What do we think about accent nail manicures?

Are they nice? I've seen some that I think look pretty cool and others that just look weird. Need to redo my gels this week and contemplating taking the plunge! I know I'm massively behind the curve btw.

Also sort of shameless thread to show off any accent nail manicures you may be sporting please! Bonus points if they're Christmassy.

Can we accent nail the index finger for dramatic pointing?

Accent nails were cool in 2010. Time to move on imho

I like an accent finger and have had them done regularly.
I didn’t realise it was considered tacky until I came onto style & beauty however I like them so I have them. If you want them I say go for it!

I’d generally say tacky, but if you can go Christmassy enough then I think it’s not eg the one green just looks cute.

I’m not keen on it, especially when they’re all different colours. Seems odd to me.

Love glitter polish though, so I’m reasonably tacky. If I didn’t have nails that break easily and I could be bothered with a manicure I’d have them really long too.

Beyond naff, to my eyes.

I really don't like an accent nail. I have gradient glitter on a dark colour at the moment and it looks ace. It's Christmas - more is more!

Nail appointment on Wednesday in serious need

I’m not a huge fan of massive fake-looking gel nails anyway. It just screams “look at ME! I’ve had my nails done! And I don’t do manual work!” but I REALLY don’t like an accent nail. In the words of my dear mother, “it looks common.”

@CurlyhairedAssassin I have short, natural nails. Not sure exactly what you mean about "massive" gel nails anyway... Gel is just a polish

Also, I work with my hands but like having a manicure when I'm off work, so you're probably reading way too much into what people have on the end of their fingers.

Who cares what anyone else thinks? It's just nail polish and if you fancy it, then go for it! If you can't have a bit of red and gold glitter on your finger ends at Christmas, then it's a poor do!
Worst case is you won't love it and you take it off in a few days. People are hardly going to follow you down the street with a bell shouting 'SHAME' over and over, are they?

These were mine a couple of years ago. Loved the accent nail, i think art on every nail is OTT personally.

I think I did this in 2014/2015. Not been awful but it's totally been and gone.

I think it looks tacky

Dark red with gold glitter ring fingers is still definitely around for Christmas - I quite like it. However I agree that it is at least five years old now and therefore looks quite dated.

Completely out of my comfort zone with a snowflake!

Tacky and horrid.

A glitter gradient is easy - use a make up sponge and dab the glitter on. The hardest part is making the gradient the same on each nail, but if you're not a perfectionist it's fine.

Tacky as hell, but so is lots of stuff. I'd have to spend most of the day in a darkened room if I took umbrage at everything I didn't like.

I think perhaps curlyhaired is thinking of the old school gel nails which were like acrylics, they could look pretty fake.

Modern gel varnish is just normal varnish on own nails cured under a lamp to last longer. I can't stand chipped nail varnish and can never commit/be organised enough to have regular appointments so bout an LED lamp from Amazon.
