Morning all! Come and join the gorgeously-scented chat!

Today I smell of lavender, woodsmoke and cinnamon biscuits, in Another Kiss By The Fireside.

Welcome Cat - have you tried L'Occitane's Ambre? This was their original amber, they discontinued in favour of A&S, but appear to have swapped back again. They are not a million miles apart.

If you do like the amber note, try Tom Ford's Absolute Amber. Or the PP version inspired TF's AA. Si Le Parfum is also worth a sniff if warm amber is up your street. And if you are trying some 4160Ts include Eau My Soul and Shazam! Also L'Artisan Parfumer's Absolute Amber is turning up in TK Maxx at the moment.

On the sandalwood/cedar side, to add to Mrsr8's suggestions, you might like Miller Harris's Peau Santal (they may have samples left on the Feel Unique pick n mix?), or Santal 33, Le Labo, but again check out PP version?

MrsLucas · 20/11/2018 20:21

Sorry for multiple typos - getting over-excited with amber/sandalwood chat after a hectic day. The L'Artisan is L'Eau D'Ambre. There is also an extreme variant.

Thanks Mrs Lucas - not a perfumista but have googled and they both sound gorgeous! Smile

SheHasNotions · 20/11/2018 21:24

I wore Chloe Roses today which in retrospect was a ridiculous choice for a freezing, rainy November day.

I’m definitely going for something warming tomorrow.

Promise I’ll post out your advent treats by end of the week, Judy!

MissBattleaxe · 20/11/2018 22:16

@catsnoozing if you like Sandalwood then I really recommend Le Jardin Retrouve Sandalwood Sacre. It's absolutely beautiful and I can't stop sniffing myself whenever I wear it. It started with a sample and now I have a big one! Also- you might like 4160 Tuesdays Eau My Soul which is warm ambery sandalwood.

Calmanddance · 20/11/2018 22:23

Or, Jennifer and MrsLucas, something different but interesting might work with DMs. How about Zoologist Elephant (green spicy sandalwood) or L’Artisan Mure et Musc (hauntingly beautiful non-sweet blackberry and musk)?

My SOTD was Theo Fennell Scent. This has a vintage vibe (but isn’t) and after a skanky start develops into a deep spicy floral (mostly rose). I’ve really had to work hard on getting to know this one, but now I love it 🥰

MrsLucas · 20/11/2018 22:41

Calm - that's spooky, I was wondering about TF Scent with the DMs, with a strong fuschia lip! What formulation do you have? I like the EdP more than the EdT (which has a mahoosive cumin note), but haven't tried the parfum.

Calmanddance · 20/11/2018 22:54

MrsLucas, I have the EDT. The cumin would probably explain why I’ve found it difficult. I now definitely have to try the EDP! (Haven’t seen the parfum.)

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 21/11/2018 00:00

Thank you floof! I love ultra violet, it’s been my go to for 15 years! But really looking forward to trying the Guerlain!

FloofyCatHasVeryFoldableEars · 21/11/2018 08:09

Jennifer that really made me laugh! Definitely thick tights and dresses with DMs, you cannot go wrong! Surely the perfume has to be Lush Karma? Wink Are they the black Pascals? I am desperate for the ones with the the Decline of the Carthaginian Empire print, but they are too heavy for my feet these days Also my teen DDs have the same size feet as me so I'd never get a chance to wear them!

Cat I like your username Wink I have a big bottle of the PP version of By The Fireplace and am trying to give it out in decants as it's lovely but doesn't suit me. You're welcome to PM me your address and I'll send you some :)

I can send it when I finally get yours to the post office wolves I promise it will get there by December!

MrsLucas · 21/11/2018 08:44

Calm - as Pest spotted, there are some 10 or 15ml bottles of parfum turning up on eBay very cheaply.

UnnecessaryFennel · 21/11/2018 10:25

Surely MMM Music Festival with DMs? Grin Although Scent would also be fab - I will definitely give both a try this weekend!

SOTD is MG Fire. Fabulous spicy incense rose. Adore.

SOTD JHAG Mad Madame. I bought new DMs this year but haven't even considered which perfume goes with them. I do always wear red lipstick though! Mine are these: www.drmartens.com/uk/en_gb/p/womens-boots-new-oily-illusion-cynthia

teta · 21/11/2018 15:51

Oh dear.
My perfume austerity drive has come to a end. I’ve just succumbed to the J Lewis sale and bought Liz Earle no 15 and Private collection perfume as they had 17% off. I hope I like the private collection ( love the vintage eau). But I’m now a bit worried having read a review that it’s like Clinique Aromatics Elixir ( which smells dire on me).
Soto is the sheer green and amber incense of vintage Eau de Iparie.

Thank you everyone for the responses. I'm a bit new to posting, so having to wizz up and down to check who said what.

MrsLucas, I think I did once have a sniff at L'Occitane's Ambre, I must check it again.
Mrsr8 more 4160 to try!
MissBattleaxe I'm going to have hours of fun here, looking everything up and then planning an expedition to town.
FloofyCatHasVeryFoldableEars it's the "oh no a new user name / password, look out the window for inspiration". That's a kind offer. I'll PM you, once I've worked out how!

Finally caught up with my ebay parcel Smile. A teeny tiny flacon of Miss Dior parfum - looks like 60s or 70s. This is a fabulous revelation; hyper-vivid smells from a tiny dab. Starts off with a biting green, made harsher with aldehydes, but soon gets to be earthy and mossier, then a while in, a clear, warm labdanum/amber accord appears. (Don't think this is present in the EdT which stays much mossier?).

MrsLucas · 21/11/2018 21:19

Box is marked 05/07/68. Think I might just be the first to open it, as it is fresh as a daisy. Perfume is a wonderful thing.

Calmanddance · 21/11/2018 22:13

MrsLucas, your Miss Dior sounds wonderful!

I went to the Burne-Jones Exhibition today at Tate Britain. Beautiful paintings, drawings and tapestries. Of course, I wore Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady in homage (strong, spicy rose with patchouli). I only have a small decant of this as it is so expensive, but I thoroughly enjoy each, very occasional, wear.
