Link to book group thread, which has the list of books.

And in case you get bored of the royals or they're having a quiet week, here's the Celebrity S&G thread!

Remember, let's critique the clothes without getting too personal about the wearers.

The travesty of that list is that Putin comes ahead of Obama in the rankings, although I know a few gay men who fancy him!

Gay friends fancy Putin? Jesus. He wants to kill them all.

beanaseireann · 09/02/2019 09:38

I voted for Letizia.
I don't like the grey on Teresa May. It really washes her out, though she is probably very tired anyway.
I wouldn't swap with her for all the money in the world.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 09/02/2019 09:41

Putin?!
Portuguese PM; also very easy on the eye and more my vintage.
Good find @queen

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/02/2019 09:42

I'm rather disappointed I never knew of Portuguese PM when he was in power. He has a slight look of Hugh Jackman.

Theresa May used to be known for her fashion sense when once a lowly mp.
The newspapers posted pics of her wearing leopard print shoes with her formal wear.

beanaseireann · 09/02/2019 09:49

Curly I think she's lost her way a bit fashion wise but she has other things on her mind at the moment.
I'm so glad you didn't leave the thread.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 09/02/2019 10:37

Thanks @beanseirann
I really enjoy these threads; the fashion and a bit of gossip.
But sometimes I have to step away when it gets a bit heated...!
Funny how we can feel quite strongly about people we’ve never met.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 09/02/2019 10:50

Sophie & Anne doing their thing this week.
Smart coats & diy updos.

MM's skirt shirt combo was a miss for me.. But I couldn't see her in the Isabella Oliver dress either - it just wouldn't be her in my humble opinion. Can't believe the Kermit dress is winning on that Hello poll, although in the photo they have used her flowers are strategically placed over the evil eyes... I voted for Madeleine

certainlymerry · 09/02/2019 13:27

Just a thought... why doesn’t Tim Lawrence accompany Anne on all her functions? Why is. Man given a pass but the wives are expected to be present most of the time? It’s very sexist.

bettythebutterfly · 09/02/2019 13:42

Long, long time lurker here. I so enjoy these threads but am many time zones away so usually catch up with a glass of wine at night rather than in real time. I've just read the most lovely book that I think many of you will like. It's called The Gown (by Jennifer Robson), and it's about the women who embroidered Princess Elizabeth's wedding dress in 1947. There's also lots of details about Norman Hartnell and his workshop in Mayfair. I loved it, and thought of this thread often.

frugalkitty · 09/02/2019 13:52

Ooh Betty that books sounds fab......I'm off to investigate!

AnnaMagnani · 09/02/2019 13:56

I thought Tim didn't accompany Anne because a) he kept up his job in the Navy and b) they aren't actually together any more and she spends more time with Andrew Parker-Bowles.

beanaseireann · 09/02/2019 14:12

If Anne and Tim are not together anymore why was he in photos with Anne recently at Sandringham I think.
So AnnaMagnani you are saying that Charles is with Camilla and Anne is now with her ex husband. HmmShock

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 09/02/2019 14:15

Thanks for that link @bettythebutterfly
I’ve added it to the Royal S&G book club thread.
It’s currently 99p so I’ve already downloaded it to my kindle!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 09/02/2019 14:17

Tim went with Anne to Chile on an official trip.
I have heard the Anne APB stories.
They’re all pensioners now. I don’t know why they’re bothering to keep up appearances.

AnnaMagnani · 09/02/2019 14:22

Well Anne isn't going to turn up to her mum's with APB is she?

Apparently Tim wasn't even staying at her place in London when he was in the Navy and had his own flat.

Anne was still with APB right when he was marrying Camilla Shock

It all got discussed on a previous thread when I was Shock but tis all v easily googleable.

ElspethFlashman · 09/02/2019 14:38

Apparently when things were really bad with Tim and Anne (I think about 2007 onwards for a few years) the idea was that the RF couldn't afford another divorce. And certainly not someone on their 2nd divorce before 50, like Anne. Doesn't look good, does it?

But now I think they're through the shit years and possibly are friends and couldn't be arsed divorcing. He has a flat and works a lot, and she has her work and her grandkids, and they probably don't see much of each other but maybe it's just convenient to stay married, who knows.

ElspethFlashman · 09/02/2019 14:39

I have to say though I've never heard a bad word about him, personality wise.

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/02/2019 14:45

I'm not sure he's ever revealed much of any sort of personality to the public, really!

I guess if what they have works, then good for them. I guess it's like Charles and Camilla and how she spends most weekends at her own house in the country.

But am I alone in not understanding the appeal of APB, even as a young man?

OP posts:
VanillaSugarr · 09/02/2019 15:50

APB and Camilla wedding day

VanillaSugarr · 09/02/2019 15:51

Gosh, if you google APB you get an awful lot of recent photos of him with Princess Anne.....

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/02/2019 15:55

Still doesn't do anything for me @VanillaSugarr! But obviously there's more to him than meets the eye if he was Jilly Cooper'a inspiration for Rupert Campbell Black!

OP posts:
DontCallMeCharlotte · 09/02/2019 16:12

Curly I agree with you about Meghan and the Parisian maternity look. She could really rock that.

I genuinely don't understand how she's getting it so consistently wrong when most expectant women look a million times better. It just looks like she's buying bigger sizes in ordinary clothes and a size 12 may be fine for the bump but not for the rest of her.

I think I'm just going to have to get over myself and give her a pass or post her a Seraphine catalogue and revisit once she's had the baby.

I'm sure she'll sleep better for knowing that!
