Help me, I haven’t been ‘out-out’ for so very long I am completely out of the loop.

I’m going to birthday party in a trendy London east-end bar and I haven’t the first clue what to wear.

Style tips anyone?

Ouch, that really, really makes me sad @Flo. CBGB and Max's Kansas City were the first places I got to know people in NYC, until I got a job. I hate to think of CBs as a shop.

I really don't think people judge, but for me being over-dressed feels as bad as being under dressed, it's not about wearing the same clothes as everyone else...I never feel boring when I dress down.

The midi dress with biker jacket and trainers is so ubiquitous, I'd actually avoid it.

Especially THAT Zara dress.

If I were buying a new outfit to wear out in hip east London but wanted to feel a bit dressiers, I'd do high waisted slight balloon cut jeans or trousers with a sheer mesh blouse /top tucked in - not the stretchy mesh, the baggy sheer stuff (sorry terrible description) or a boiler suit and nice trainers.

The last time I went out i wore this dress, styled pretty much the same as the picture.
I'm 40 very soon.

Oh I really like that especially with the boots - although it would look shit on me. I have some DM shoes that I might wear for work tomorrow now with a long pencil skirt. I like that they are kind of fuck you while technically being office appropriate.

@nanbread I’m the same - on a night out I would consciously avoid anything that’s properly ubiquitous. I’d at least look to make myself stand out a little, somehow.

I finally treated myself to a leather biker jacket this weekend which ive been lusting after/justifying to myself for a year. It's so beautiful! I literally cannot think of a single outfit it will not totally rock with.

I'm very happy Smile

@Floisme having always lived in London, I would never have said I'd ever considered it tribal.

I dont worry too much about what's on trend though either. If I like it and it feels good I wear it. You can wear so many wildly different things in London and no one really takes much notice. Manh of my clothes arent the most conventional but people blink an eyelid.

GlamGiraffe · 29/09/2019 21:26

Don't. They dont blink!!🤦‍♀️

Floisme · 29/09/2019 21:39

But maybe that's because you've always lived there. Lots of things about my neighbourhood that I don't notice because I see it every day.
Anyway I've already said I'd leave it - sorry op.

That's what I love about London. You want to eat ceviche for breakfast wearing a ballgown and wellies? No-one cares.
