I'm 40 and want a pair of trainers like this

Your age is pretty much irrelevant IMO.

What does matter is your personal style and how you will wear these trainers .

SpacePlusTime · 24/06/2019 23:12

Nope you’ll look cool. Seriously, I’ve been looking at those. I’m 35.

AuntGinny · 24/06/2019 23:14

No, but I'm getting a pair next time
Exactly like these ones

FamilyOfAliens · 24/06/2019 23:15

It’s not your age, its what you wear them with.

Just replacing your normal trainers for these wouldn’t look great.

AppleKatie · 24/06/2019 23:16

Yes. Not because of your age but because of the Apple fact that there are only 2 people in the world who can make trainers like that look cool. 😉

Jellybean100 · 24/06/2019 23:16

Yes but not because of your age but because they are bloody hideous Blush

ReturnofSaturn · 24/06/2019 23:19

Good god they are hideous Shock

DramaRamaLlama · 24/06/2019 23:21

My 15 year old DD wears those.

I occasionally borrow them. She considers it one of the most embarrassing elements of her life Grin

abitoflight · 24/06/2019 23:23

Are they fila disrupters?
I saw a women of about 60 in those with culottes/wide leg trouser things and she looked great imo
I've been thinking of them and I'm significantly older than you - but sadly I cannot justify yet another pair of trainers....

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/06/2019 23:24

I'd look like one of those tour bus grannies.

notabitfit · 24/06/2019 23:25

They're horrible.
They should not be worn by anyone of any age!

artio0 · 24/06/2019 23:28

I want a pair too now. I'm 32.

FamilyOfAliens · 24/06/2019 23:30

They should not be worn by anyone of any age!

My DD (24) looks amazing in hers. It’s a young person thing, though, so of course someone older isn’t going to like them. Not understanding young people’s tastes is as old as time.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 24/06/2019 23:34

If you can make them work for you and like them then go for it.

However I still can't believe these are back in fashion... I remember begging my mum for some chunky trainers like these when I was about 12, I just can't shake the image of me and my friends wearing Adidas poppers and chunky trainers thinking we were so cool.

fancynancyclancy · 24/06/2019 23:35

Think they would like a bit try hard on anyone over 25 now as they peaked 2017/2018. Get a similar but different brand pair.

russianoak · 24/06/2019 23:46

Absolutely hideous!

NorthernSpirit · 24/06/2019 23:53

My 13 year DSD has them. No no no....

Jammiebammie · 24/06/2019 23:55

My dds have these, I call them Tweenies shoes Grin

But... age is irrelevant. If you like them, wear them!

Onemorewonthurt · 24/06/2019 23:58

I have these, I'm 27. Go for it!

Miseryisabutterfly · 24/06/2019 23:59

Spice girls vibes. Can’t be dealing with them. There’s other Filas out there with a similar aesthetic but less chunky heel that I’d rather.

Peitho · 25/06/2019 00:02

I can't get my head around the fact that the ugly clunky 90s trainers are back. They look like something Bianca from Eastenders would have sold on her stall back in the day.

But your age shouldn't be the thing giving you pause. I'm always bemused by people so young worrying that something is too young for them.

Peitho · 25/06/2019 00:03

Someone break it to me gently, will Buffalo boots be back soon?

fakeniceperson · 25/06/2019 00:03

FGS why would you think you look ridiculous? Because you're 40 years old? The trainers? Both?

There's no age limit you know? Confused

AlphaJura · 25/06/2019 00:09

I'm 39 and I wanted them. Probably because they remind us of the 90s. The only reason I didn't get them is my younger sister (14) and my dd (11) and a few of her friends have them. In the end I went for some Filas called 'grunge'. They're a high top boot, fairly inoffensive, I got them in black. I don't think there's anything wrong with the ones you picked, not saying you can't because of your age. If you like them, go for it. I just didn't want to be wearing the same as all the youngsters I know.

ZazieTheCat · 25/06/2019 03:50

Not at all.

Best outfit I ever saw was on a guy in his eighties. Pinstripe three piece suit with watch chain, Royal Stewart (red tartan) bunnet (flat cap) and scarf 🧣, and red suede fila boots. Holding hands with his wife on the way from the football ground to the local pub. So much fucking style it would have made an Italian man weep.
