I am NOT enjoying choosing my wedding dress - pics

Pinkarsedfly · 16/04/2019 21:22

I’m getting married on my 45th birthday, in just a couple of weeks - and I’m so excited.

Except I’m at my fattest. Ever. And suddenly who I feel I am inside doesn’t match what’s in the mirror.

I simply can’t find a dress that suits me.

I keep thinking I’ve found ‘the one’ - then I see the pics and just feel I look heinous, and back it goes.

If I show the pics, can anyone out there give me honest feedback, make suggestions etc?

It’s a tiny registry office wedding followed by a nice dinner after.

TIA

I loved both the cream/gold bombshell one and the red rixi one you posted OP.

Order both the dresses and then post pics.

Agree with bra comments. Panache are a good brand.

Widowodiw · 17/04/2019 08:00

@Pinkarsedfly yes that bombshell dress is the precise dress you should be trying on.

Pinkarsedfly · 17/04/2019 08:04

Wow, some brilliant ideas and advice here! I’m so glad I started this thread.

I love the Caroline Kilkenny dresses, and have totally fallen in love with Prett Eccentric - particularly this one

It’s fantastic having all this support. Speaking of which, I’m off to Bravissimo on Thursday to get the girls measured and corralled. Again, thanks to you lot Smile

Loving this thread, looking forward to more pics soon. I agree with everyone else that you look lovely and seem lovely your soon to be DH is a lucky man. Have you thought about hair and make-up yet? Sorry if missed that part.....

Also can you get into town with a girlfriend and just try on lots and lots of dresses? I always get lucky at Hobbs and Reiss....

Pinkarsedfly · 17/04/2019 08:07

To the PP who asked if I like Joe Browns - that’s where the red shoes are from!

My problem is, my taste and personality is floaty hippie boho, but it seems these days my body has turned into something hourglass that needs structure.

I’m honestly not a bombshell kind of person. I want to waft!

I love your self description!

golddustwomen · 17/04/2019 08:09

Dress 1 or 2. I don't like dress 3 at all.
You are stunning op Smile hope you have a wonderful day and a lifetime of happiness x

kmammamalto · 17/04/2019 08:11

OP you've had some amazing help with actual dresses but I just wanted to pop in and say I think that sometimes shopping for your wedding dress is as awful as shopping for anything else! It's not the magical experience we are sold at all! I was skinnier than ever (thank you bf) when I started shopping and still hated it. They put unreal models in dresses that are for everyday folk and we just can't look how we think we might! I'm now going to be 17 weeks preggers when we get married and at that is she fat or pregnant stage! And I feel even worse about my dress!
BUT. What is most important is the day itself your DP is marrying you because he loves you just the way you are. And you will glow with happiness because you'll be marrying him for the same reasons! Your dress is a small part of a on amazing day. So chose the one you feel best in and then focus on all of the other little things that will make your day magical. I think there is so much pressure on a wedding dress, when at the end of the day, it's just a dress on another day of the rest of your life. You are NOT fat at all, you'll look fantastic and you also sound like an amazing person and so you will have a lovely day.
Update us when you get your next dresses but please don't stress. Xx

TK Maxx have some glory Catherine Deane dresses in atm online here

NW2SW · 17/04/2019 08:16

Floaty! Not glory Confused

IM0GEN · 17/04/2019 08:16

Ah, so that’s why you feel fat and frumpy . Because in your head you are a wraith, with flowers casually twisted through your long strawberry bonding curls which tumble to your waist, floating through the forest on your tiny bare feet.

But when you look in the mirror you see a middle aged woman with an arse and boobs. So when we all say “ no you are not fat, yes you are shapely and sexy “ it feels all wrong, it’s not you.

Is that right ?

Pinkarsedfly · 17/04/2019 08:17

kmammalto that’s a lovely thing to say, thank you.

And don’t worry - my niece recently got married at a similar stage of pregnancy to you and she absolutely glowed - I’ve never seen a more gorgeous bride. You’ll be beautiful.

OP the last red dress you posted is simply gorgeous! Beautiful.

I know you prefer the floaty dresses, but they don't do your figure (which is lovely by the way) as many favours. The add a bit of frumpiness unfortunately. I would be the same. And I'm a similar shape to you (and the same age).

I hope the red one is amazing! But totally think you are on the right track. Finding a wedding dress is so much pressure. Hang in there Star

Newmumma83 · 17/04/2019 08:27

You look lovely in dress two, the colour on dress 1 drains you ... but you are stunning.

You need t get a personal shopper or even hit a wedding dress shop they will
Show you what style with suit your body ... they are not all big poofy dresses, even look at bridesmaid styles ... you may not go with them but at least you will either find a new style that you prefer or be extra
Confident just how hot you look in your current choice.

If your Kent based Victoria grace bridal in FAversham were amazing, bridesmaid dresses started from £159 ... the wedding dresses from around £300 ... I was a size 18 ... ( slimmed down to that ) but fell pregnant and was nearly 5 months when I walked down the aisle ... they worked miracles on me and for me i looked hot x x

Montagu90 · 17/04/2019 08:28

OP can I just say you look stunning-beautiful figure and such a pretty face. Whatever you wear, you will look gorgeous!!

My advice is to go for colour!! Avoid beige and peach-it washed you out. The best outfit of your photos was the one with red flowers-the shape was wrong but the colour made your eyes pop!

I like you last link, the red dress. Xx

Newmumma83 · 17/04/2019 08:28

They have red dresses black white pink ( then a whole range of bridesmaid colours ) floral designs , they have 50’s style and Greek goddess style dresses but they will
Take one look and know Hayley and Emma are amazing xx

Pinkarsedfly · 17/04/2019 08:35

I’m at the other end of the country to Kent, I’m afraid.

Shame - sounds like I could do with Hayley and Emma!

Red dress looks amazing and that Bravissimo visit sounds as if it will be great. That’s twice in two days I’ve posted about Bravissimo on two separate threads. Honestly MN, no connection, just love them.

Had never heard of many of the brands mentioned here. Style advice is amazing too. You have started such a public service thread, pinkarsedfly. Smile

GreenTulips · 17/04/2019 08:43

Love both of the red ones you posted OP. The stars one is very glam and probably more what you had in mind

I’m glad your embracing the red - you obviously like it!!

wellhonestly · 17/04/2019 08:44

Of the 3 photos, Dress2 was the nicest on you.

Dress 3 had too high a neckline for your lovely figure. (I don't suit high necklines either being blessed of nork, this is what I know.)

I agree with others who said v-neck and a bit of structure. A scoop neck might be ok too, but still a bit of structure around the bodice and sleeves. Maybe you could incorporate a bit of floatiness in the sleeves? There are a lot of "angel" sleeves or split sleeves around and they can be quite flattering with the right neckline.

I disagree with the recommendations to go for midi styles, they tend to hit on an unflattering place on the calf. I think on the knee or just below so you can still see the curve of the calf. But it's quite hard to find a non-midi dress at the moment. Massively overthinking it here! Bare shoulders will make your top half look huge generous.

If you are set on a pale colour, I think a pale duck-egg blue would look nice on you.

purpleunicorns · 17/04/2019 08:45

Ooh that red dress is gorgeous! I'm sure you'll look amazing in whatever you wear. Photos please of the wedding! Smile

wellhonestly · 17/04/2019 08:45

PS the red star dress seems a bit low-cut, how would you wear a bra with that???

Pinkarsedfly · 17/04/2019 08:49

wellhonestly yes, that’s my worry. Blooming tits.

OP posts:
billybagpuss · 17/04/2019 08:54

Dress 2 with those shoes is stunning, dress 1 gorgeous but the shoes are shouting look at me, dress 3 gorgeous but it’s very bold and overshadows you.

I haven’t rtf but I think someone mentioned bra and that’s why you’re not feeling it. I find John Lewis slightly better than bravissimo but both are good and a decent bra would slightly change your posture. Making you feel better.

Have an amazing day
