Help me, I haven’t been ‘out-out’ for so very long I am completely out of the loop.

I’m going to birthday party in a trendy London east-end bar and I haven’t the first clue what to wear.

Style tips anyone?

A dress is always good. I’d go for either a black dress or a scarf print dress. With heels.

Karwomannghia · 28/09/2019 07:34

What’s your budget and figure though and what sort of things do you normally wear?

Bubbinsmakesthree · 28/09/2019 07:41

Figure - tall and athletic build. I tend to shop in Cos, Other Stories etc.

Could be anything from dress and heels to jeans and trainers. Anything goes. What's the bar/area of London, and what's your budget and normal style?

Tacobellend · 28/09/2019 08:13

I'm 40 When I went went out I wore a dark blue skater style denim shirt dress from. Warehouse ,With heeled boots and red lipstick .

Delatron · 28/09/2019 08:19

Jumpsuit? Dress and boots?

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 28/09/2019 08:29

Ooh, I went out in London a couple of weeks ago and while I'm not particularly stylish, I do love people watching.

  1. all the women were wearing trainers (or really fucking ugly sandals), whatever they were wearing them with. Mostly white and vintage looking, a bit like the Gola ones we used to wear for school PE.
  2. dresses everywhere (with the trainers, no tights), mostly small florals on dark backgrounds but also some more edgy geometric colour blocks
  3. still a lot of floaty pleated skits around (again, with the trainers)
  4. there were boiler suits - these looked brilliant. They were not the same as the glam jumpsuits for weddings and looked like a cross between plumbers' workwear and 1970s safari suits. These were all with big jewellery.
Sexnotgender · 28/09/2019 08:32

I’d go for cigarette trousers, heels and a crisp white shirt.

Am I the only one who HATES jumpsuits? They look good on very few people.

I think my problem is that all my ‘heels and dress’ outfits are what I wear for work and all my ‘jeans and trainers’ outfits are weekend wear. None of it feels like ‘out out’ clothes.

Great intel Elizabeth - is everyone wearing those long midi dresses like the spotty Zara one that was everywhere this summer?

I really want a jumpsuit but struggle to find one to fit because I am tall.

I'm mid thirties and live in east London. When I do go out I mix causal and dressy, so nice mid length dress with a nice smart pair of trainers and leather jacket.

But I don't think I dress in a style just what I like which might not be to everyone's taste.

Saying that, I am going out next week and will wear heals as they don't allow trainers 😬

French connection have some nice jumpsuits for taller figures. I had to have mine taken up buy about 4 inches

Whistles have a great sale on atm. The linen square neck blouse with buttons and high waisted jeans? Ugly flatform sandals. Done!

thedevilinablackdress · 28/09/2019 09:15

From your last update I'd suggest dress and trainers.

Elllllle · 28/09/2019 09:17

Whistles also have a great black jumpsuit with shirred body and small floral print

Elllllle · 28/09/2019 09:19

jumpsuit

Imonlymoominafterall · 28/09/2019 09:22

I live round there - I'd say not heels - more like a jumpsuit and trainers or midi dress and hiker boots or knee high mid heels boots, or something vintage with a leather jacket... or just whatever you feel good in because that's more important!

Sooverthemill · 28/09/2019 09:22

I saw some amazing dresses this morning on Red email here all would look great with trainers or dressed up with boots

user1494670108 · 28/09/2019 09:33

I live a jumpsuit.
I would either wear my denim one which was unbelievably from Asda with white leather converse , or my Boden navy blue one (which I will be wearing to dinner tonight) with orange wedge sandals

mnahmnah · 28/09/2019 09:35

That’s me tonight too...

I’m wearing a black cropped leg jumpsuit from Warehouse, bright coloured kimono, gold strappy heels

OwnerofanAngryCat · 28/09/2019 09:42

Are jump suits back again? Worst thing for a night out ever.

A few pints in, queue for the toilets, having to undress, then accurately dress again. Does no-one remember that from the previous times they were in fashion?

Elllllle · 28/09/2019 09:44

Are jumpsuits back again? Are you serious?

Pinkarsedfly · 28/09/2019 09:47

I went out last night in black coated skinny jeans, a black silk camisole, a black blazer and heels.

MairzyDoats · 28/09/2019 09:54

I'm looking for a print dress to go out in, they look great with trainers and boots, and maybe it's just me but those ones in the Red link are fugly!! Shapeless, awful prints. Not flattering to anyone. And jumpsuits make my arse look enormous.

Delatron · 28/09/2019 10:35

Jumpsuits have been in fashion for a few years and I don’t think they are going anywhere.

Silk cargo trousers and heels?

Dress and biker boots but not a dress with heels.

yearinyearout · 28/09/2019 10:47

"Jeans and a nice top"?
