Shock 41 years !

Laska2Meryls · 01/05/2019 20:53

oh and he still fits the Paul Smith suit! He wore it to a wedding only last year ..

Laska2Meryls · 01/05/2019 21:01

I can imagine that a St Patricks Day wedding was lots of fun!!
(I'd have loved to have been there!)

SoyYo · 01/05/2019 21:03

Well I think my wedding was the cheapest so there! Grin
I’ll tell you tomorrow as watching a tv programme with DH but to say love reading your wedding stories ❤️

dontcallmelen · 01/05/2019 21:16

Laska you would have loved it, dh’s brothers played the guitar & saxophone everyone was jammin n singing.
We used to always go out with my parents & my dads family on St.Patricks night & DF used to serenade us with the anniversary waltz song (DF had an amazing tenor voice) as he said he always felt so guilty about not approving of the wedding.

dontcallmelen · 01/05/2019 21:17

Awww Soy now you have to spill the beans😂😂pleeeese

Ellapaella · 01/05/2019 21:52

That's a lovely photo @Laska2Meryls
We've been together for 15 years and like you Laska, DH and I both had a child each when we met (both single parents). We only got married fairly recently and ours wasn't an expensive affair. We just had a nice simple ceremony with immediate family and our oldest friends in a registry office followed by lunch in our favourite Italian restaurant (which is delicious but cheap) then we threw a big party in our local pub in the evening for our wider circle of friends to join.
Ours was not an expensive wedding as we hadn't saved any money for it (too busy spending it on houses, kids and everything else). It was the very best of days though and a thoroughly good knees up in the evening.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/05/2019 22:29

Lovely picture @Laska :)
I got married at 20. We got married in a registry office. It was a very small affair with a couple of witnesses. That was it. We were also pretty poor. We didn't have a lot of money so it was a meal and then home to our babies who were 6 months old.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/05/2019 22:31

@soyo, love the stripey marina. I like the other things too. The print on the dress is gorgeous.

miffy2 · 01/05/2019 22:48

Hello all my lovely hushistas! Sorry I have been awol...I was on my big holiday to South Africa. What a wonderful trip. It was not our first time but we managed to see different parts of the Kruger area. We were right up north near the Mozambique border (very very rural and very hot) and then we finished off down south of the park in a most luxurious lodge for 3 nights where we just vegged and did nothing. We saw so many different animals and birds, including 3 lionesses out hunting at night, right outside my dad's grounds (!) as well as a sleeping leopard in Kruger (our first sighting of one in the wild). Simply amazing.

As it was so hot (28-35 degrees) I wore mostly shorts and light Ts (the Peacock Ts came in very handy, so thank you for the recommendation, @Ella). For the last 3 nights we had to dress a little less casually so I wore my Hush leopard maxi from last year and the grey linen dress I got from Zara.

I got great wear out of my black harems and Monaco trousers too, for evening time and travel. I think I may splash out and get the Monaco in the navy blue as I have lots of tops that would go with them.

I am also tempted by either the red/pink zebra jumper and the Beatrice in navy...I think the Beatrice would suit my wardrobe better as I imagine it would look fab with pale blue or white jeans and shorts.
@Laska do you have the Beatrice in green? If so what do you think?

Anyway that is my update; I have been diving in and out of the thread as wifi was pretty scarce and you all look fab as usual. I especially love the marinas, both navy/white and multi striped. Definite yesses.

SoyYo · 01/05/2019 22:51

Ah Thanks @never. Sounds like you and I can compete for the lowest key wedding then but yours is hard to beat ❤️
And isn’t it funny we are all happily married decades on?
Tbh I’ve never been someone into the wedding lark. Our story is quite simple really. Fell in love madly (25 and 30). Decided to sell everything and go backpacking round the world for a year. Got back to U.K. and had to get a mortgage/jobs for our first proper home together.
Every month I’d get a marriage proposal but the thought of the wasted money, the family expectations etc kept putting us off.
That was all 31 years ago. We carried on for a few more years living together till my 29th when he said oh stop taking the pill, let’s have a baby. And I got pregnant in like a millisecond of those famous words. Grin
So I think I must have been 6 weeks pregnant when he said “what are you doing next Friday”? And I said “don’t know yet” And he said “Good cause we’re getting married” to which I replied “As long as I don’t have to do a thing!”
And so it was we told no family till after the deed was done (took them a while to forgive us for robbing them of buying a hat and all that jazz). We invited our closest or closest friends only: just 10 in total.
Registry office. I had a pale pink skirt/jacket from Next, a lace body underneath from M&S and I looked beautiful because I was young and we were in love and totally happy to be expecting our first baby.
I did have a bouquet of fresh flowers. A perfectly nice Registry office. Lunch with our mates in a nice country pub. And back to our house for partying till dawn broke.
Absolutely perfect.
No Stress. Only good memories. And hardly any cash we could ill afford spent Wink

SoyYo · 01/05/2019 23:02

Hola miffy! My Spanish speaking Hush Amiga Smile so very nice to read you and know you had such an amazing holiday! SA is indeed so beautiful and the sleeping leopard sounds amazing.
So you did it justice by wearing his skirt one night! Wink I was thinking of my leopard and how I’m looking forward to giving it an outing soon...
On the Beatrice I have it in the bright blue. I had to size down to XS it’s that huge but provided you go down 2 sizes from your usual Hush you’ll love it.
Mine is the really bright blue Beatrice so quite a warm...I wore it with navy blue trousers for work in París a couple of weeks ago and someone told me the colour really suited me.
Did you mean the Beatrice jumper or the new v neck wide top? Because I had that too (pic upthread) and not convinced it’s worth the £ so I’ve returned.
Huge 👍 for the Beatrice jumper though.
Espero volver a leerte pronto! x

dontcallmelen · 01/05/2019 23:02

Aww that’s lovely Soy & never Ella 💕💕
Miffy that sounds a truly wondrous trip, some amazing sights indeed.

ilovecherries · 01/05/2019 23:08

We had only met three months before we got married. We had both been right on the point of marrying other people when we met Blush. I would be beside myself if DD married at 23 to someone she’d just met, I don’t know how my parents stayed calm! Anyway, both of us lost most of our friends as they all stayed loyal to the jilted parties. Neither of us seemed to have a moment of doubt from the instant we met though, which with hindsight was ridiculous. We’ve been very fortunate it all worked out. Very small church wedding, mainly with a few friends of my parents (I have no real family), and a selection of DH’s extended family. I did have a long white, very plain and simple dress, managing to just get in before the 80s Diana clone meringue dresses. I think DH did wear a morning suit, but the photos are at home.

neveradullmoment99 · 01/05/2019 23:15

Im the same as you @soyo, weddings are just not my thing and I really cant be bothered with all the fuss. Mine was plain and simple and basically a bit of a procedure!

SoyYo · 01/05/2019 23:36

@cherries that’s a romantic tale! True love is like that. You just know 💕
And @ella your wedding also sounds lovely and low key 💖
I will just say even in my penniless youth Next in the late 80’s/early 90’s used to feel a lot more upmarket than now, so that pink suit was stretching it a bit (but still hundreds cheaper than many of my friends wedding dresses at the time which were indeed Lady Di meringues).
I even remember my first dress from Monsoon circa 1987/88 I remember it was a tiny boutique type shop Monsoon in those days (Cambridge) and fell in love with it and felt incredibly extravagant for buying it.
Funny how those things stick in our minds.
Oh yes we did have a rather extended honeymoon before the wedding 4 years later Grin and that did cost a lot of £ gallivanting round the world (DH was already a homeowner when we met, people could afford mortgages in their early 20’s then, but sold his tiny house to finance our round the world adventures).

dontcallmelen · 02/05/2019 09:53

Aww Cherries that’s very romantic, when you know you know.
Soy gallivanting round the world, what a wonderful thing to be able to do.

Ellapaella · 02/05/2019 09:58

Morning all... am currently sitting with DS1 in hospital waiting for him to go down for his knee surgery. Feeling calm at the moment but can't imagine how I'm going to feel when we go down to theatre as I'm allowed to stay with him while he's anaesthetised.

So I'll be on mumsnet a lot today to kill the time!
Trying to resist ordering the beautiful marina skirt that @SoyYo has...

Ellapaella · 02/05/2019 09:59

@miffy2 your holiday sounds absolutely brilliant, am so jealous!

SoyYo · 02/05/2019 10:40

Hello @Ella we will try keep your mind occupied, I’m sure DS op will be an amazing success but he’s your baby so wishing you strength today Flowers

SoyYo · 02/05/2019 10:43

Actually I’ve been sitting in my GP surgery for the last hour...walk in clinic so it’s to be expected. I’ve woken up with half my face swollen up like the elephant man Sad, no toothache so no idea. Suspect an infection so hopefully I’ll get some antibiotics to knock in on the head...

dontcallmelen · 02/05/2019 10:43

Aww Ella sending a big hug & a very speedy recovery for Ds 💐
Soy just having a look on Boden & saw a silk stripey shirt & thought of you.

dontcallmelen · 02/05/2019 10:44

Ooh hope it get sorted quickly Soy 💐

Ellapaella · 02/05/2019 10:59

@SoyYo oh no, elephant man is not good... hope you get it sorted xx

neveradullmoment99 · 02/05/2019 11:07

Oh @Ella and @soyo. I remember when my ds was in to have a tooth out [ it was fused to the bone] and how worried I was about him going under anaesthetic. He was only about 3 or 4 so I can appreciate how you may be feeling Flowers
And @soyo, I have had few swollen faces in the past. It went withing a day so no idea of what It was! My dd had a swollen face one morning out of the blue. Turned out it was cellulitus that had got in through the sinuses. She was only little [4] and they were very cautious so ended up with intravenous antibiotics overnight but I am sure yours isn't that. It caused an infection. Hope they get the bottom of it. Goodluck to both of you xx
