But on @len with her slim petite frame I agree they would look amazing and they do have that 50’s vintage vibe...

dontcallmelen · 01/05/2019 19:43

Laska surely not you enabling 😂😂 they are beautiful dresses & style definitely suit me, but I have tried them before & they are too big on the hips & too long on me😢
huff lovely pics of outfit, yy the marina skirt does seem a really versatile buy.

Laska2Meryls · 01/05/2019 19:49

I would love to have an event to go to that I could wear this.

I longed for a long green dress for my wedding, but I was stoney broke and a lot fatter! .. So i bought my ( gorgeous ) Monsoon dark blue silk dress from ebay for £50!.. And guess what ? DH only turned up in a ruddy bespoke Paul Smith suit! (it was dark blue also , we looked fab.. ) Here is him 'proposing', just before we went into the reg office. He was made to by our witnesses as he hadn't properly before!! His answer to this? 'You actually want me to kneel on the ground? but I am wearing a Paul Smith suit !'..

Lentils simmering now...quick one I got the Gudrun kimono via UPS.
It’s a bit long on me but totally love the print and the fabric quality is stunning (just a bit see through) so I’m keeping and may well splash out on the red one too if still in stock.
You see the bombshell dessses in the plain silk/velvet/sequins appeal to me but the flowery prints I find a bit repellent, yet I love prints and Gudrun has exceeded herself with this one. I think I can waft around with it on top of leggings/jeans and use as a beach coverup or even as a light summer dressing gown.
Totally fab!
Have a lovely eve

SoyYo · 01/05/2019 19:54

@laska you look beautiful in that blue dress and sooo happy! 😍
Also your DH looks swish and in stitches! Fab pic!

Laska2Meryls · 01/05/2019 19:58

13 years ago now, Soy we've been together 25 years this year.. met as the poorest possible mature students ever... both with a young DC each.. I didn't ask where he got the £££ for a Paul Smith suit!! (but if I had known Id have gone for Vivienne Westwood!)

He's just retired!! Yesterday was his last day at work..

Laska2Meryls · 01/05/2019 20:04

Huff, yes I ordered the khaki Wren.. I got the 16, because of norks.. It may be too big, but we shall see. When I tried a 14 denim Hush jacket last season it wouldn't do up! Sad .. I think I do prefer the khaki, the sold out midnight version seems a bit 'Che' or 'French revolutionary ' ?. (but i like it also )

dontcallmelen · 01/05/2019 20:11

Aww Laska you look so happy & gorgeous, Dh looking very fit in the suit.
Ooh goodness bug changes ahead 🍷🥂🍹
I got married in pale green shift dress with pale grey/sparkly really high heels & a pale grey pillbox hat.

Huffthepuff · 01/05/2019 20:12

Brilliant pic @Laska!
I have ordered the Wren too... looks gorgeous and soft. Fingers crossed!

@SoyYo I'm so pleased you like the kimono! I'd definitely order the red if they had my size in stock. Quite tempted by their hibiscus scarf 🌺

Laska2Meryls · 01/05/2019 20:15

Soy I love the stripy Marina , and also the one you have Huff (I didn't realise it was blue, may check that out) The print on the T shirt dress is fab print soy, but quite honestly I think the shape doesn't even do much for the model.. ..

Umm , I have ordered the blue Laredo, but i'm now not sure, you are all right about the basic style vs price.. it will probably arrive tomorrow and so I'll see then ..

I found a great yellow linen mix top in Sainsburys for £14 earlier, (cant find it online to show you ) Ill post a photo tomorrow..
Also the Clarks sandals I ordered were too narrow, so I swapped them out for these in black in the shop.. they honoured the 20% off also .! Smile

dontcallmelen · 01/05/2019 20:16

big ffs this autocorrect is out to get me today.

dontcallmelen · 01/05/2019 20:19

Ooh post a pic when you get a chance, Sainsbury’s usually do good linen mix tops, sandals look really comfy & not to clumpy.

Laska2Meryls · 01/05/2019 20:24

I really like them len ...A bit edgy I thought? . Those sandals are also quite cool in the Yellow (and also come in pink and silver.. I just needed black.. )

Laska2Meryls · 01/05/2019 20:28

That gold silk shawl in my wedding photo came from Oxfam! ,and I couldn't afford to get my hair done.. Ah well, so what we are still happy together ..( and somewhat better off now)

dontcallmelen · 01/05/2019 20:28

Ooh I like the yellow, they would be ideal running around after dgd definitely not frumpy.

dontcallmelen · 01/05/2019 20:30

Yy Laska it’s the marriage not the wedding that counts.
I did my own hair & makeup & had silk flowers attached to my clutch bag as we couldn’t afford flowers, I think my dress was about twenty quid.

Laska2Meryls · 01/05/2019 20:38

YY Len but I am often amazed reading on some of the wedding threads on MN , how much the getting the t wedding perfect counts
..We went back to ours and had a homemade buffet in the garden! ( DMil DH the kids and I were still decorating, cutting up quiche and sandwiches etc and putting out stuff just before we left for the ceremony.. and DH sorted out the ice buckets and Bubbly / Wine when we got back!

ilovecherries · 01/05/2019 20:39

We are married 38 years in June. We were children!

laska great picture, I love your whole outfit. Your necklace looks lovely too Smile

twosoups1972 · 01/05/2019 20:45

laska I agree. People don't really remember what table centres you have, they remember the atmosphere. We had a stressful run up to our wedding because our parents fell out at the engagement. In the end we made our own wedding our way, dh is older than me and had some money saved up. Our friends were fantastic and so supportive because they knew how s* our parents had treated us (don't get me started!).

dontcallmelen · 01/05/2019 20:45

I know, I sit reading with my mouth open thinking wtf.
Your reception sounds the same as ours, we went back to our flat & had a buffet that my aunt made & Dh & his brothers got the alcohol from the local social club, we ended up partying until about 3am.
My parents didn’t approve of us getting married so young so didn’t contribute to the wedding, which was a bit mad considering my Dm was seventeen & DF twenty when they got married😂 they came round in the end though & both adored Dh & he them.

twosoups1972 · 01/05/2019 20:46

cherries the 40 year mark is approaching! I still can't believe we are heading towards our silver anniversary. I don't feel I've grown up yet Grin

Laska2Meryls · 01/05/2019 20:48

T'was toatl Bling Two soups cheap as chips!! . I still have the whole outfit though and the dress is now more of maxi on me as I am so much thinner! Still love it though and have even last year worn it to a summer evening party .

dontcallmelen · 01/05/2019 20:49

Us too cherries we were babies, I was eighteen & Dh was twenty two we married for forty one years in March (St.Patricks day hence the pale green dress)

Laska2Meryls · 01/05/2019 20:49

38 years cherries..!! Would love to see your wedding dress!
