She is lucky in that she is so used to bring in the public eye, she is well used to adopting the stance and walk that limits the number of unflattering and awkward poses. I think she is incredibly pretty. Harry must be thanking every star in the sky she was interested in him.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 27/07/2018 13:24

There are lots of pretty girls out there. What is more important is that she is intelligent and they have chemistry. I think Harry has a fantastic personality and let’s face it, he is a millionaire Prince. Looks wise, he is punching above his weight. 10 years ago she was a hustling actress and he was a little boy lost. They’ve both matured and it looks like a good and equal match.

Watchingtheworldgoby · 27/07/2018 14:26

I don’t mean to come across as goady but I have read many times (probably on MN) that he is not all that bright so are they really equally intelligent? She comes across as bright but I really have no idea. I admire that she had a successful career but to be fair that was probably down more to her looks. They seem happy and any happy couple makes me smile and wish them well.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 27/07/2018 14:43

Not necessarily equally intelligent. I don’t think he is bookish, but he has Diana’s emotional intelligence. They are a good match based on their different attributes

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/07/2018 15:10

I don't think he's an intellectual by any stretch, but agree that he's got his mothers emotional intelligence and empathy and he certainly comes across as genuinely caring for the causes he champions. He also appears more comfortable in the public eye than his brother, which must help.

I don’t think Meghan was really wealthy before her marriage, she was a jobbing actress, albeit with a lifestyle blog, in a Canadian series. I don’t think Suits is big in America. I certainly don’t think she could afford the sort of clothes she is now wearing.

SenecaFalls · 27/07/2018 15:43

I don't know what Meghan made while working on suits, but her character was central to the storyline from the beginning.

Also the series is a US one, not Canadian. It is specifically produced for the USA Network, a cable network based in the US. It is filmed in Toronto, which is a fairly common location choice these days for films set in New York City.

ajandjjmum · 27/07/2018 15:46

Pre-Suits I think you're right, but she (apparently) made several million dollars from her time on that series.

Personally I would be keeping it invested, rather than spending it on clothes, but hey ho....her money, her choice.

Clionba · 27/07/2018 15:57

I have read that the Prince of Wales has given Meghan a generous clothing budget. From the Duchy of Cornwall.

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/07/2018 16:09

Suits is a pretty successful show and she was on it for 7 years. I'm pretty sure she would've made more than a decent living from it.

I looked this up (saddo) and she was estimated to be worth about £3.5 million pre-marriage. There was an Elle article from the start of July (so pre-Dublin trip and the polo the other day) which said her wardrobe to date was valued at £750,000- not including bags, jewellery and other accessories, and it's been paid for by the Duchy. If it wasn't she'd be nuts to be spending 20% of her net worth on bloody frocks!

I know she's now royalty and has to maintain a "look" but really, it's all a bit much. You expect big money on outfits for major events (weddings, state dinners, etc) but she could pare it back on occasion. We're not expecting her to rock up to stuff most of the time in New Look gear, but more higher-end high street brands would be a good idea.

You just have to look at the Yorks as a bit of a cautionary tale- people only love the glamour for so long, but as the novelty wears off and you get shoved to the sidelines to make room for the immediate heirs (George, Charlotte, Louis) people will be much less forgiving of seemingly lavish expenditure, even if it's paid for out of private funds.

MM certainly didn’t wear exclusively couture before becoming a duchess though.

Grace Kelly wore beautiful clothes before she met Prince Rainier. MM’s wardrobe was more hip and she is reinventing her style now she is a Duchess.

Watchingtheworldgoby · 27/07/2018 18:59

Tbf she has A LOT more time on her hands now than she had before to shop and reinvent her style a hundred times over.

Clionba · 27/07/2018 19:07

None of the royal family are going to be seen for a while now. William and Kate are in Mustique. Harry and Meghan are away as well.

Paradyning · 27/07/2018 19:34

Ooo how do you know this clionba?

Clionba · 27/07/2018 19:37

Ahhh I have my sources! Wink

Paradyning · 27/07/2018 19:37

Spilllll

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/07/2018 19:44

Don't they always spend a few weeks in Mustique with Kate's family every August?

It’s been splashed all over the royal news that the Cambridge’s have gone to their private island. Lol

Clionba · 27/07/2018 19:48

They do, Queen. The Middketons host the whole family there every year. I've got serious holiday envy!!

lightonthewater · 27/07/2018 19:54

When do we think Meghan will be up the duff then?

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/07/2018 19:55

I knew Ma and Pa Middleton were rich but I didn't realise they were 'own your own private island' rich!

God knows how a party company manages to make that much money

QueenOfTheAndals · 27/07/2018 19:57

And don't forget brother James and his printed marshmallows!

I think it's just Carole who is from a humble/working class background. Michael's family is fairly posh.
