What do we think about accent nail manicures?

Are they nice? I've seen some that I think look pretty cool and others that just look weird. Need to redo my gels this week and contemplating taking the plunge! I know I'm massively behind the curve btw.

Also sort of shameless thread to show off any accent nail manicures you may be sporting please! Bonus points if they're Christmassy.

Current colour, hastily applied.

@Neverunderfed that's exactly what I do and I love it! I use the bluesky polishes, what do you use?

@ineedsomeinspiration Shamelessly copied your look and decided to go for it! No regrets! Tacky or not I kinda love them!

They look fab! I don't think accent nails look tacky, any nail polish can look tacky it's just they way they are done which makes them. A well done accent will look as lovely as a well done set of one colour nails. Nail art can be over the top, but well done nail art will look lovely. It's all about the design and finish.

Hezz · 19/12/2018 19:58

I think accent nails ruin a good manicure.

carrietwick · 19/12/2018 20:03

I like a bit of glitter for the Xmas season and had these nails for a party last week.

I can't carry off red so I've gone for white and grey ombré with a snow flake on ring finger

Yes Roobub, and those lavender something ones that are normally buy three get three free (try saying that fast 😂) on Amazon. 😁

SapphireSeptember · 19/12/2018 21:50

The last time I painted my nails it was plain black (which is incredibly dull for me, but anything else wouldn't have worked with the look I was going for.) I have used five different colours before and painted different nails on each hand, so basically every nail is an accent nail. Grin I also like alternating two different colours. I'm not allowed to wear nail polish at work so try and wear as many different colours as I can when I have a week off!

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 19/12/2018 22:10

Roo Tbf it kinda works for the festive season, and I think you were right to go for the green accent rather than gold. It’s cute!

BusterGonad · 19/12/2018 23:31

I really want to get my nails done glitter red and green now!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 19/12/2018 23:37

@Racheyg: now those are the kind of accent nails which make me change my mind about disliking accent nails! They’re lovely and subtle although I would find the length too long on myself.

zenasfuck · 20/12/2018 02:49

I like an accent nail, don't care if some think it's tacky
I also sometimes have every other finger glitter
These are my Chris nails

I do nails for a living and only on Mumsnet do people have such strong opinions on accent nails 😂, yes they've been around for a long time but literally everyone has them at some point. Even my most sensible only ever have nude nails types have an accent if a snowflake at xmas.
Im a big fan of nailart and I like each nail different with a cohesive look. Anyone who looks at your hands just thinks "oh look at her nails" for about a second before moving on anyway so who cares, just do what makes you happy!

MeetOnTheSIedge · 20/12/2018 07:13

I have to disagree, I've never had an accent nail and never will.

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 20/12/2018 07:44

Yes I have to disagree as well. I don’t do accent nails.

It’s definitely not just a Mumsnet thing. Hmm

I hold all of my opinions just as much IRL as I do on Mumsnet. It just happens that I’d never be so rude as to express out loud my opinions on others’ style choices IRL.

It also stands to reason that your sample will be heavily biased toward people who are keen on accent nails, so you really couldn’t generalise from it to any reliable extent.

Neverunderfed · 20/12/2018 07:57

Well you guys are on Mumsnet so........🤔😂

Anyway, I'd agree with the part about nobody really caring what others have on their nails.

Shitonthebloodything · 20/12/2018 08:01

Grin Never, that's the point I was trying to make. It's like makeup, noone else really cares what you do so why not go for whatever makes you happy.
Also, love your username.

SinglePringle · 20/12/2018 08:05

Never had an accent nail and never will. Think they look awful. Hate glitter and acrylics and any kind of nail art.

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 20/12/2018 08:15

It’s not a MN thing, it’s a demographic thing. Sorry but it’s just such a silly thing to say. Just because you don’t encounter a certain opinion in your immediate circle doesn’t mean it’s an unheard of opinion only encountered on some mythical MN landscape. It just means your circle doesn’t tend toward that opinion. Not an overly complex concept, surely.

In any case, I absolutely agree - do what makes you happy and enjoy it. Especially during the festive season! Xmas Smile

Shitonthebloodything · 20/12/2018 08:21

And there was me thinking that S&B was going to be light and fluffy. Grin

I honestly don't think that people would be so rude about this stuff in real life. It's just nails after all. Unless you're going for a job interview or something that depends on people being overly critical of you, it really doesn't matter.
