Previous thread.

And let's stick to critiquing the outfits rather than the wearer!

Sorry, gaunt

katekat383 · 27/12/2018 10:42

Yes, I agree Kate is looking gaunt. Shame.

AFifthOfKoolAid · 27/12/2018 10:47

But good skin and dressing for your shape are meaningless, just hobbies.

I'm If you want to learn about skincare and stuff then fine, but it's not important in the grand scheme of things. I am a total makeup addict but I am glad my school hours or were not taken up with eyelash curling lessons, or how to flatter my bust, instead of something that would expand my mind. Fashion and skincare have about as much place in schools as cricket league tables or the pop charts. If how to dress was part of schooling in days of yore, I'm glad those days are gone because I'm sure girls would have had the shit end of that stick (same with baby-rearing).

Case in point, this discussion about Zara's nails in her engagement photos. I appreciate a nicely manicured hand but she came out with uneven, jagged nails and that's totally fine. It suits her lifestyle and shows her personality and I think it's brilliant that she threw that particular grooming rule out the window.

certainlymerry · 27/12/2018 10:50

Yes, gaunt is it. She looks much older than she is, and it's a real shame. She looks so much better with a bit more weight on her. Her skin is also really quite lined and her neck is getting ropey. She's a beautiful woman who is just far too thin in my opinion.

Clionba · 27/12/2018 10:50

KoolAid I absolutely agree!
That's what's so interesting about style and fashion. People can look fantastic at any age and any shape. We need to let go of the tyranny.

certainlymerry · 27/12/2018 10:51

i mean to teach those skills to both sexes really.

Quantumblue · 27/12/2018 11:03

Belatedly joining in to say I too hated the tweed Erdem. I think Kate has glowed since Louis was born and I suspect it is relief that their family is complete and no more HG.
I think Meghan should be buying fewer and more valuable and timeless pieces of jewellery, rather than lots of expensive yet trinketty stuff.
Max in the full Stuart was the outfit of the year.

Clionba · 27/12/2018 11:08

certainlymerry but these skills can be picked up from books, parents, friends, magazines and the internet. Far better to focus on literacy, maths, science and languages. I'm just imagining what "style" lessons I would have been given at school in the 1970s!! Brown goes with everything, you can never have too much crimplene, and always wear American Tan tights!! Grin

katekat383 · 27/12/2018 11:14

Loved her in the tweed dress.

evilharpy · 27/12/2018 11:21

I was joking about flattering necklines being taught at shool, for the avoidance of doubt.

I do however think that basic sewing should make a return to home economics or whatever it’s called these days. For both sexes. Being able to make minor repairs and alterations is an incredibly useful skill. My husband couldn’t even sew a button back on if it fell off.

AhoyDelBoy · 27/12/2018 11:33

We’re 230+ posts in already and I’ve only read the first page but wanted to share my favourite outfits of the year! All just screenshots from my favourite Instagram account Smile

I’ve just looked back over Kate’s outfits for the year and these were the ones I liked the most. Loved the tartan skirt combo and the lilac is to die for!

AhoyDelBoy · 27/12/2018 11:38

And a close fourth

Kate’s St Patrick Day outfits are normally among my favourites of hers! I think she suits the forest green.

Clionba · 27/12/2018 11:39

It's nice to see Kate with a handbag instead of a little clutch, isn't it? Meghan has some interesting bags.

AhoyDelBoy · 27/12/2018 11:52

Agree with the Gail @AhoyDelBoy. There were some dodgy ones in the Pacific too. Like the pink Pom Pom monstrosity.

Paradyning · 27/12/2018 12:21

For Faaacckkksake. Faking autocorrect. *fail. Not fuckin Gail.

Clionba · 27/12/2018 12:24

Agree, Ahoy and paradyning
She looked great in those sharp, clear outfits, my favourite being the bright blue Givenchy. That floral blue monstrosity was dreadful, with the awful white hat plonked on top. The pink pom pom one too, although she was pregnant, so maybe cut her slack on that one!

BigGreenOlives · 27/12/2018 12:26

We had self defence one term after school (1980s) and my daughters have had it too (2010s). We did all go to single sex schools. I also had a term of ‘Understanding Industry’ in year 9. It focussed on how businesses work, PAYE, employers’ responsibilities, employee rights, how unions work etc. V useful stuff and instead of PSHE.

Triglesoffy · 27/12/2018 12:29

I take your point about Meghan wearing more statement jewellery as her entire jewellery collection has bypassed me. Does she wear anything? I can’t remember.

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 27/12/2018 12:33

Ahoy I'd forgotten about the colour block skirt. That was beautiful.

Biggest fail for me was the Royal Variety Performance dress. Wtf was that?!

For fairness, Kate's biggest fail was the Erdem - for me, anyway. Wasn't crazy about the dress for the state dinner either, although it has grown on me.

beanaseireann · 27/12/2018 12:40

Paradyning
M&H visited Ireland this year- their first Royal tour together.
DD2 caught a glimpse at one venue.
