Apparently, Andrew is the Queen's favourite son. But unlike Charles and Anne and even Edward, I don't recall Andrew doing much work in the Family Business.

I can't recall which York princess (or maybe both?) has got a lot of negative press for seemingly being constantly on holiday. Both women could have had a more positive press attention by using their royalness to promote charities, but there seems little evidence of that, except for very recently.

Clionba · 02/08/2018 22:53

That's why the Queen made Andrew Colonel in Chief of the Grenadier Guards following Philip's retirement. It means he'll always have a prominent role in the Trooping of the Colour. The daughters will be there too. I think it was Beatrice that managed to go on holiday about 20 times in one year (maybe more...)!

Quantumblue · 02/08/2018 23:00

The York girls should have followed Princess Anne's model. Hard work for charity, lack of celebrity glitz/ self promotion and firmly getting on with their own lives.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/08/2018 23:15

Edward is quite underrated. He and Sophie carry out several engagements but receive very little press coverage. I like that they just get on with things and keep their private life private.

Clionba - I recall a Daily Mail piece about Andrew having to re-learn how to ride a horse. There were pictures where he didn't look at all comfortable.

Queen - yes, Edward and Sophie don't get the press attention they deserve for their public engagements. Presumably that's because there's not much for the gossip columnists to talk about.

Quantum - I have noticed that in recent times, when Princess Anne wears military (navy?) uniform, she wears trousers rather than a skirt. Quite probably against palace protocol, but I doubt she cares much about that.

I don’t know them, but I believe theire are large groups of people whose families are wealthy and who do —anything— much. I follow Chelsey Davy on Istagram. If you google her, the bio says ‘Businesswoman’. Her Istagram account is that of a traveler. Every other week she is on a plane on her way to another exotic holiday destination. She breaks her holidays to atten society weddings. She hangs around with big groups of seemingly similar thirty somethings, lots of laughing, sunbathing, sailing, partying. It really is another world and I can imagine how hard it would be to give that up to don frock coats and shake hands with dozens of people as well as have to give up your freedom. Yet she is apparently a ‘businesswoman’ and I’m certain her friends who accompany her on her never ending holiday are also ‘business people’.

There are probably thousands of people like that living in the UK. Wasn’t there even somebody on Love Island this year who didn’t work and just hung around in Chelsea because his grandparents were wealthy? The York sisters probably know them and I imagine they think it is very unfair that they get unwanted public attention and criticism when they are just doing what everyone in their ‘set’ is doing.

We went to Windsor Castle and DH was riveted looking through a window. I finally dragged him away and he said "That was Prince Andrew playing golf. His swing is awful."

All that money, and still no talent.

evilharpy · 03/08/2018 06:58

I read somewhere that Chelsy Davy is now a jewellery designer. I'd never heard of her but googled it and she does have a website. It's not even on the first page of google results.

Well, this is a vanity project!

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/08/2018 08:43

Wasn't Chelsy a lawyer originally?

OP posts:
evilharpy · 03/08/2018 08:53

She has a law degree and started a training contract but didn't complete it.

NewUserNameTime · 03/08/2018 08:55

I remember the announcement of her jewellery business. Given the lack of PR I agree it's a vanity project

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/08/2018 10:41

Her father is immensely rich and matey with Mugabe isn't he? Explains how she can afford to do vanity projects!

Just spotted this throwback shot on Instagram of Beatrice Borromeo's wedding dresses. All utterly gorgeous.

Why did she need 3?

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/08/2018 16:41

She had 4 actually! Think they had 2 ceremonies - civil and religious - and then 2 receptions. The dresses were all beautiful.

Paradyning · 03/08/2018 18:18

She is stunning. Definitely the best dressed of the Monegasque.

Tortycat · 03/08/2018 21:51

Eugenie is very attractive but her shoes in the DM article (first picture) are horrendous! Makes me think of the child catcher in chitty chitty bang bang.

Clionba · 04/08/2018 09:44

They are Chanel! All the stuff the two York women were dressed up in is proper high end designer - Chanel, Dolce etc.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/08/2018 10:00

I'm guessing those outfits were all provided by the designers for the photo shoot and aren't their actual clothes.

Eugenie is very fond of a high neck but let's hope she goes for something a bit lower for her wedding dress. It's a far more flattering look for her.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/08/2018 10:05

@Paradyning Yes Beatrice is the most chic. Charlotte favours the more avant-garde and Tatiana has a hippy/boho-luxe thing going on - both are looks that only the very rich can get away with!

The York sisters look fab in this month's Vogue. They can look good when they're not constrained by royal stuffyness.

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/08/2018 13:20

I scanned through their interview in Vogue today. That quote about being a princess in the age of Instagram does not appear, although they do talk about how it can be tricky to balance a public and private life.

I think Meghan looks nice. Lovely outfit and better than that floral monstrosity she wore to the Spencer wedding.
