Lovers of Parisian style and fashion with a conscious mindset to our wardrobes. Occasionally we pretend this is a proper Salon of the non-beauty kind.

Waiting patiently for Bo’s feedback on trousers. I am really interested in the material of the non denim ones. And the flared denims of my screen shot please!

Jon can you please get a photo and let me know your view on the high waisted ones? When you get them?

ToElleWithIt · 31/01/2019 11:26

I love the look of the high-waisted pleated trousers. I won’t order them as they’ll be hideously short on me #tallgirlproblems. I did take a chance on this green dress because I love the colour. I’m having a bit of a green moment.

I too am shocked at the amount that influencers receive. I understood promos, gifted items and affiliate links, but I wasn’t aware that some of them were getting full-on clothing allowance #naive There are very few that I actually follow and like. One worth mentioning who I think has a bit of integrity and buys her own things / promotes charity shops, eBay, independent boutiques, dress agencies etc is Catwalkschoolgates. While I don’t have much crossover with her asthetic, I do like the ethos.

Re stories I agree that the quality and look has really leaned into the ‘gram. It’s much harder to find nice pieces there now. That said, I did buy this green skirt there and it’s nice quality, but it was a needle in a highly flammable haystack.

I really like the boots botemp. I get so much wear out of my chunky boots, but they are probably not a good choice for snow. Weirdly I’m in Stockholm too in a few weeks. Must be the place to visit! It’s a quick trip so I won’t be looking for shopping recommendations as I don’t think that time will allow.

I did try the double coat look – next up in the advent calendar, but forgot to take a picture, so I’ll have to recreate it.

Lovely colour banivani Emerald is clearly the shade of the year (may have been 2 years ago…whatevs…)

Jumper is great botemp

The green dress has sold out, Elle so well done for snapping it up, I hope you like it too. Clearly shows that it's a popular colour - it's the first to sell out always! You're rocking a monochrome look in them photos, aren't you? Mine would've been more emerald (i.e. mad), am a little annoyed it didn't work out. Was watching stand up before christmas on Netflix and loved the look Jen Kirkman wears in one of her specials
cdn.pastemagazine.com/www/articles/jen%20kirkman%20jk%20living%20review%20main.JPG

I've actually considered emailing and asking where the trousers come from.

banivani · 31/01/2019 11:51

Why is everyone in Stockholm btw? I live 40 minutes away by train and I'm not there half as often. ;)

quirkychick · 31/01/2019 12:16

Ah, thanks, bo, I misunderstood (my brain is not fully functioning atm, still at home with ill child who now has a chest infection Sad). Do you mean what the Americans call duck boots, with the bottom part of the boot rubberised?

Loving the green, Elle.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 31/01/2019 13:22

Elle I love the green skirt. (I'm also having a green moment). I saw it last week but was with the toddler so couldn't try it on. Will go back tomorrow, it looks great.

Redandblue11 · 31/01/2019 13:57

Elle the green look is tres chic.

After many returns, I have a pair of Levi’s 712, slim fit , mid rise.
What do we think as standard denim?
They feel comfortable and they aim is to fill a gap in my wardrobe of having a plain denim in a decent quality.

I tried a lovely buttoned up light blue one , highly waited from levis too but my size had sold out unfortunately. So Hopkins off for spring wide legged ones.

I do prefer that fit on you red, much better than the others. Good to know that the old standbys can still turn up trumps.

Snowing hard here now, but unlikely to settle (she hopes) as it's been wet. But on the hills and moors.... tricky, especially as we have to be away by 7.15 tomorrow morning for an appointment. Not looking forward to it.

Redandblue11 · 01/02/2019 12:26

Hopefully you got to your appointment ok Xing , here snow has set too.
I walked past a nice shop that just seen is closing and popped in and tried this Michael Kors jumpsuitsuit at a very very low price... as is the last day there are no returns or refunds. I left it to think about it.
What do you think?

We got there thanks, Red. It was a bit hairy getting up the hill where the gritting lorry doesn't go. Much much worse on the moor where people were stranded overnight.

The jumpsuit looks good and useful; the rear view is a particularly neat fit.

Today's outfit is practical (but imperfectly co-ordinated). The hiking boots (a la mode), marron down jacket, arctic fox huff, olive heavyweight jeans, charcoal cashmere sweater and thermals under everything else. Ski gauntlets for filling the log baskets...

botemp · 01/02/2019 14:19

Quickly checking in, I've been to Uniqlo this morning the high waisted pleated trousers are great, I'd recommend getting another colour though, bit dull in black and the colours work better with the material. Sizing is a bit individual I suspect, I tried on a 24, 25, and 26 and there was very little difference between them. I wasn't planning on getting them, now warring whether to go with the khaki/brown or the browny pink ones. Will upload (slightly peculiar) pics, when I have wi-fi.

Also snapped up a very dramatic Jacquemus winter coat at nearly 90% off. It's bordering on eccentric though, I'm slightly scared and thrilled by it in equal measure Confused

Red, MK is on my shitlist for various reasons, doesn't necessarily need to be yours (mostly for the poor working conditions of the factories he uses) but also due to material choice, is it synthetic? The fit does look good on you.

banivani · 01/02/2019 14:29

I agree red, the fit looks good!

bo looking forward to the coat :)

ToElleWithIt · 01/02/2019 14:44

I like the neckline and the fit. Honestly I don't mind synthetic in a jumpsuit as I feel the really crucial thing is that whatever fabric it is doesn't turn into a crumpled mess around the crotch and stomach so just as long as it's weighty and not crushable.

XingMing · 01/02/2019 19:59

So, did you go back Red?

botemp · 01/02/2019 21:23

#Uniqlo

Ok so probably should caveat that with the exception of the high waisted pleated trousers I personally wouldn't have picked dip the other three items to try as they're not exactly an asset to my figure so may explain my lack of enthusiasm for some of the other items.

I feel I'm underselling the trousers as I appear to be too preoccupied with holding my jumper up and thrusting my pelvis forward Confusedso perspective is a bit odd. I forgot to mention previously that the smaller size (24) made my waist comically small, so something to keep in mind if like me you go in and out with a drastic difference. There's little between the two colours, I really liked the pinker (pic 2 and 3) of the two in the shop but less so in the fitting room. They are on the shorter side as I wouldn't need to take them in when worn with heels which is rare, it's a bit too much mass for me personally to wear with flats, potentially workable if I cropped them. The pinkish are size 26, the brownish in 25. The 25 gave a more tailored fit but it was a very slight difference.

The light wash jeans are not usually a style I go for with so much stomach frontage as it makes me quite round and flattens my bum into something very unflattering. The back wasn't so bad on this but this was a size larger than I'd normally take (only one available). I thought the weird pulling at the crotch was just down to my shape but I noticed the mannequin had a similar effect, I'm not totally convinced who this would flatter. Material felt nice though, not as stubbornly stiff as 100% denim usually is.

Dresses with rounded shoulders tend to make me quite dowdy, so keep that in mind, as they throw me off balance and make me quite top heavy in the shoulders with magically slimmer hips, especially at ¾ or side angle it becomes more apparent. Because I'm already quite balanced it's not very flattering usually. I'm sure it's perfectly nice if you can take rounder shoulders but even the mannequin looked a touch boring in it. Main issue I had with it was that it was quite thin and transparent, it shows everything, including all lumps and bumps. The brighter green colourway was very garish IMO.

The shirt dress (could only find black in my size) had similar issues with the shoulders for me, also would suit someone taller as the waist was pretty much sitting in the hip area for me which was far from flattering.

The jumper I came in to look for was nowhere to be found Hmm I didn't try it on but the trench coat did look very nice, suitably water repellent with a large hood and very crisp fabric. A touch on the pricey side for Uniqlo though. The jersey trousers are a definite miss, they looked like like joggers to me. Wasn't really anything else that stood out except the patterned stuff, not my thing but it did liven up the collection.

#Jacquemus coat

I'm going to have to retract my previous enthusiasm about this because I made the stupid mistake of trying this on over my largest and bulkiest jumper only. In the hotel room I've come to the realisation that I'm drowning in it without my jumper and the fact that it's a few sizes up really is an issue. Thankfully I can return, but I'll do so reluctantly as it was an absolute bargain (€1100 down to €160) and it really is something else

Didn't buy anything else today, but did try on loads. Will attempt to catch up with those at breakfast tomorrow, will be heading to Sezane tomorrow, if there's anything there of interest for me to look out for, for anyone, let me know.

Which jersey trousers, do you mean those rounded ones? I was keen to hear your opinion if you tried them on. I see what you mean about the balancing of the dress. I often have this problem with dresses since I’m a bit too wide up top for balance so it takes little to throw it off for me. The garish green looks the same colour as my new blouse missus 😬

The trousers you tried on there look to me like they should be worn by the northern soul dancers in the Love Me Again music video (John Newman, song was in the alien film with Cruise and Blunt). Not criticising merely observing. The shape is quite striking, I’m warming to them but find the colours a bit dull.

The whiskering on the jeans is very bad now. I’d hate to pay for that. 😕

ThisNameIsDifferentFromTheLast · 01/02/2019 22:06

The high waisted trousers do look lovely, however I find the bottoms from Uniqlo to be too varied for online ordering, and I don't live near a store.

I did however get tempted by the oversized white shirt, so have a medium on order.

I must be having a shirt moment, as I've also brought a lovely blue shirt from Cos. It's much nicer on in real life compared to the photo.

Toying with the idea of getting some Commando leather effect leggings to test run before committing to a proper pair.

Not very Parisian though I'm sure.

Ps, I can't remember who asked, but yes I kept the barrel legged jeans. Just need the weather to warm up a bit to give them a proper outing.

i'd love to see any of the Sezane knitwear items, bo, if you are taking orders. :)

I was hoping I'd hate the wide-legged trousers but they look really good...

Redandblue11 · 01/02/2019 23:32

Xing i went back and got the jumpsuit. It is/will be quite useful I reckon.
The material is synthetic, but as Elle said in this case I do not mind as is heavy as in “good” weight to it and not doing anything weird in the crotch area for instance, feels nice to the touch (and I am v fuzzy in that sense)
Bo I did not know about his ethics or lack of ... will keep in mind for future as I do tend to get bothered about that.

Redandblue11 · 01/02/2019 23:33

Tomorrow when I am less tired will look properly at Bo feedback. Thank you. You star 🌟
