Will I look ridiculous?!

I'm 40 and want a pair of trainers like this

I think Katie price was wearing a neon yellow pair at her recent 'single launch' in Majorca. She's about 40! I thought they were buffalos to start with but on closer inspection, they were Filas. To the pp talking about the old guy in his red fila boots, my dp has got some red suede Filas 🤷🏼‍♀️. He's 40 though.

Ninkaninus · 25/06/2019 10:12

Tweenies shoes Grin

yearinyearout · 25/06/2019 10:17

They are aimed at twelve year olds

zukiecat · 25/06/2019 10:24

If you like them then just go for it! Who cares what anyone else thinks,

I say that as someone who hates trainers of any kind, I'm 52 and have never worn a pair in my life

Monday55 · 25/06/2019 10:33

they'll fit most with small feet. I'm shoe size 7 and had to send them back as they're too massive. Made me look like I had clown feet.

onelittleclara · 25/06/2019 10:46

I have a similar pair from Puma. I'm 45 this year. Who gives a stuff, seriously? Much prefer these to the converse and skechers worn by my peers, but that is just my taste. I liked some of the brightly coloured Filas but were very expensive. Stuff everyone else and wear what YOU like.

Thisismynewname123 · 25/06/2019 10:53

Both my 12 and 10 year old daughters are begging for Fila Disrupters. While I borrow my 12 year old's adidas, I wouldn't be able to borrow these from her. It really depends on how fashionable you are. I think you have to be a very trendy 40-something to carry them off.
@Fairylea - what are your daughters wearing instead? My dd's are currently wearing adidas which they want to replace with these (I've told them they have to wait to grow out of their current trainers. They're not happy with that). I haven't seen converse on any of their friends recently.

sweetiepie1979 · 25/06/2019 10:56

Oh god I love trainers but they are bad!

GroggyLegs · 25/06/2019 15:10

It's a no from me, but only because they're fugly. If you want them, go for it!

I'm now deeply regretting losing track of my buffalo boots after uni 20 years ago. They were fabulous.

Ostagazuzulum · 25/06/2019 15:31

I've been looking at those and I'm 40! My husband snorted with laughter when I showed him but who cares! He's clearly not as cool as me!! Grin the only thing holding me back at mo is what can I wear with them? I'm 5'1 and size 12-small 14 and can't work out what I can wear them with. culottes are a no no as I have big thighs (legs like chicken drumsticks).

small2018 · 25/06/2019 17:32

@Ostagazuzulum - wear them with skinny jeans?

Someone break it to me gently, will Buffalo boots be back soon?

They've been and gone. Browns East were selling them last year but now they're all in the sale as they're "so last season". Grin

Peitho · 25/06/2019 19:15

Thank God the brief Buffalo renaissance passed me by. That was one of the fugliest trends ever! Grin

There was another type of shoe that was popular at the time. It was like a wedge sandal crossed with a trainer.

Oh the 1990s.

MoltonSilver · 25/06/2019 19:50

My 9 year old niece has those fila trainers. They are considered the height of cool amongst her primary school friends. Based in that I'm going to say, yes, you're too old.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 25/06/2019 20:16

Do you mean these: because I loved mine but they really were hideous.

I'm 40 and want a pair of trainers like this
Peitho · 25/06/2019 20:28

That's them! Grin

Like orthopaedic shoes for elderly Jetson strippers.

SinglePringle · 25/06/2019 20:33

Meh to the naysayers. I’ve got a similar pair and I’m over 50. Wore mine today with a midi shirt dress and enormous hoop earrings.

I bloody love living and working in an environment where no gives AF.

PoppadomPeach · 25/06/2019 20:44

My 3yo DD gravitated towards these in JD on Saturday. She kept telling me she wanted those shoes and was desperate to try them on. I thought they were hideous but said yes. She couldn't lift her feet off the ground and looked as though she had stuck her feet into two tissue boxes.
We went for Gazelles instead Grin

Anyway OP. If you want to wear them, do it! They're not to my taste but clearly my 3yo knows more about fashion than I do!

blackcat2345 · 25/06/2019 21:07

12 year old DD wears them and I still think they're ugly

Ellapaella · 25/06/2019 22:40

Instagrammers will say they're cool. Personally I think they look a bit try hard verging on fashion victim. Sorry but you did ask.

Ellapaella · 25/06/2019 22:41

I feel mean now, sorry op. If you like them you should go for it.

Peitho · 25/06/2019 22:54

Some people like to try hard when it comes to their fashion choices!

needsomesleepy · 25/06/2019 22:57

Commonly referred to as Dinosaur Stompers Grin

sharpstick · 25/06/2019 23:02

I really like them!

But my 11 year old dd and her friends all wear them so I wouldn’t get a pair myself.

Platform vans could be another option?

Ninkaninus · 25/06/2019 23:27

I grinned at the Tweenies reference and forgot to comment again to say that if you love them and really want them then of course you can wear them, regardless of your age!
