fuzzy, it’s lovely to see you back. Hope DH continues to improve.

laska, I find Joules jackets very small, which is odd given the rest of their stuff is pretty accurate. Your DH does sound a little stressed. I’ve said before, I didn’t find retirement the great experience I had imagined, it’s a huge adjustment.

I ordered a jumpsuit and a dress from Boden last week in their 25% off. It WAS dispatched to the correct address but Hermes delivered it to the same street address somewhere in London. Boden sent another order out for me straight away, but despite it being on the dispatch note the jumpsuit is missing. Clearly not meant to have this! Anyway, I have meanwhile ordered one from Bravissimo, so hopefully that will come tomorrow.

I’m enjoying working through my pre-course material, but there is something very ‘samey’ in the style advice. A lot of the clothes are formal - working in The City, going to Ascot etc, rather than menopausal woman feeling frumpy and wanting to develop a functional but stylish look that makes her feel good.

@Laska2Meryls sounds like you need a glass of wine this evening. 🍷🍷 That's a bit of a surprise with your DH.. not sure what I'd think about my DH doing that, I mean I wouldn't mind but I'd be a bit surprised. Hope he's ok (panic attack wise) - I guess retiring can being on a few anxieties and a bit of self doubt and maybe a bit of an identity crisis?
Re sizing someone posted something on a FB group that I'm on last night about a size 8 pair of H&M shorts being larger than the size 10! Crazy stuff.

neveradullmoment99 · 07/05/2019 20:04

59! Wow...thats quite young for retiring. I think it sounds a bit like @ella said, an identity crisis. we very much identify ourselves by what we do.

dontcallmelen · 07/05/2019 20:08

Cherries sounds a bit formulaic at the moment, hopefully course content will expand a bit.
Yy silly sizing I’m really fed up with it, my weight/shape hasn’t really changed for a long time, but I am now having to buy clothes in a much smaller size than I really am, even footwear sizing has got bigger.

Laska2Meryls · 07/05/2019 20:18

yes it is young, but he has been very keen to do so for some years ,and me too Tbh, .. Im sure he will be fine, the first few weeks are going t be a bit strange..
Re earrings, I dont mind, but i was surprised and a bit shocked as although he had mentioned it before , Id completely forgotten.. yes i'd have referred just one, ear , but then its his body ..

ilovecherries · 07/05/2019 20:25

I was just past my 54th birthday when I retired. It was forced to an extent, I was working at a national level in the NHS and we’d had so many political redesigns in the previous years, and this one had my name on it. I had 34 years service, and was out the door within 19 days of them offering me to go. No retirement planning opportunity at all, and I just hadn’t seen it coming. No retirement ‘do’ or anything, just retuned my car and IT and walked out the door. I think I was actually quite traumatised for months.

What a pain about the jackets laska. I agree sizing is bonkers... I understand about vanity sizing (a gorgeous size 12 skirt I saw the other day in a charity shop had a 26 inch waist... Which is a 6 or 8 I think today) , but you're right that even in one brand its totally inconsistent.. I think I agree with never that you don't really need 2 of the same jacket. Though maybe in the morning when you're less stressed/tired you can consider again. I agree with the others that it sounds as if your DH is going to have difficulty adjusting to retirement. Does he have anything to "do"? (hobby, or something to prepare for, or finishing off tail ends of work or something?) He does sound quite young to retire. Maybe he should do like cherries and start something totally different!

How odd about the boden jumpsuit, cherries! It may make its way to you eventually... Maybe your "usp" as a stylist should be getting away from formal stuff, then, and doing more day to day style.. if the training focuses on that, it sounds like there will be a glut of stylists who can do formal/work but not so much casual stuff...

Quick question... Has anyone tried the Jamie t shirt dress on brand alley? It's a good price, and it could be good as a "throw on dress"... But equally, it could well channel a potato sack quite easily with me in it... What's the sizing like? (And no, I don't need any more dresses, but hey...)

ilovecherries · 07/05/2019 20:32

I had it last year in leopard and in grey. I returned the grey as it was very sack like. Let me see if I can find a pic of the leopard one.

This was last summer, so I still had boobs. It’s a size 12 - it’s really too big for me now, so I would def size down.

I have the faded red Valerie dress from a couple of seasons ago and really like it , but I think the neck is lower on mine?

ilovecherries · 07/05/2019 20:54

He, I tried that one in the sale last summer laska, but it had a tip in it when it arrived. Have just checked the Jamie, sheep, it’s actually a small and at that point I was a 12 on the bottom but a very generous 14 on top.

NotAnActualSheep · 07/05/2019 21:22

Thanks cherries! You look fab in that! But I assume it is the grey one on BA, which doesn't sound promising on the sack front... I'd order it to see, but returns are such a pain.

ilovecherries · 07/05/2019 21:29

Found a picture of the washed black as well, which is the one on brand alley. Looked at my Hush orders, was also a small.

Love thoseT shirt dresses.
Quick question, maybe for @dontcallmelen as you are decorator extraordinaire - I have these radiators and want the decorators to give the one in new kitchen a lick of paint before fitting it back - can I just use standard radiator paint for this? Anyone know?

dontcallmelen · 08/05/2019 10:02

Ella yes that’s fine, satin or eggshell is also ok as well.

dontcallmelen · 08/05/2019 10:14

Sorry lost half my post, radiator paint something like hammerite is probably more hardwearing, but it’s a pig to work with if decorators are doing it then it’s fine.
Ooh exciting is the work on kitchen, being started?

SoyYo · 08/05/2019 10:16

Hello I got distracted with another thread Blush most unlike me but I’m having an unnatural quiet time at work (calm before the storm methinks) and now catching up.

I see @len has answered what I would have done. What colour are you going for @ella?

I also have the Jamie t shirt dress in the pattern that @cherries posted upthread. I ❤️ It and had it in my BA basket but as it was black I deleted. I mean how many black summer dresses does a girl need? Wink

SoyYo · 08/05/2019 10:17

@never I’ll get the kimonos tomorrow (UPS text alert) so how exciting! We can compare and hope @huff and @not will join that party Smile

SoyYo · 08/05/2019 10:23

@laska don’t worry about DH! Yes a bit unexpected but if he had mentioned the ear piercing before (even if a long time ago) then it’s obviously something that had been on his mind for a while. My DH is totally the opposite: won’t have any piercings/tatoos (I have a tattoo on my back from misspent youth) even though we hang with the biker crew who are usually covered in them. Won’t wear a watch or even a wedding ring! Nada de Nada so each to their own.

I’m on day 3 of 800 fast diet and it requires a will of iron. I’ll see if I can manage 5 days then have a wee break over the weekend and do 5 more days next week. Then I’ll stop and do 5:2 I’m not used to being this hard on myself Grin but the gut seems to be deflating slowly. DH is not doing it but has cut out all the choc eating and sugary rubbish and so he is being inspired by my determination Smile

Laska2Meryls · 08/05/2019 10:26

Ithink we are near the end of the thread? I can't see the post numbers on my phone , ..
Most to report , day from hell yesterday ( work and other stuff . But all ok ) .. Today I am again Hush Max .Hush Leopard leggings , black long vest and charcoal wide top ..
Military jacket going back , I'll decide on the other wren later in week, ( I know I don't need it but like it )

Laska2Meryls · 08/05/2019 10:28

My diet is still going to pot ,I reckon it will be whale on the beach this year.. 😔

Laska2Meryls · 08/05/2019 10:45

Day from hell, is because ( I think I mentioned it here before?) Is that potentially l was due to inherit a fair amount of money ( well a fair amount for for me who has never earned a lot ). Also another relative has always desputed this. I've been not engaging with this for years but it's finally happening, so I'm getting a lot of grief from said relative .. .sigh.
It will pass, and I'll never have to be in contact with them again but right now it's a bit shit..

Laska2Meryls · 08/05/2019 10:47

Have had to get solicitor involved as well , all be stressful Sad

dontcallmelen · 08/05/2019 11:09

Aww Laska that sounds really horrible for you, nothing like money to really bring out the very worst in people💐

SoyYo · 08/05/2019 11:18

Take care dear Laska i understand more than most what a nightmare these family inheritance issues are like. Stay strong and positive Flowers
