Only wearing dresses?

Curious whether anyone here only wears dresses? I love the feel of dresses and live in them for most of the summer and thinking of continuing this into the colder months. I have some lovely casual dresses I can wear with boots and tights. Obviously this is excluding things like exercising/ gardening/ decorating

Being a fat-tummied apple with boobs - wrap dresses almost never work, they gape at the bust and the belt sits right above my fat tummy emphasising it. Skater dresses don't work, too fitted on the tum then the flare out just exacerbates that.

Boden don't work for me, their waistbands are under my boobs for some reason.

A line skirt parts are fine, it depends what they are attached to above really.

My legs are very 'number 8' shaped, and very strong and chunky, so it's easy for my feet to look tiny and therefore my legs even bigger

Honestly, no-on notices this sort of thing!

I never wear dresses. I feel like Grayson Perry.
I am 6 feet tall and size 14...always feel overdressed and never find them in proportion

sonjadog · 11/09/2018 17:17

I’m an apple shape too. I find sizing up makes skaters dressert fit well.

Kewqueue · 11/09/2018 17:20

I have to wear really heavy support tights for health reasons so I mainly wear dresses.

ChiaraRimini · 11/09/2018 17:22

Yeah I've worn dresses pretty much all the time for the last five years as I developed a bit of a belly and they are more forgiving than anything with a waistband!

TheOnlyPink · 11/09/2018 17:36

I'm a size 22 and I find dresses are the easiest way to feel non-frumpy, and put together. I'm big, but I'm hourglass shaped so it's easy to find dresses that suit. Skater are my favourite, I look so much slimmer. For tights, snag are great and reasonably priced, and the ones from big bloomers company are excellent for bigger sizes.
I'm starting to look for my winter clothes and will be buying mostly dresses! Just ordered a lovely soft brushed cotton one from Dorothy Perkins.

Love dresses - with bare legs and sandals in summer and with tights and boots (ankle or knee length) in winter. Dress, tights and boots is effortlessly smart - no need to worry about what goes with what, no dilemma about tucking in or wearing over the top. I have loads of casual sweater dresses (the dress equivalent of jeans) and smart shifts. I do occasionally wear jeans - for walks in the country for instance - but my go to outfit is invariably a dress.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 11/09/2018 17:42

I only wear dresses. I have a bit of a gut/overhang and find them more forgiving than trousers either with a tent or constantly pulling a top down.

Most of my work dresses can work well paired with converse/sandals and ankle boots.

TraceyBond · 11/09/2018 19:06

I wear dresses for work but tended not to for home. Now I'm on Mat Leave I need to rectify that!

I didn't like myself in dresses until I discovered full slips. They make everything fit better and feel very sexy.

I've just bought this dress for Autumn and winter and love it. I'm definitely an autumnal dress weather...i like tights and boots! www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/clothing/dresses-tunics/fit-flare-dresses/high-deck-pinafore-corduroy-dress_fathom.htm

This thread needs more photos for inspiration

Dillydallyontheway · 11/09/2018 20:34

I love that dress Giveme!

I'm not apple shaped so this is on the basis of reading up, rather than my own experience but these shapes should be good for apple shapes. They're all from Boden as that's where I've been looking for dresses for me today:

doesn't cling

nor does this one

fuller skirt, a line, v neck and mid calf length

Midi dresses for people who want to hide their calves:

#1

#2

For people with larger or smaller calves in case you need boots and haven't heard of them Duo are on the pricey side but last well IME Duo link

Apologies if I've got it wrong on the dresses, I'll try to get it right next time. I'll post photos of my dress choices soon.

Fabricwitch · 11/09/2018 22:41

I own maybe 3 pairs of trousers and do wear them on occasion, but pretty much only wear dresses. Much comfier and more flattering for me as I have very large thighs. I spend a fortune on comfy tights though!

MirandaWest · 11/09/2018 22:42

I mostly wear dresses. Wore shorts an amount when it was warm and occasionally wear jeans but mostly dresses worn either sandals or boots depending on the weather Grin

PlaymobilPirate · 11/09/2018 22:48

I love dresses but only have a couple. I wore a plain nlack shift dress last week at work (I'm usually in jeans and boots) and had lots of compliments...

Has anyone seen / bought anything just above knee length for a short arse size 14/16 with a big tummy and big boobs?

motortroll · 11/09/2018 22:52

I never wear dresses but I just bought a checked shirt dress from next which I'm in love with. I have no shoes to go with it so it's still on the hanger 🙄

SummerintoAutumn · 11/09/2018 22:53

Inspired by this thread I have found 3 dresses that I think I'm going to keep ... haven't worn a dress for years!

What colour tights and boots with a navy dress please?

Itsmeaga1n · 11/09/2018 23:04

stoat I dont think you could be too old for those clothes. I'm 54 and would wear them. I have chunky legs too and am size 16 but wear thick tights or leggings with above knee length dresses all the time, if people have nothing better to worry about than my chunky calves I feel sorry for them.

VanGoghsDog · 11/09/2018 23:05

I like a couple of those dresses Purple. But Boden are always a bit odd on me, I have a few of their dresses but their waists cut into my rib cage. And they are madly expensive so I only buy in the sale, my upper budget for a dress is £40. Prefer more like £30.

I don't understand all the shoe angst. Just wear flat loafers, or brogues, or pumps, or heels, or boots, or trainers, or sandals, or whatever you like. I can't think of a single type of shoe you can't wear with a dress.

pumpkinyael · 11/09/2018 23:07

I occasionally wear dresses but tend to prefer trousers and jackets :)

I'm pretty short so I feel like longer a line skirts make me look even shorter. And maxi skirts make me look like one of these garden gnomes Grin
Pencil skirts restrict movements too much for casual wear.

And short a line skirts are nice but I always hear the words "easy access" when I wear one. So they're reserved for special occasions or comfortable surroundings.

VanGoghsDog · 11/09/2018 23:07

Summer - I almost never wear navy as it causes problems with tights and shoes. I can't wear black with navy.

In summer I'd wear nude tights and white or brown/burgundy shoes.

In winter.....I do have some mushroom brown knee high boots, it would have to be those but that's why I avoid navy.

pumpkinyael · 11/09/2018 23:10

I can't think of a single type of shoe you can't wear with a dress

Flat ankle boots. I look short, and my legs (they're not even thick!) look stumpy...

VanGoghsDog · 11/09/2018 23:13

I'd only wear flat ankle boots under trousers. I said shoe though.....

pumpkinyael · 11/09/2018 23:15

Aren't boots shoes? Blush

Yes, I only wear them with trousers...Smile
