WWW's 6 week 10 year younger plan WEEK 1 with renewed summer vigour Aug - Sept, 2 weeks into term

Hello! This is week one of the SEVENTH WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007

( how did that happen?)

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a resuklt. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, especially in this heat
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Anyone who feels like it, post how you've been feeling since doing this and why you want to keep doing it. Add what you want to achieve at the end of it too if you want to.

Here's mine:
I want to be a size I'm happier with by ds's tenth birthday, which is 2 months away. I want to not want to cry when I see the photos.

I fell asleep after lunch . A wine-free lunch, though it did feature a small amount of chocolate ice cream.

Don't know if I can keep up this born-again non-drinking lark when we go to France next Sat, even though GGGlimpopo assures me that French birds don't drink much.

Dingle · 11/08/2007 18:42

Can an old bootcamper return please!!!

Not been around much since about April, life just got too hectic again!! BUT now I am back with renewed goals and desperately in need of some motivation.

I am still fighting for DD to be supported in school (she is 5.5 with Down Syndrome)and feel constantly drained. We are in the middle of our extension being built and the stress of the school holidays is really taking it's toll!

I have the opportunity of a little part time job in September which amazingly seems to fit in around the school times, school hols and still gives me the time I need to take DD on her hospital/ therapy appointments in between. It's the chance for a small bit of my own identity to be raised from the dead again IYKWIM!!!

SO, waffle over!

  • Sunscreen use SPF moisturiser daily
  • Booze in the week...hmm..could be much better, I often relax at with a glass of wine once the kiddies are in bed. I will try to cut back or at least mix a cheaper wine with a lots of soda.
  • Walking - not too bad when kiddies are at school because of the school run. BUT terrible when they are on hols!! Can I get one of those peds online anywhere please?
  • Water- terrible!!!
  • Body cream, as good as daily, especially arms/legs and neck!!
  • hand cream/foot cream too, room to improve
  • Bedtime- late normally 11.30-12.00
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy - stress often takes over.

What I want? That's half my problem, I just don't know. I need some of my own identity and confidence back and I want to be fitter and more relaxed. How I acheive that is beyond me!!!

legalalien · 11/08/2007 19:14

t'DoNB - if you go for a run after a BBQ with wine, I will be beyond impressed!

I have done OK up until now, but can feel the imminent onslaught of indian takeaways plus BBQ with Pimms and wine tomorrow... . Perhaps I'm destined to be a weekday bootcamper!

dingle - am reliably informed that the ped thingies are obtainable on amazon! If you figure out how to reclaim your lost identity, let me know.

MI - am off to France in September and know that I have buckley's chance of staying off wine / cheese / tasty delicacies.

(for the non antipodeans, explanation of buckley's chance at www.anu.edu.au/andc/ozwords/Oct%202000/Buckley's.html

Oh, and 36

WideWebWitch · 11/08/2007 19:42

Dingle, sounds like you should take the job. Ikwym about identity. Welcome back.

The children are watching Grease, which makes me cry because it makes remember being 18 or something and John Travolta is dreamy pathetic innit? It really affects me

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 11/08/2007 19:43

MI you don't have to bootcamp on hol, def not!

OP posts:
Dingle · 11/08/2007 19:47

Just having a look on Amazon now- thank you legalalien! BUT there are a few types-any recommendations please ladies. I've had a few peds in the past which have either broken or are completely inacurate.

WideWebWitch · 11/08/2007 19:52

hello everyone, I am waddling back in after a week away, eating junk food and drinking most evenings. Feel so lardy and bloated it is untrue. Was good holiday though.

Back on the bootcamp regime tomorrow - it is my birthday in September and I really can't let another year pass and still be this size.

WideWebWitch · 11/08/2007 20:24

Hi Cerys! Welcome back!

I just posted this quote from City Slickers on another thread and think it bears posting here since some of us are Grumpy Old Women:

Billy Crystal in City Slickers (he goes to give a talk to his son's class on what he does, son is Jake Gylleghall):

"Value this time in your life kids, because this is the time in your life when you still have your choices, and it goes by so quickly. When you're a teenager you think you can do anything, and you do. Your twenties are a blur. Your thirties, you raise your family, you make a little money and you think to yourself, "What happened to my twenties?" Your forties, you grow a little pot belly you grow another chin. The music starts to get too loud and one of your old girlfriends from high school becomes a grandmother. Your fifties you have a minor surgery. You'll call it a procedure, but it's a surgery. Your sixties you have a major surgery, the music is still loud but it doesn't matter because you can't hear it anyway. Seventies, you and the wife retire to Fort Lauderdale, you start eating dinner at two, lunch around ten, breakfast the night before. And you spend most of your time wandering around malls looking for the ultimate in soft yogurt and muttering "how come the kids don't call?" By your eighties, you've had a major stroke, and you end up babbling to some Jamaican nurse who your wife can't stand but who you call mama. Any questions? "

Nevis, not Bahamas. Having reached the luxury of the Four Seasons I have internet access in my room (along with Frette 300 count bedlinen, L'occitane toiletries and a bathroom that is almost as nice as mine at home). I'm typing this whilst gazing out of my back door onto the cloud topped pyramid of Mount Nevis. Anyone jealous yet?

After being really really bad for the last 3 weeks I've decided to be good here - well relatively - and spent an hour in the gym this am. I'm aboutto go and teach dd how to snorkel, and then I'll come back and do some yoga on the lawn outside, with my view of the mountain and the lake on the golf course to relax me.

WideWebWitch · 11/08/2007 21:21

at Prufrock but how lovely it sounds! Will there be loads of lovely seafood and stuff?

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 11/08/2007 21:31

Well I did run after the BBQ with wine - 3.5 miles (or about 6k for any young people reading)! So I feel it's been a balanced day overall.

at Prufrock! Wish I was there, I love the sea, particularly the sparkly blue & warm sort

bamamama · 11/08/2007 21:32

I don't know, I turn my back for a moment and there's all this activity going on.... Just wanted to say a brief bon voyage before I move, we should be back online fairly soon so in the meantime, enjoy the next week or so and happy bootcamping. I plan to be miraculously (sp??) transformed mid-flight into someone who doesn't drink very much, who runs regularly and really, really enjoys tap water!

WideWebWitch · 11/08/2007 21:32

Good luck on the flight bamamama, post when you get there, how exciting!

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 11/08/2007 21:44

Hope the journey is OK bamamama. Eeek! How exciting! Look forward to hearing from you soon xx

tortoiseSHELL · 11/08/2007 22:25

Goodmorning all

Batters, oh to have a MIL who notices such things Had a card through the post about it might well stock up!
I am so you felt unwell yesterday but am glad you are feeling better this morning.

Ts, you sound high on happiness (or is that alcohol?) quota

Bamamama, good luck!

TDoNB, in awe at your having a run after the bbq!

Prufrock

WWW, that quote is really depressing and makes me determined to count my blessings NOW!

Cerys & Dingle, welcome back.

Yesterday was high on happiness quota as I spent the afternoon sitting in the garden with radio 3 on (wearing sunscreen & hat) reading the papers whilst ds played in his paddling pool. Drank water, did toning exercises, salsa dancing even got to bed relatively early (for a Saturday) with a book. Did however eat small homemade pizza made by ds and I (we now have enough pizza to feed an army), also ate vodka icecream and drank two glasses of wine.

The planned picnic today is likely to be cancelled because it is peeing down today

winnie · 12/08/2007 08:54

Batters, so should have read sorry obviously

rosmerta · 12/08/2007 10:06

Morning all

Had a reasonable day yesterday, dh tried to persuade me to have a takeaway last night but I cooked instead [smug look]!

I'd love to meet up with you all, need to check my dates and things first but just so you know the MN xmas do is on the 1st Dec as well.

motherinferior · 12/08/2007 11:03

I can't do 10 Nov as have a conference but can do the others...

I swam again today . Am considering going tomorrow evening. And Wednesday. The holiday looms. It's a million to one chance, but it just might work.

rosmerta · 12/08/2007 11:23

V impressive MI, I can't even manage to go once a week & I absolutely love swimming!

motherinferior · 12/08/2007 11:31

The thing is, exercise actually makes me feel better than non-exercise. Ditto non-drinking v drinking.

Remembering that and indeed putting it into practice is the hard bit
