Only wearing dresses?

Dillydallyontheway · 08/09/2018 23:59

Curious whether anyone here only wears dresses? I love the feel of dresses and live in them for most of the summer and thinking of continuing this into the colder months. I have some lovely casual dresses I can wear with boots and tights. Obviously this is excluding things like exercising/ gardening/ decorating

I mostly wear dresses, especially for work. Only one piece of clothing to choose and no stress about coordinating tops and bottoms!

AbeautifulBeast · 09/09/2018 10:26

I am a dress convert, I never used to wear them at all. Like other posters have said, they are a 'complete' outfit and therefore so much easier to wear than a top/trousers combo!

AnnaMagnani · 09/09/2018 10:27

I wear only dresses for work. I find once bought they require no thought - one item of clothing only and ta da! an outfit.

The only dilemma is deciding when it is the right day to start wearing black opaque tight instead of bare legs.

BillywigSting · 09/09/2018 10:27

I mostly wear dresses because I find them far more comfortable than jeans/trousers.

I have a very small waist, a massive bum and very short legs so getting pants to fit is basically impossible. I always have to wear a belt with them they just make me feel like I can't breathe.

Even in the depths of winter dresses are more comfortable. Some fleece lined tights/leggings, a pair of warm socks and a good pair of boots are very cosy.

Occasionally I'll wear a pair of jeans but I don't tend to make it much past the bear minimum time required to wear them before I'm in pyjamas again.

BillywigSting · 09/09/2018 10:30

@gastropod snag tights are the answer!

Or buy a bigger size. If you're wearing boots it doesn't matter if they're a bit too long as the boots hide the wrinkly ankles

ChairinSage · 09/09/2018 10:33

I wear jeans every day for work so my casual wardrobe is all dresses - I want to feel totally different when I'm not working.

BoogleMcGroogle · 09/09/2018 10:34

I live dresses, but struggle to find ones suitable for autumn and winter. So many have short sleeves, and while dresses are a lovely look, what's the point of you have to hide it with a cardi?

Where can people recommend for lovely winter dresses?

AngloSaxonEarthenware · 09/09/2018 10:34

I pretty much always wear dresses, the rest of the time I wear skirts. I have one pair of skinny jeans that I put on occasionally and then take off again 10 minutes later because they're so uncomfortable and they make my hips look enormous and weird!
Dresses are comfortable, warmer than trousers (you can wear thermal tights underneath and a slip), they're a complete outfit in one go, If they're not fitted they can cope easily with weight fluctuations.
I wear them with tights and boots and cardigans in winter and sandals in summer - the same dresses mostly.
Having said all that, I bought a pair of high waist wide leg trousers yesterday!

hungryhippie · 09/09/2018 10:34

@gastropod Wearing your knickers over your tights stops them rolling down.
Dresses with lining dont stick to your tights, or you can get an underskirt from M&S.

AngloSaxonEarthenware · 09/09/2018 10:38

I wear long sleeve t-shirts under sleeveless dresses in a sort of pinafore style - Using Toast for inspiration and occasional sale purchases. It doesn't look as rubbish as it sounds!

Aspenfrost · 09/09/2018 11:59

Do some people wear legggings under those dresses, though? I have to say I really dislike that look.

ilovepixie · 09/09/2018 12:06

I'd love to wear dresses but I have awful fat legs so have to hide them

Dillydallyontheway · 09/09/2018 12:23

Aspen - I don't like the leggings look either so wear thick tights for winter instead. Surprisingly warm with knee high boots and sometimes I will also wear socks too.

Pixie - I have fat thighs but find dresses flattering as they skim over the problem areas rather than cling to them the way trousers do. Since wearing more dresses I look slimmer.

I don't have ankles so my legs look deformed and my calves are big so find boots a problem.

VanGoghsDog · 09/09/2018 12:40

I have never worn nor even owned a pair of 'leggings', so no.

I'm bemused by the suggestion above of wearing leggings under tights. I'd be so hot if I wore that.

I never go bare legged for work either, even in the hottest weather - nude tights in summer, black opaques in winter, occasionally coloured opaques - aubergine or dark green. But I have a wary eye on looking like an overgrown 2 year old, not a look I aspire to!

ellequick · 09/09/2018 13:23

Love that dress HavingALittleBabyToolshed, I’ve just ordered it too!

namechanged0983 · 09/09/2018 14:12

Me. I have one pair of trousers and one pair of leggings. Can't remember when I last wore either.

Dresses are so easy. Don't have to find matching clothes and you always look great.

I'd carry on!! x

gastropod · 09/09/2018 16:19

@BillywigSting thanks for the tip, I just googled snag tights. Hadn't heard of them.
I usually wear tights in a size up but I still find them uncomfortable!

@ hungryhippie Maybe an underskirt is indeed the answer. I didn't think they still sold them!

ElspethFlashman · 09/09/2018 16:27

Don't you all feel a bit claustrophobic in leggings/tights the whole time? All that elastic digging into your waist the whole year....

I couldn't bear it!

GreenandBlueButterfly · 09/09/2018 16:48

Don't you all feel a bit claustrophobic in leggings/tights the whole time?

Not really. I wear them with bare legs in the summer and with hold ups in the winter.

Meet0nTheIedge · 09/09/2018 16:58

I'd like to wear them more as they do loom nice but they are so impractical. I like maxis in summer but they are a tripping hazard on the stairs, short ones show too much leg when I sit down, I detest tights with every ounce of my being, they don't tend to have pockets and if they do it tends to spoil their line. So I always end up back in jeans as you can put them on and forget about them.

Dillydallyontheway · 09/09/2018 17:58

I hate tights/leggings too. I work from home so only wear tights when I go out socially. I never wear leggings.
I agree the lack of pockets can be annoying but several places online now include pockets in a lot of their dresses. For a line/ full skirts it doesn't affect the look at all.

Tights that don't fit really are horrible, they're always falling down or bunching up or digging in.

But I have a few pairs in different colours that fit perfectly and can basically forget I'm wearing them. Tights that fit are as comfortable as pjs.

If you're wearing lots of dresses they are definitely worth investing in and finding a style that suits your shape.

For example I'm short and fat so new look tights never fit me, but m&s and Asda ones tend to be pretty good

Bejazzled · 09/09/2018 22:34

I wish I could wear dresses as easily as I wear trousers and tops for work every day,
I think I'm the wrong shape, being a 16 apple with a big tummy, I always feel as if the dress is wearing me rather than the other way round.

Holidayshopping · 09/09/2018 23:51

I love a dress with pockets!
