Hope all invalids and mini-invalids are feeling a bit better today. We are about to commence yet another trek to Scotland to get the garden at home under control. DD is actually fairly good at keeping it semi-decent, but between her dissertation, her project and her car accident, along with her health, it’s got away from her a bit and I thinking she’s now overwhelmed with it. Hopefully if the weather is decent and all three of us muck in, we’ll get it back into a position where she can manage it. Our garden here is also a jungle - the lease says that managing the garden is the landlord’s responsibility has it has ‘precious plants’ he doesn’t want destroyed, but then it’s only been done twice in nearly three years, so it becomes embarrassing and we end up having to do that as well. And I’ve yet to identify these ‘precious plants’, they all look exactly like the bog standard Dobbies’ plants we have at home.

On the clothes front, I’m all about the polka dots just now. I’m wearing a polka dot tea dress from Warehouse today (May have to change actually, not as warm as I thought), and it reminds me so much of the dresses my mum used to get ‘cut out and ready to sew’ from the Woman’s Realm in the 1960s. Although those were always a beautiful cotton poplin, rather than viscose.

Morning all,

@ella your poor ds, what a tough day. Hope he enjoyed the curry after all that! Hope he is doing ok and that you both got some sleep. How is he today?

@soy hope you are feeling a bit better today.

So much for my no/low spend! Just ordered a bag from Aurora London I had my eye on for a while - a Gigi cross body in red. I managed to get a 10% discount but even so.....feel a bit guilty.

twosoups1972 · 03/05/2019 11:45

cherries hope the gardening goes well, I know nothing about plants! How is your dd now? Is the dissertation finished? Is she getting over the shock of the accident?

Clothes-wise - I am currently dressed in what we call my 'temporary outfit' Grin This consists of leggings, uggs and my Nessa (Gavin and Stacey) hoodie. And no bra! These are the clothes I can jump into if I need to leave the house quickly. And I did today - there was a problem with buses and I got a call from a distressed dd3 who was worried about being late for school. So I jumped into my clothes, got her from the bus stop and dropped her at school Smile I will get dressed properly soon!

Huffthepuff · 03/05/2019 11:56

OMG @twosoups1972 I love that bag! Very tempted to get one! (Next month tho, I think 2 Marina's and 2 pairs of shoes is probably enough for 1 month 🙈) Good choice with the red too, very Gucci

Huffthepuff · 03/05/2019 12:00

Can you take a pic when it arrives so I can get an idea of size and how long the strap is please? 🙏

twosoups1972 · 03/05/2019 12:57

Yes of course @huff x

twosoups1972 · 03/05/2019 13:01

Been busy (read - last minute panic) with dd's birthday. Didn't think about a cake till yesterday Blush We are having a posh afternoon tea tomorrow but still, it didn't seem right to have an 18th birthday with no cake. Found someone locally who can make it at a reasonable price and dd can take the rest of the cake back to school to share with her friends. Just nipping out to get another small gift for her - a make up brush pot which I will fill with chocolates. Main pressies are an Olivia Burton watch and a necklace. Probably gone a bit mad and spoilt her buy hey ho. My mum's very much NOT the doting grandma so I always get my dds a few extra pressies.

ilovecherries · 03/05/2019 13:29

Omg, that bag is gorgeous. Truly, truly covetable. My mum now and again insists on giving me money to ‘buy something nice’ and I try only to let her do so about once in four times, but she won the argument last week, and when she does win, I like to get something very tangible and special that she can see me getting pleasure out of using, and that has longevity. That bag would fit that brief perfectly Grin. I bet on Hush, that bag would be about 175, so actually, it’s a proper bargain, soups. You should congratulate yourself on your parsimony, I think!

And another OMG, my pre course work has arrived and I’m now in a serious state of terror at what I’ve done. This is the woman who for decades dressed herself out of the men’s section in Mountain Warehouse, and now I’m sallying off to do personal styling training. Got a serious case of imposter syndrome going on right now. But...I do want to do this for myself, I don’t ever HAVE to style anyone else. I look at Ella and Never (and there will be others here, these are the just two who spring to mind), who seem to understand effortlessly how outfits work, and I suspect there must be underlying principles, which may be unconscious for effortlessly stylish people, but which people like me could learn. Surely??? But meanwhile, realisation has hit me that I need to dress myself in a not too horrific way for 7 days in a room with gorgeous people. Maybe the amazingness of my boob job can carry me through. Argh.

Laska2Meryls · 03/05/2019 13:43

I think that need to rename myself Laska4Wrens!!
1 sent back yesterday and 3 more in the post! BlushGrin
2 green and 1 more blue , range of sizes 10-14 ..surely one will fit..

And I am going Spring jacket mad here , and trying this Joules one

Huffthepuff · 03/05/2019 14:16

I think we will need your 'refer a friend' from Aurora @twosoups1972 😂 15% off would make it even more affordable. I'm definitely going to order one if you like yours when it arrives.

I think the course is a brilliant idea. Do you use Pinterest much @ilovecherries ? You can create a mood board/lookbook on there which could help as a starting point for what you'll wear during the college days. It helps me figure out what it is about certain looks that I like

Thanks again for the messages, you’re all so caring 🙏

So I’m in the car with DH in the wilds of Norfolk on our way to the beach shack, I took half a day off work. Face swelling starting to go down...slowly. Saw dentist at midday and he confirms it’s not my teeth (still no toothache which he said would be raging if the swelling was due to teeth), took x ray just in case (I had x rays on my annual checkup last Nov, but still...) and congratulated me on insisting the GP gave me antibiotics yesterday.
He said likely cause is sinus infection.

It’s fotecasted to be awful weather actually till Sunday but we’ll still do something fun tomorrow like visit Holt or Norwich. (Shopping maybe Wink). We just stopped in Swafham Waitrose for lunch and provisions on the way and they have 25% off Neals Yard so treated myself to lavender bath salts and frankincense nourishing cream.

@Ella I’m glad your DS was allowed home last night (you’re right of course only because he has the full medical backup there Smile) and do hope he’s quite comfortable today. Put his siblings on fetch duty!

@soups wishing the birthday is a huge success and DD has a very happy day. That bag looks beautiful so yes do let us know.

@cherries safe journey up north and hope your DD is in good spirits. You’re inspirational never forget that and can hold your own anywhere and with anyone. You feel the fear and do it anyway.

@laska Grin how many spring jackets do you need? I like you covering all possible basis

Today I’m wearing stripe Amies with the Rose jumper from last SS sale. I haven’t worn together in absolute ages and cheered me up despite the elephant man slowly deflating half face. With black trainers and black leather jacket. Like being in your jammies but pretending not to Wink

twosoups1972 · 03/05/2019 15:38

huff and cherries very happy to do refer a friend, I think I just need your email address? PM if you’d like me to do it. And cherries your mum sounds fabulous! I’m always in awe of these fab mums, my own is a bit rubbish. Is it too late for me to be adopted? Grin Oh well, at least I have great relationships with my own dds.

twosoups1972 · 03/05/2019 15:42

Grin at laska’s spring jacket frenzy!

justilou1 · 03/05/2019 15:48

So happy to hear that your face is feeling better, @Soy! Also glad it’s not a tooth! Imagine if that was cooking up over the weekend and while you were away. I know it sounds gross, but I’m a big fan of irrigating sinuses with a solution of warm water with a couple of teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda. It doesn’t hurt as much as salt and it is more effective for killing bugs. (My family is prone to allergies and sinus issues.) It might help alleviate some of the pain.

How was DH’s first day as a retiree, @Laska? How did you survive? I hope you had a special dinner and lots of lovely wine or g&t to celebrate.

Definitely think a Pinterest board is a great idea @Cherries! We can all follow you and suggest stuff for you. You can probably use it all for your course. (Bet you’ve been all over that already for years!)

ilovecherries · 03/05/2019 17:39

I’ve never actually used Pinterest but I think I need to remedy that. Have just let e service station an DH now driving. It’s freezing

@ilovecherries I love Pinterest- it's great for ideas on putting outfits together. Also love to see real people in real clothes though so I love people watching.
I reckon you'll be great at the stylist stuff - you always look great in your photos and you know what pulls an outfit together.
For me it's all about awareness - I pay a lot of attention to what other people are wearing - not in a judgey way at all but if someone looks good in something I try and really 'see' what it is about them or their outfit that looks good if that makes sense. I'm really intrigued to know what it is that makes someone really stylish. I don't think it's about their figure or their looks. I think confidence plays a huge part - the way a person holds them self, their posture - you can tell if someone feels good in what they're wearing.
Going from photos on here (the most regular posters) I'd say Laska has great style - quite an edgy look, causal chic.
Never and I are quite similar in our tastes I think. Never understands the details that pull an outfit together and is very clever at that. Also a shoe fanatic like me - I reckon never often plans an outfit around the shoes she's wearing!
Soyo - always looks good. A glamorous, elegant look. Again always chooses clothes that flatter her figure and has a good understanding of that.
Huff - lovely figure and always looks good. Has an eye for something a bit different and not afraid to try something a bit bohemian (thinking specifically of that lovely jacket she bought the end of last year).
And you Cherries - you always look great. You are very clever at accessories, your style has really developed so well over the course of these threads. In my memory my very favourite outfit of you was the leopard print top and white jeans from last summer - you totally rocked that outfit! Loving your leather jackets too.
Sorry for rambling.. just a few musings over a cup of tea. It's been a long day and I would love nothing more than a glass of wine but as I'm responsible for dishing out DS's morphine every 4 hours I want to keep a clear head!

Sorry if I haven't mentioned anyone - you are all gorgeous and I always love your photos, just reflecting on the ones that post the most.
Am very envious of you doing that course cherries. If I win the lotto maybe I'll do it too and we could set up a partnership 😁

dontcallmelen · 03/05/2019 20:55

Just catching up.
Soy hope it settles soon & at least antibiotics usually kick in quickly enjoy the weekend & plenty of R&R💐
Ella hope Ds is comfortable & pain is not too bad, poor Ds💐
Soups hope all the celebrations goes well, gifts sound fab enjoy🎂
Bag is lovely as well.
Laska 😂 at the overload of jackets, just to tempt you a bit more Monsoon have a lovely khaki one, it’s £60.00 I think, I’m annoyed with myself I had a lovely khaki jacket from Laura Ashley & cannot find it anywhere, must have left it somewhere.
cherries safe journey & hoping weather holds for the gardening was laughing to myself at precious plants, I love the idea of gardening but am rubbish at it, so I waft around demanding Dh makes the garden look pretty & painting stuff, I painted his ‘Mans shed’ last summer blue & white & made gingham curtains for the window, he was not impressed😂
Yy pin interest, also so you will have so many willing badgers here to help & we are such a wide range of shapes/ages you will be top of the class! Believe in yourself & grasp it with both hands & most of all enjoy it.

Huffthepuff · 03/05/2019 21:58

Awh lovely words @Ellapaella 🥰 what a supportive thread this is. Incidentally that jacket you mention has become one of the most useful items in my wardrobe and i get compliments every time I wear it. Looks fab over the Black S/S Ivy or the Layton dress with slouchy suede tan boots. Will try and take a pic at some point. It's one of the outfits that makes me feel like the best version of me (which doesn't happen often).

Hope you are continuing to feel better Soy 💐

justilou1 · 04/05/2019 05:49

@Huff - I was thinking how lovely this thread is as a community of women. I keep hearing how women keep dragging other women down and yet this definitely proves that theory wrong, doesn't it??? Either we are exceptionally nice humans (probably true) or that theory has been put out there by misogynists who need it for political reasons. I suspect the latter.
@Twosoups - the bag is to die for!!! I never wear red, but I would make an exception just for that bag!!! (Actually love the tan one!)

neveradullmoment99 · 04/05/2019 07:37

Such lovely comments @Ella. Thank youStar🥰
I think you are right about the similar tastes and love shoes/ boots esp and do plan outfits around themGrin
Hope everyone is good. soyo Hope your face swelling is away, Ella Hope ds is on the mend and cherries hope everything is ok with dd. Such a difficult time for her. Having you back must make a huge difference. You are a wonderful mum.
As for me, its a beautiful day today. Ordered the flowery kimono from hush as had a referral so got it for £60. Still overpriced but i really like the idea of it. Sized down as these are often made large. Should come today. Will post an update😁

DoorsAndWater · 04/05/2019 07:47

Hi all, there is some Hush on Brandalley, worth a look Smile

grannycake · 04/05/2019 08:07

Thanks "doors" Grabbed a few things

whiskyremorse · 04/05/2019 08:12

@doors well spotted! Nothing I fancy in my size though sadly

ilovecherries · 04/05/2019 08:22

Thanks you Ella, that’s lovely of you. And Never for the lovely comments. DD is ok, a bit up and done, but hopefully in the next few weeks she will get her results, be reassured about her health, get the sodding car fixed/replaced and can start to relax.
