to be to big and the diamond spinning all the time but also don't like it when it feels tight!!!

The first photo was this morning when it felt tight and the second was this afternoon and felt perfect.

Thank you to anyone who has actually got to the end of this post, sorry for rambling on....decision making is not one of my strong points!!!! smile Any opinions ladies on wearing your rings slightly to big or slightly to small?! What do u prefer?
xxx

have to agree with the crowd. 3 rings doesn't look right. I also have very small hands so chose a very narrow wedding ring - which I never take off. I wear my lovely engagement ring with that and eternity ring on right hand. The 3 together look awful.

RosieRi · 21/10/2019 15:28

Could you wear one on the other hand?

msmith501 · 21/10/2019 15:37

Could you just reorder them so the engagement ring was nearest your wrist?

PunkHairToday · 21/10/2019 15:39

Too many rings that are too wide, but the engagement ring is too tight as it's at a fatter part of your finger.

I have tiny hands and take a G1/2. I recently swapped my yellow gold wedding ring for a single white gold and diamond ring that combines wedding and eternity- it looks like an eternity. it's 2.5mm. My original wedding ring was 2mm. I never wear my engagement ring now. It's yellow gold. I enquired about having it reset and the cost wasn't worth it.

Personally, I don't like stacked rings and think 2 are enough and only then if they are very narrow.

Agree with the others that you need to wear one on another hand as they are all quite wide rings.

I'll never get into my wedding or engagement ring again (40+ years), but had my eternity ring (30 years) resized last year. Best thing I did. Hubby also bought me a new wedding ring!

The 3 rings on one finger is too much.

underground76 · 21/10/2019 16:15

They're lovely rings but, as others have said, it's the fact that you're wearing three wide-ish rings stacked on one finger that's causing your finger to look squashed like that. I don't think those three rings are actually designed to stack and they're taking up the whole bottom joint of your finger.

I would suggest moving the eternity ring to your other hand and seeing how you get on like that.

user1486131602 · 21/10/2019 16:20

My suggestion would be to not wear your rings to bed!
Then when you wake up the swelling won’t be there!

Idontneeditatall · 21/10/2019 16:37

I know several people who wear 3 and 4 rings on one finger and they look awful (not the modern thin stacking rings) especially when the fingers are fairly short. All squashed up and uncomfortable looking . I actually think yours look ok op but would possibly be better wearing one on the other hand.

BossAssBitch · 21/10/2019 16:40

Eternity on right hand. I don't like that squished up look, it detracts from the beauty of an engagement ring.

I think the three rings look stunning together and I certainly wouldn’t be putting one on the other hand. I had my rings resized earlier this year and they look much better. They do spin when my hands are cold but I much prefer that to them being tight. I’d suggest going to a good jeweller and getting the sizing right.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 21/10/2019 16:53

Unless you have very long and elegant fingers, which not many people do, I think three ri gs is too many on one finger. It makes it look as though the knuckle is bigger than it is.

category12 · 21/10/2019 16:53

Nah, I disagree, the engagement ring dominates and overshadows the eternity ring, which is pretty in its own right. It's a shame to have them altogether.

fruitbrewhaha · 21/10/2019 16:54

I think all 3 together looks odd and uncomfortable.

73Sunglasslover · 21/10/2019 16:58

They both look far too tight to me - but it's really about how they feel. I can't stand rings as tight as yours are. Mine spin around though which I consider a better compromise than having a ring which is squeezing me.

PunkHairToday · 21/10/2019 17:22

On another tack...

Do you never take your rings off?

I never understand women who wear an engagement ring 24/7 because surely there is a risk of damaging the stone?

That's why I can't see why some women wear their engagement ring first and wedding ring next. Surely you take the engagement ring off when washing up, painting, doing heavy chores, gardening, etc? (unless you all have servants :))

MakeTeaNotWar · 21/10/2019 17:23

OP your rings are v similar to mine and I wear them all together and I love them like this!

LaurieFairyCake · 21/10/2019 17:23

I would resize up and then wear the engagement ring on the finger first - it will then be held in place by the wedding ring and then the eternity ring.

MakeTeaNotWar · 21/10/2019 17:24

Sorry my hand looks rather like a foot there!

Loopytiles · 21/10/2019 17:27

3 on one finger doesn’t look good on most hands.

Loopytiles · 21/10/2019 17:27

Unless thin stacking rings

category12 · 21/10/2019 17:28

I think there's more finger left visible with yours, maketeanotwar, so it works better.

sylw · 21/10/2019 17:52

I have a great jeweler that told me a long time ago to put a ring guard on rings that spin. She wears one on her huge wedding rings. It really works. When my fingers swell, it adjusts somewhat. You do need to check it periodically to make sure it isn't weakened or loose. I would not get a gold one, it would be soft. I have never lost a ring doing this.
Beautiful rings by the way!

DillyDilly · 21/10/2019 18:13

All lovely rings shown but honestly, they would look better with wedding and engagement rings on one finger and the eternity ring on another finger.

Three rings on one finger just looked cluttered and the beauty of each ring is lost in the overcrowd.
